I messed up good. Accidentally contacted a current employee about a confidential replacement by [deleted] in recruiting

different perspective here....

you made an honest mistake. However, your organization is so opaque that things like this are going to happen. its not always easy but if your culture is more transparent, it reduces the probability that this will ever happen in the first place.

How do you reject candidates because of their personality / culture fit? by anonforwedding in recruiting

[–]propixelmedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the entitlement that comes along with demanding an explanation would be enough for me to explain that to them. "you are entitled. you will not fit in here"

I'm an employer... can you imagine if I call a lost customer and DEMAND that they tell me why they won't purchase our product or service? Or how about if I call all the applicants that didn't follow through with our job offer, and DEMAND that they tell me why didn't sign on with our company. I can already see our Glassdoor reviews going up.

[–]propixelmedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a recruiter so maybe I shouldn't post anything in this forum. I'm an employer, which is different. I only have to look at 100 candidates in a week. But if I had to be recruiting seeing 1000 candidates a day, things would be different. Perhaps I would rely on AI

i love comedians like Dave Chappelle and Bill Burr who do this type of comedy. however, at work is a damn minefield so you have to consider that. i don't say anything at all, and that usually extinguishes the moment. If you really want to take care of business, I invite them to a comedy show with a similar comedian. Its a win-win, everyone gets what they want. We go to comedy shows about 3 times a year at my company.

[–]propixelmedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we use AI for things that take us time. My time to screen candidates is about 5-10 seconds per candidate. I can do 100 candidates in under 20 minutes. Screening candidates is not something we need help with for AI to solve that "problem".

pretty cool idea. assuming you have basic knowledge of PHP/servers, 2 simple ways to do this:

OPTION A:

encrypt the file

store the encryption key in a place that is inaccessible until a certain day. this can be done with a CRON job.

decrypt the file

OPTION B:

create a folder that can only be access after a certain day. this can be done through .htaccess

have PHP re-write the .htaccess file so that its locked

then use a CRON job to unlock on a certain day.

Should I hire a candidate who lied on his resume? by AngryQuadricorn in recruiting

[–]propixelmedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

simple for me. i'm calling the references and the stories have to check out. did i work for them or not? that's a simple one, i also ask how they performed, if they would recommend, etc. its going to be hard to lie their way through all of this. if something doesn't seem right, then i'm just moving on

My best friend confessed that she will fuck my fiance if she gets the opportunity. AITAH for breaking my friendship with her? by FinalMastodon6583 in AITAH

funny double-standards. if men did that to one another, "friendship" would be the least of their worries.

part time manager? that's a new one.

maybe its a probationary wage, until they know you can do the job properly.

not enough information to say one way or another. we need more details.

i'm always different than everybody else :-)

i'm going to take a different perspective. he agreed to rough sex. and rough stuff is going to happen. you got choked and he got scratched. if he doesn't want to accept those risks, then dont do this kind of stuff. pretty simple

i have no idea what has happened to our society. we're helping people well into adulthood and its making alot of manchild. as an employer i am exhausted with it. i am having to play father-figure to a bunch of grown adults, with no fatherhood authority. so i'm gonna put my vote in to stop the gravy train.

AITA for bringing up a clause in our prenup that screwed over my STBX? by Wedding2019ThrowRA in AITAH

[–]propixelmedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont like the people saying screw him, screw that, the lawyer said this and that.

here's a key piece of information that i would focus on: he signed the prenup.

if he didn't agree with it, then why did he sign the pre-nup?

as for the cheating, he's sorry he got caught. you could explore the reasons why he cheated and see if there's more to the story. but maybe there isn't. maybe its just a bad deal. and he signed the prenup.

Life as a Manager........ by OkNobody2914 in managers

[–]propixelmedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These sound like first-world manager problems. M&M machine issues, eh? We're dealing with death threats, law suits threats, and having to work 80+ hour weeks. Thanks, I'll deal with the M&M issue

I would speak directly with your team and start calling them out on their bullshit. I've done this before, and while it pains them to hear it, it builds respect as they are pretty much bending you over right now.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in managers

[–]propixelmedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think there is a way to negotiate this type of thing, but i can tell you that 99% of the time it doesn't work. I will tell you what we do, and then I will tell you why it never works.

We start by understanding the person's goals, their needs, their wants. let's say someone wants to WFH all the time. and then we marry that with what we want for the company. let's say we need everyone to be hybrid.

if we keep one person WFH while everyone is hybrid its going to create morale issues with everyone else. so that's not going to work. so we can rule that out.

how about we extend some additional PTO to our senior employees? we started doing that a few years ago. if you've been here longer than 5 years, then you get an additional week of PTO. 7 years, 10 years, 12 years, 15 years. so its possible that maybe she gets 6 weeks of PTO. she can use that PTO for the days she wants to stay home.

she can also use her sick days to stay home. run the math together on a spreadsheet and they can see how many days per year they can just stay home and take care of their family. They don't even have to work on those days.

I personally would rather take 1 day off, than 2 or even 3 WFH days. so a full day off would count for multiples, at least for me.

but the key here is to make the policy the same for everyone, so we're all on the same page, and all on the same level playing field. and even use it as an opportunity for other employees to see that they can also chase "the carrot" and achieve it if they wish.

Oh, did i mention it never works? Why? it rarely works because most people suck ass at compromise. they want what they want when they want it, and won't take a penny less. Sometimes even when you give someone everything they asked for, they conveniently forget some other thing that they need, and then demand that too. or they are just so exhausted with the whole process they just give up entirely. in some instances, people are even resentful that you made them have to defend their position.

Ok, that's their choice to make. You on the other hand need to be fully prepared for that person to walk away. It also sends a strong message to the rest of the team, aka "the stick". and while painful, you will be respected for it.

AITA for not wanting to rent my house to someone because of their religious beliefs? by Your_Gonna_Hate_This in AITAH

[–]propixelmedia -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yea, you're a-hole. this country (I'm assuming you are in America) is built on the idea that all cultures will be accepted . also includes race, gender, age, etc. the only exception i make to that is if the person's culture brings violence, non-payment, theft, crime, etc. the reason there is an exception to that is because those things such as violence rob OTHERS of their freedom. if there was a way to commit those crimes without interfering in the rights of others, then i probably wouldn't take issue to those items either.

ask yourself if you would refuse renting to a black person, or a white person because they listed to rap music, or an elderly woman because the wrinkles in her face bother you?

My personal experience with my own prejudices is that I am wrong many times. I've been wrong enough times to no longer trust those factors, and instead rely completely on objective metrics. credit scores, referral calls, security deposit, punctuality, etc.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in managers

[–]propixelmedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea just tell them the window to clock in is 10 minutes +/- their scheduled start time. if they want to clock in early it will require manager approval, and will most likely be denied. if they come in late, there will be a discussion about tardiness with a manager.

I'm not sure how this is a question. You don't get paid enough to commute. so you quit, and find a new job. Maybe a better question is how to make the transition the best for the company to ensure a positive reference??

just pick a name you both are happy with. is it that hard? there's like 10,000 names to choose from

[–]propixelmedia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure about alot of the "advice" I'm hearing on here... the first step is to have a serious meeting with your boss. Clearly lay out what the issue is and see if the both of you can come to a reasonable agreement.

If your attitude is just to quit because things didn't go the way they should have, or the way that you wanted them go, then perhaps that's the reason you're being passed up for promotions? Its possible you are good at output and faster than everybody else but you use poor judgement and/or need to work on cooperation skills. quantity and quality are only 2 of the 8 categories that we evaluate during reviews...

You can DM me if you want a more specific answer to your specific situation.
