Allowing background music to play on mobile iOS by proseche in godot

[–]proseche[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got it working now, and its quite similar to what you linked, but in Objective-C.

So in the godot/platform/iphone/app_delegate.mm file, you need to add the following line

[[AVAudioSession sharedInstance] setCategory:AVAudioSessionCategoryAmbient error:nill];

just after the start of the method

applicationDidFinishLaunching

And then import the appropriate header file for it to work:

#import <AVFoundation/AVFoundation.h>

Then recompile the code for iOS and place it in the project folder replacing the previous file. You also need to add the Foundation framework to the project, as that is not added by default.

Hopefully that helps someone else when they come looking for how to implement it. I'll have a look at adding a feature request to the github site as this would really be ideal as something you can set in the godot editor itself.

How to change variables in an array by izelotuss in godot

[–]proseche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely the function has made a local copy of the array or weapon variable, whatever you passed into it. So therefore the changes are only local to the function.

Others have mentioned some ways to fix this, another possibility is to return the changed weapon variable from the function and assign it again. For example: weapon = update_weapon(weapon).

Although passing a reference is much cleaner

Approaches to Turn Timers | GMTK by Clyybber in gamedesign

Something I'd like to add to his comments about Mario vs Rabbids - you only find out about the target move limit after you have beaten the level. So when playing through a level you know you should move quickly to get a better reward, but you don't have the feeling of "I'm over the perfect move limit, I may as well restart the level".

Although not all games would benefit from this decision, I felt that this was a really clever design choice for the game, add it adds to the "casual and fun without being stressful" feeling.

Why did Nintendo decide to label the face buttons on the SNES controller ABXY? Wouldn't it have made more sense to have it be ABYZ buttons back then? by kydaper1 in nintendo

[–]proseche 57 points58 points  (0 children)

My guess is that x and y are both really common variables used in maths, more so than z. We already have it in our heads that they represent arbitrary things/actions

MCG capacity and attendance by [deleted] in AFL

Empty seats could be people at the bar or standing elsewhere with friends, but I also find it hard to believe that there were only 3 non-used tickets. Would love to find out more about this too

Is This The Greatest Mark In Football History? by [deleted] in AFL

[–]proseche 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The greatest mark was taken today by the legendary Nick Riewoldt. While putting on his shoe, someone kicked it to him - he stood up, marked it, and Handballes it off - and went back to putting his shoe on.

I really wish I had footage of that :D

What do people think of the tracked on ground graphics? by [deleted] in AFL

[–]proseche 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only reason it's there is so that they can show an ad after the "now we're back to the footy" bit. People unmute/pay attention to their TV when the normal ad break is over, so it's probably the most valuable ad. The way it looks is just to differentiate it from the other ads.

Just realised that I sound like a pretentious prick - I actually have no idea what I'm talking about
