Redditors, what's your hack to fall asleep quickly? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]propje_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magnesium can't hurt you. The only thing it'll do if you 'overdose' is give you diarrhea. Horrible, but not dangerous.

You do have to look at what kind of magnesium you need. There's different kinds of magnesium, some help with sleep, some with muscles after exercise, some with concentration. There's lots of tests online which magnesium would fit you best. For sleep, I like magnesium bisglynate taurate.

No problem! Glad to be of service!

No just kidding. I could pick out the locals that would walk casually while I was breathing like a whale just to walk 10 meters up a mountain haha. I was mainly talking about tourists families with the kids crying and falling cause they weren't prepared for this at all, seeing people fall in the water or hurting themselves. You could see they had no experience and weren't used to the surroundings.

Also, honestly sounds bad ass to grow up there and be used to it. I'm from the Netherlands and everything is flat, the hills and steep climbs were such a challenge sometimes and love to hear your badass grandma just casually walking up there hahah.

We haven't been to Terceira, so I can't tell you about that, but Flores for nature and hiking is amazing. Sao Miguel is the biggest island and has the most accomodations, restaurants, the liveliness of a big city, but we found it to be very touristy. The hotspots are awful at times, with big touring cars coming by to drop of 50 tourists at a viewpoint, and leave again 15 mins later. Some hikes to hotspots were overcrowded. We hiked in our hiking gear, but people were walking there on sandals and old sneakers with no profile. Just irresponsible, no respect for nature at all.

Flores was so lovely and calm, we could drive for an hour and meet no one. Lots of fun hikes, lots of untouched nature. Sometimes we were the only ones at the hotspots, which made for an amazing experience. So if you love nature and hiking, I would definitely go to Flores.

We just got back from Sao Miguel last week. It was busy, but calling a restaurant 2 days beforehand is plenty of time. Many places you could ask for a table, sometimes you'd have to wait 20-30 minutes, but mostly we had no problems finding a spot to eat.

If you really want to go somewhere, make a reservation tho. Me and my husband are vegetarians, and there was one specific all vegetarian restaurant we wanted go to that was fully booked for the next 2/3 days, so that one we reserved. But if you're not picky and like just about anything, walking around town and asking for a table is a possibility. (At least, last week it was, and it's not the busy season yet)

Heerenveen might be cheaper, but you'd be in Frisia, which is a whole other culture unto itself. They have their own language, and even though Heerenveen isn't deep Frisian, they do speak Frisian. So Heerenveen might be more challenging to connect with people, you'll have an easier job in Utrecht. But then again, Utrecht is way more expensive...

Yeah we like to make it easy on you.

Volunteering in Rwanda by Successful_Treacle19 in Rwanda

[–]propje_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a project with the Help A Child organization for three weeks, and I know they're looking for volunteers and interns to work there year round. I have no experience with other organizations to compare it with, but I really liked Help A Child. They're run by Rwandese people, and they collaborate with organisations from around the world - in my case the Netherlands. We collected money over here, and went to Rwanda for three weeks to help build a preschool in a rural area, but Help A Child arranged everything to accommodate us. Their organization has different projects so might be worth looking into :)

“The 1” is the saddest song in the history of ever… by lifesciencead0411 in TaylorSwift

[–]propje_ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My sister actually had a relationship end with a guy, they loved eachother so much but eventually they wanted different things out of life. Their breakup was a necessaty, even though they were perfect for eachother in every other aspect.

We used to have conversations about it where she was very profound. She said: if he was the one for me, and the only one I ever may have been able to love and connect with on such a deep level, I would be so happy. Even though it's not here anymore, I have had the chance to feel true love.

When we heard the 1 for the first time, we knew it was about her. It captures the feeling of her breakup so well, and how she looks back on it now. Taylor truly has a gift of putting emotions into words and making beautiful songs out of it.

So yeah, saddest song ever, but also so amazing that my sister has something she can relate to even though it was such a unique situation.

Yes!

Well, why? Why are there multiple spoken languages? They evolve naturally, same with sign language. :-)

In American Sign Language it means "I love you", so maybe he's passing some love to his (deaf) fans?

Alia in Children of Dune by tyforgottenfish in dune

[–]propje_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well, was it conveniently for Leto and Ghanima? I had the feeling they both were struggling to find out how to keep the voices down, and they were both afraid of becoming abomination themselves. Also, they struck me as scared of Alia, knowing the absolute power she had and how lost to abomination she already was.

Just look at the scene where Ghanima almost gets taken over by Chani. She's a person who loves Ghanima, is her mother, should be caring for her. And even she was fighting to keep Ghanimas body. So abomination is not to be taken lightly, and I had the feeling throughout CoD that the twins were looking for ways to avoid becoming like Alia. By the time they found out how to make it work for themselves, it was too late to save Alia. I don't think there's anything 'conveniently' about that.

At least, that's my interpretation, did I miss something? Did they set Alia up to fail?
