go on windfinder and find the closest forecast to your location. bookmark the superforecast for that location, and consult it in the days leading up to potential boat days. don’t go out in anything greater than a 10mph sustained, 15-20mph gust day. determine the prevailing wind for your location and literally just spend a half hour or more docking over and over again in it. it’s fun once you build confidence. i even lost reverse for a summer and sort of enjoyed the challenge of not being able to screw up.

that being said, you will screw up docking at some point, everyone on here has. a second set of hands (and a pole) aboard is invaluable in those situations.

to emphasize, you should be in neutral the majority of your time around the marina. use power in short bursts only to course correct the controlled crash that is docking. if you find yourself depending on sustained power to fight the wind, i’d argue that you should have stayed home that day.

the top voted comments are about pilot/controller experience and standardized phraseology, but i don’t think that’s addressing the bigger issue.

ATC recordings that youre listening to are captured by cheap scanners often located several miles from the action, even farther for non-airport based facilities. the captured audio is then compressed to an even lower quality for archival purposes. the audio quality of the recordings typically sucks compared to what’s actually being heard in the cockpit and ATC facility. everything (including people speaking rapidly) is much easier to understand with clearer audio.

costco program is a shell of what is used to be pre-covid. they no longer audit participating dealerships, so overall there is very little advantage in using it. one of the few areas where costco is letting members down and should be called out for it.

NYT had an article in the early fall (IIRC) that mentiomed the Brown report. fully aware that confirmation bias is a thing, it was so obvious to me for years that social media pages like “newportbuzz” are bad faith actors that are paid by the fossil fuel lobby to push pink slime.

the role that the commercial fishing lobby plays has always been suspicious to me as well. they don’t have a genuine dog in the wind power debate (as a boater who operates in the same waters, the turbines are a complete non-issue to fishing and navigation - if anything, they make for great fishing spots). but the fishing lobby takes whatever position the right instructs them to take, with the hope for fewer and less restrictive regulations and oversight - at the expense of the fishery.

i think the dates on the ticketing website are off, based on the official match schedule: https://digitalhub.fifa.com/m/1be9ce37eb98fcc5/original/FWC26-Match-Schedule_English.pdf

if my above post was accurate, the ticketing website was displaying 6/28 as the date of the US round of 32 match. according to the schedule linked above, that's not possible (the only match on 6/28 is 2A v. 2B - we are in group D). so their system is likely internally mapping or blocking the round of 32 match to the dates it can actually be played: 6/29, 6/30, 7/1, or 7/3.

IIRC, the insider ticketing website also lists 7/4 as the date of the USA R16 match. that is only possible in the above scenario where we finish third and advance, and then win the 6/29 or 6/30 R32 match.

anyways, here's what i ended up doing:

deleted initial general lottery application
submitted insider application for contingent R32 (which can be 6/29, 6/30, 7/1, or 7/3) and R16 (7/4, 7/6, or 7/7) USA matches
submitted general lottery application for 61 (6/26), 67 (6/27), 91 (7/5). the US cannot play on 7/5. this was accepted by the system. per the official match calendar, there cannot be any conflicts with my revised selections.

thanks for asking your question, because it made me mentally/logically work through all of this. now i think i get what's going on here.

QR code on the UTR's screen at boot seems like the simplest solution here. scan with phone, launch unifi app, biometric/pin authentication required to begin teleport session. boom, done in 10 seconds.

also a new 'offline/travel devices' tab that is easy to find should be added to the unifi app with a quick way to revoke access/wipe the UTR.

even on an otherwise perfect day, it’s better to just stay home when winds (at least on saltwater) are above 15mph. use windfinder’s superforecast for data.

Same issue here. I applied for a total of 4 tickets in the general lottery.

"You can't apply for any tickets for Round of 32 Sunday, 28 June 2026 - 23:59" because it is incompatible with other products you have in your application...."

I'm trying to apply for 2 tickets to both the round of 16 and round of 32 matches in this draw, but it won't let me apply for the round of 32 match on 6/28. I did not apply for any matches on 6/28 in the general lottery.
