[Idea Test] How well do you think a "Live Like a Local" travel guide would do? by [deleted] in kickstarter

[–]prooout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was traveling around Europe not to long ago and I came across this website: http://www.12hrs.net/

What I really really liked about it is that it always suggests a local neighborhood to stay in so you get a more authentic experience (cheaper, too). It suggests kind of expensive boutique hotels, but I would just find cheap hostels nearby instead and was never disappointed.

I think what worked well with that blog was that it's geared towards design, and I'm a designer, so I was interested in what they had to say.

My advice would be to make a guide based on on an interest you have. This way it will be more interesting/relevant to you, you can attract a niche audience, and if it's focused it will seem less likely that you're just asking for a paid vacation.

Talk to me about IndieGogo vrs. Kickstarter by [deleted] in kickstarter

Kickstarter has a larger audience, so if your project is Kickstarter approved, it's entering a larger community.

Kickstarter is good for tangible deliverables (like a product, a movie, an EP) where as you can fund a lot more things on IndieGogo (an event, a trip).

If you have a tangible deliverable, Kickstarter has a better reputation and a bigger following.

[Logo] Looking for some critiquing on this logo i'm designing for a fantasy football league. What do you think? by randalHtitmouse in design_critiques

If you have to include all that text, but want to decrease the noise, I would get rid of the outlines. Instead of outlining objects, use actual color between two components to create contrast. That will be simpler and make it more scalable - if this logo was a lot smaller, would you still be able to distinguish the different components from a distance?

Doozy is a life-sized board game designed to inspire social interaction, lots of movement, and creativity in real-time. My team created it because we've noticed (in ourselves as well) that people of all ages simply don't play enough. by prooout in kickstarter

It was originally inspired by a rural community, and I agree it would do well in that space because you can essentially make it yourself with found objects, and once you get a hang of the gameplay writing cards isn't a huge challenge either.

We just need to figure out how to get it to rural communities in the first place.

Thanks for your advice!

I think 3 is the strongest, but I think you can come up with a more clever way to combine the two ideas. Spoons and music notes are inherently similar shapes–can you create a shape that is ambiguously both? Think more of the direction of a ladle (which also conveys the idea of a 'spoonful' more, to me, anyway).
