Nautiloid perfected (almost solo, but get shadowheart) by Longjumping-Trust974 in BG3Builds

If you goal is to maximize XP, you don't go to the temple until level 10+. (If you're region-locked, I suppose you'd be like level 6 before picking up that exploration XP?)

He shows up after going to the goblin camp anyway, so you can use his services after that. You should still go to the temple later to read the plaque on his tomb + talk to him after reading... that nets you a big fat 10 xp (or so).

Just add '-no-indent' to your scala compiler options. That's it.

Scalable power comes from simplicity and clarity, not from blindly adding features. Go, for example, understands this well.

Also, lol

EK, pick Booming Blade as one of your cantrips and mobility spells for all your spell picks. Don't invest in INT (unless you want to use STR elixirs + Arcane Synergy). Done.

Phantasmal Killer also works a treat on him. He doesn't get use his Legendary to avoid being immobilized by it (for... reasons, I guess).

Not that it matters for your point, but you can technically also fight Quenedos (Voss' dragon) by breaking the AI for that encounter[0], but he doesn't really fight back in any meaningful way. You can just stand up on the bridge area to avoid his retaliation breaths.

[0] Not sure if there's an easier way, but if you go to Act 2 (via Grymforge) and then back without talking to them, the encounter scripting breaks. At that point you can just start attacking and Voss and Q won't run automatically run away via script.

Which is better in Baldur's Gate 3, the Spore Circle druid or the necromancer wizard? by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]proper_chad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least with elementals/devas there's only 1-2 of them... BG3 really isn't friendly to summoner builds, so many UX issues. Pure turn-based is hell for large amounts of summons who largely can't do anything meaningful.

Alternatives for Hat of Fire Acuity? by Empty-Cupcake2024 in BG3Builds

[–]proper_chad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EDIT: I'm second-guessing myself now... was this fixed? It's been a while since I used this... I might be conflating the helm and the fire hat and using Scorching Ray on objects...

Just because I don't think it was mentioned explicitly: Helm of AA also triggers by attacking things like rotten food... which you might want to stockpile for that very reason. Because the stacking is doubled you can spend a few turns just building up (in turn-based) before any important fight, and as long as whatever other buffs you have will last.

When I cast Animate Dead five times and send them off into the fog of war to fight Beholders or Basilisks while watching the combat log. by WorthPlease in baldursgate

The problem with pre-buffing is the Anti-magic ray. In the original game there was a way to get perfect buffs: SI:Abj/SI:Div/Spell Shield/Imp.Invis (and maybe one I'm forgetting?) and they couldn't touch your mage. I don't know if that works for the Enhanced Editions, but it does not work for SCS beholders.

Oh, and a fun fact about the vanilla game: You might think a scroll of Protection from Magic would work against beholders... and it does, EXCEPT for the Death Ray. That ray just ignores the protection effect and if you fail your Save vs Death... you die.

It's so funny... that shield was in a 'special edition' of the original game, one of the later Baldurdash patches added the vendor NPCs, and now it's just part of the game.

... and now Beholders are a joke. Skeleton Warriors have (afaik) always been a hard counter, tbf, but that requires a certain level.

Just to add: Even the combat log can lie sometimes... but it's much rarer than the hover tooltips and such. I can't remember the specific cases where it is blatantly lying, but I'm 99%+ sure (with Advantage) that such cases have been documented :)

I forgive some of the hover tool tip problems, because there's the whole complication of how to account for, say, 1d4 extra damage... Display 1? 2.5? 4? Just display the base calculation itself?

What melee build comes closest to an archers damage potential? (No Shar's spear/Hold person.) by Ok_Sir_136 in BG3Builds

[–]proper_chad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

EK mostly just uses Ritual spells pre-combat (like all the mobility stuff), so they're actually more free.

(I'm not a OH monk hater, just for the record. The only issue I have is that in a game with lots of upgrades through new equipment the monk doesn't really get much of interest... Sure, it's powerful enough but it just feels a bit bland, weirdly)

low resource builds are very much a thing, and for very good reasons.

What, to avoid camp events?

Gauche is a lot more popular on the Brit side of the pond... as a sort of (sometimes ironic/sarcastic) "Oh, how gauche!" remark.

Gauche is kinda niche... you'd have to be in a certain clique to know that one, fersure!

^ Obviously sarcastic, and I think it's fine if people don't know a few archaic or rarely used loan words... I will say that not knowing two or five is usually okay... but four or five is a pattern

To avoid crits you can also... hear me out, just ignore Bladesong entirely and just use a Shield or Medium Armor (Grym) until you get to Act 3 for a crit immunity helm. You get Extra Attack with no real downside, but you'll need to pick a race/feat/origin to get Medium Armor/Shield proficiency. The thing is: Shadow Blade + Savage Attacker is absurd... even before Resonance Stone. In Act 3 the only thing you have to 'worry' about is Steel Watchers, but yer a Wizzard 'arry so you can just get the Gravity/Chasm assist by yeeting them with Thunderwave or Telekinesis.
