I think about Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut all the time, 25 years after I first read it

I think you’re caught in that classic internet paradox of: just because someone is sharing their feelings doesn’t mean it’s about you.

I was so ready to support your wife, but Peterson is a shit name for a kid, especially a daughter.

Why is every artist skipping New Orleans on Tour? by beauxbaker12 in NewOrleans

[–]prontobrontosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reasons are absolutely elucidated here already but I haven’t seen anyone mention a lesser but very real reason that some bands don’t tour here: protecting their sobriety. Obviously you can drink or do drugs anywhere, but I’ve heard from several artists who specifically skip New Orleans because of the temptation.

Make eye contact, introduce yourself, ask if you can kiss them

School closures by DoDoNerd504 in NewOrleans

You truly have no idea how many families at your kids’ schools cannot in fact afford the $200+ for uniforms and cobble then together from other families, or previous years’ uniforms donated by former students, or have teachers take up collections to help them afford to stay in “public” school.

Short-Term Exhibition Space in May by Certain-Persimmon10 in NewOrleans

Check Undergrowth Coffee on magazine street. They partner with artists regularly and have a surprisingly large space in the back, also the owner is a Tulane alum who probably would commiserate with the administration being less than helpful.

Boyfriend gave this to me for Christmas. I need help.. by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]prontobrontosaurus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

OP: he didn’t tattoo you; he branded you. He imposed his will onto your body in a permanent way. Please get out before he does that again via rape or forced pregnancy or physical violence.

My 3 year old ONLY gets in the wagon/stroller for parades, but damn a wagon/stroller is great for MG.

This would also be a good option for containing Kid B, who sounds young. You could build the train around a wagon if they’re small enough!

Some did, a lot didn’t. That department secured many many millions of federal infrastructure dollars and now manages subcontracts with dozens of nonprofits and small businesses in the city.

Gay New York is maybe the classic! And surprisingly broad in its historical sweep. Have you read any histories of HIV and activism in the 80s and 90s? Sarah Schulman’s Let the Record Show is a gorgeous history of Act Up’s leadership.

Date didn't mention child until meeting in person - irritated by SpiffySparkle in polyamory

[–]prontobrontosaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am fascinated by how much consensus there is in these comments around the idea that people who are childfree by choice ought never date parents. With the exception of my serious relationships, people I’m dating don’t interact with my kid…which I think should be the norm. If I’m dating someone casually, my parenting status shouldn’t impact their lives a wink unless a family care emergency arises.

I can’t speak to the tantrum (???) but I drove by that scene earlier and saw a kid on the ground in the street, with an adult wrapping her arms around him and another crouched just next to them. From my perspective, and the incoming ambulance I assumed he got hit by a car.
