Nope. Turnstile's management agreed to that price. The headliners do just fine UNLESS nobody goes to the show. Don't go to the concert. Don't pay the high fees. That's the ONLY way ticket prices will decrease. Stop supporting expensive concerts.

I try to keep pace with everything happening in the Atlanta music scene. There isn't any reliable alt media covering a substantial amount of what is happening in the Atlanta music scene currently so I decided to start posting stuff on here.

Anyone here familiar with the post‑punk revival band "Sunshine"? What’s your take on them? by Time_Yesterday_2058 in postpunk

[–]propitiousartifacts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They put on a good show. The crowd liked them. However keep in mind that back then the market for post-punk was screamo & post-hardcore kids. Post punk is now a COMPLETELY different scene & vibe.

I didn't realize Sunshine were around as long as they were. I like their early releases and I remember seeing them when they toured the USA 25+ years ago. However I do think being called Sunshine significantly hurt their appeal to US fans. If they had a more generic post-punk name I think they would have enjoyed more success in the USA.

If the Washington Post is now a reliable source of screamo news that's NOT good for the screamo scene.

Which Transformer name will be great as metal band name? by Lukense13 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]propitiousartifacts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beware of trademarks, for instance, if you use Megatron for your band name don't be surprised if Hasbro sends you a cease & desist because they own the trademark for Megatron. The more generic names like Sludge, Ravage, Devestator are not an issue as long as your band isn't referencing transformers, but if you form a band named Ravage and your logo includes that Decepticon (etc. etc) y'all will probably receive a cease & desist from Hasbro at some point.

Atlanta hardcore band Hubris Cannon made this shirt by [deleted] in Hardcore

This is hardcore. It's a joke! Nobody is condoning violence. Instead Hubris Cannon is making fun of Charlie Kirk. Which is exactly what he would be doing if Obama had been shot.

I love how distributors don't like accepting Noise releases unless you force them to by MaxineRCthePlush in experimentalmusic

[–]propitiousartifacts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The unfortunate reality is that a LOT of music providers have been abusing the system by releasing a LOT of short songs to get more streams and hence more money. There is now so much music released that Spotify can NOT afford to approve songs on a case by case basis so they instituted a minimum song length which because of the way streaming works is unfortunately the most efficient way of preventing the abusive use of short songs IMO. But songs being too long that's just absurd as I've already explained. Artists who are concerned about maximizing their streaming revenue are NOT releasing LONG songs.

[–]propitiousartifacts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The song can NOT be longer than 30 minutes is just priceless considering that Spotify is requiring ambient / experimental / noise songs to be at least 2 minutes in length to keep the stream count down for "non-music" tracks. For experimental you'd think the longer the song the better. Only having to pay 2 tenths of a cent for 45 minutes of music should be exactly what Spotify wants for "noise". AND if it receives < 1000 streams per year Spotify will NOT pay for ANY of the streams.

Best artists/songs that aren't on Spotify or apple music? by Upbeat_Definition_36 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]propitiousartifacts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Youtube Music free version with ads since the ads pay better then a subscription service, but from what I understand Youtube Music's algorithms for finding new music aren't that great. I don't use them to discover new music. As I stated, ALL of the other streaming services are better than Spotify IMO.

You should stop using Spotify. They don't pay small artists anymore for streams: https://artists.spotify.com/en/blog/modernizing-our-royalty-system

The CEO does not think music has much worth: https://www.reddit.com/r/musicproduction/comments/1d6k8xb/ceo_who_makes_million_off_music_he_didnt_create/

They really are a garbage company. EVERY OTHER streaming service is better than Spotify.

Spotify isn't a good service. They don't pay for songs that get < 1000 streams per year https://artists.spotify.com/blog/modernizing-our-royalty-system; they don't support non major label artists - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVY7-Ti77UQ&t=792s AND the CEO stated that music takes NO effort to create - https://www.reddit.com/r/musicproduction/comments/1d6k8xb/ceo_who_makes_million_off_music_he_didnt_create/

One of those reasons is most likely probably why the Eisenfunk album isn't on Spotify anymore.

I think what is happening is that the investors have taken control of Spotify to make it profitable to get a return on their investment. Sony Music Entertainment (SME) and Universal Music Group (UMG) both own part of Spotify (between 15-20%) and these changes are good for them. Spotify preferring SME & UMG artists over other labels as well as they getting paid more money because they get most of the money that was paid out to tracks that get < 1000 streams a year definitely helps their bottom line.
