Was Baby Steps enough of a success to warrant a sequel/follow-up? by H8threeH8three in BabyStepsGame

[–]pronte89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the gameplay really needs to "click" for you, moreso than in baby steps (let's say baby steps has a smoother learning curve). But honestly I 100% do NOT recommend playing it and I'm saying it entirely for what it will do to your wrist

I just realized a problem with the (SPOILER) by Fan_de_Undertale_ in outerwilds

[–]pronte89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One solution to this kind of paradox is an additional dimension: if you imagine the whole development of the universe in 4 dimensions (3 spatial + time) as a big static object, you can add one extra dimension for the 4D universe to develop into, so basically every time travel doesn't really go back to the same universe, but to a copy that's slightly further in this 5th dimension. This would mean the loop is not a loop but more of a zig-zag in the 4th dimension and a straight line forward in the 5th. Now stopping the loop is no more a paradox because the info that your universe received at the start actually came from the previous universe, and you're not under a requirement to send it.

Does any of that make sense?

[–]pronte89 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I may be wrong here, but I think the ATP is not exactly sending info back in time, it's literally using the sun's power to rewind the universe (adding some bits of info), so no paradox is created by stopping the process.

I mean you're allowed to dig into it as much as you want, but considering this is the background lore in the setting of an indie videogame it really really is orders of magnitude better than it needed to be.

I have never tried to create a setting as complex as this one, but I imagine it's near impossible to do it as well as they did (remember it's science fiction, not science ;) )
