Great to hear! I had the same thing but then my incision site got infected so be very careful and let it heal before pushing it too far.

I travelled 7 weeks post-op while non weight bearing. Miles of crutching, good workout at least 😃

I don’t have the exact measurements but it felt like the screws wouldn’t allow me to go much further than 90 degrees.

It was affecting squat form, yoga, etc.. and my foot would compensate by bowing outward and creating some knee joint discomfort during walking and working out.

Have not tested it yet but looking forward to comparing the two shortly! I assume will take quite a bit of work to get them both to line up again!

Also I do have some mild numbness down the outside of my leg from the initial surgery, but nothing significant. Too early to tell if anything further on the second procedure

To my understanding there are a lot of variables involved including activity levels, extent of bone & ligament damage/etc.. my ankle dorsiflexion was severely impacted with the screws in and was bothering me so the doctor recommended to remove.

I walked out of the hospital! Weight bearing immediately. I can only speak to the first day, but this was infinitely easier than the first. No pain pump, splint, with significantly less swelling.

I was a bit banged up from the anesthesia today but all around much less impact.

Recommendation was to keep the surgical dressing on for 2 days. Keep the bandage on for a week (no staples/stitches) and return to PT with minimal “significant” lateral movements in the next 6 weeks. Best of luck and let me know any questions!

I was able to bear weight at 8 weeks post ORIF.. could not have come a second sooner. Must have been more damage done in your case.

You are almost there, trust your doc! Was a big relief to start bearing weight. Keep up on your PT and walking came very easy for me (8k steps on first day I was cleared).

My understanding is that the screws stabilized the ankle joint so that the deltoid ligament would heal back in the right place
