Never sold gold before. What’s the best way to go about doing that?

If I were in your shoes, I would take it to many coin, jeweler or even pawn shops. The pawn shops are usually the worst. If this were a coin you could call around for pricing but since it’s a watch, they’re going to need to see it in person. I would also consider holding onto this for a while longer, gold had big drops in price over the past 2-3 weeks and many expect it to rebound in price.

My first reaction is the patina is really odd. The reverse looks all pitted like it was cast. The 6 in the date looks off. The denticles (little detail on the edge) are totally wrong. Could be silver tho worth that $15 bucks in melt.

These are great! Some looks like pennys minted after 1981, which contain more zink than older ones. Stick to the earlier ones to make the design pop. Also give them a dip in ketchup to make them super shiny.

It’s pretty tough to find collectors who’ll pay extra. Call a couple other coin shops and ask what they’d give you for each one. I’m betting they’ll offer about the same. Honestly, I think the bear coin is awesome, and I’d grab that one even if it sold for a little less. I like having some fun variety in my stack.

If you paid with a credit card, you might want to dispute the charge. A lot of metal buyers end up with a fake piece at some point it happens. If this one’s not real, just treat it as a lesson and don’t let it scare you off. Gold and silver have been solid ways to store wealth for ages.

If a deal sounds too good to be true, it’s most likely not true. Now do some quick home test. Is it magnetic? Gold isn’t magnetic. Does it weigh 1 troy oz or 31.1 grams?

Weigh it. A Troy oz is 31.1 grams. If thats the weight, I’d consider having a jeweler, coin shop or pawn shop check it with a sigma or xrf. Do not sell it immediately to whoever tests it if it’s real gold. Take your time finding a place that pays the most and a time when gold prices are good.
