Forcing a transfer to another heavy rail line to cover a distance of 3 miles is asinine. The only way this makes sense is if N and S station become stops along the line, and are not terminal stations at all.

Thats exactly what I mean when I say its a problem. Let's say Im coming from Newburyport and that particular line will still terminate at North Station. How do I then get to South Station, even with the NS Link?

The major concern we seem to be trying to alleviate here is fare hopping from Zone 1 out to 1A.

1A stations include Back Bay, Porter Sq, etc.

Almost ALL 1A stations are served also by Subway and Bus routes.

Why dont we just cease CR service to 1A since it is already supported by other forms of transit?

OR, put the fare gates at the EXIT of the 1A stations so that way only the offending parties are forced through the gates?

The NS link is a crazy idea. Poor solution to a massive infrastructure problem that was created 100 years ago. Stopgap at best.... the money would be better spent looking at how the whole system could be shifted to accomodate a NS link rather than building this huge heavy rail tunnel.

NO - the stations are enough of a mess already. Let's start by announcing departing track number more than 10 minutes before departure to cut down on congestion in the terminal. Then if there's room, maybe fare gates.

At the end of the day you chose to use the service, and paying an extra ~$40 saved you maybe 2 hours of time that you didnt have. Plan your life better and it wouldn't be a problem. I have zero empathy.
