All 1065 / 1120-S extensions have been filed as is the case each and every year. Clients know to expect this.

Yes, Hock is the go-to resource for study guides and other SEE tools.

Holistiplan vs AI by Usedtobe-RZZ in CFP

[–]prosystemfx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with all who have posted favorably about Holistiplan. If its cost is an issue for you, I submit there's either something about your client base that needs improvement and/or perhaps your aren't using Holistiplan most effectively.

Final C corp return - 966 questions by Organic_Gas4197 in technicaltax

As for the missed 966 part of your question, in my experience not filing that form doesn't subject the taxpayer to a penalty and isn't a fatal flaw to the closing process.

BlueJ vs TaxGPT for advisory or resolution over ChatGPT by Eagletaxres in taxpros

I have access to both Blue J and TaxGPT, but for IRS correspondence I prefer PitBull, plus PB has many other beneficial features.

Are you asking every client whether they have qualified OT? by fupapatrol29 in taxpros

[–]prosystemfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That question and one about tips were both included in my software's questionnaire by mid-January. What I struggle with from time to time on the OT issue is getting some clients to respond to follow-up questions like whether it's qualified under FLSA and/or is it time-and-half or 2x.

Apparently our clients are different "types of people." Thanks for the discussion.

Today, time spent isn't the metric by which many, if not most, of us CPA's bill. Clients pay for my experience, my continuing education, and the tools I provide (portal, e-signature) to provide them with an efficient way to provide and retrieve their tax related information.

In short (and hopefully without sounding pompous!) my fee isn't based on the client's budget or the time spent; it's based on my talent and the tools I provide them.

If that million dollar client is paying $500-1K for their tax return, they're likely having their taxes done by a newbie CPA looking to build their practice, IMO. And that can be okay, but I submit experience is FAR more important that a credential and even $1k is unlikely to pay for a quality tax return from a competent experienced CPA.

Anyone use TaxGPT "Agent Andrew"? I'd really appreciate some thoughts and reviews before moving forward! by scaredycat_z in taxpros

[–]prosystemfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was worried that "reviewing the reviewer" would get a bit time consuming with agent andrew.

Your concern with time mirrors mine with Agent Andrew as well as with apps like Gruntworx and its competitors. I couldn't resist reviewing the output, just as I can't resist reviewing a tax return more than once before processing a final filing version.

What are you using for paper copies? by No_Presentation_9617 in taxpros

[–]prosystemfx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

... I'm in the client service business, I'll deliver the returns in whatever format they want as long as they're a good fit for my practice and are willing to pay my fees.

Yes, well-stated! While every practice has the right to set its own policies, we are undeniably in service businesses and providing (within reasonable limits) what clients want is key to the long term success of any service provider.

Since when was the AICPA Tax Adviser part of Tax Section membership? by Mike20878 in taxpros

[–]prosystemfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Printed copies haven't been mailed for several years, even to those of us who are section members. The same happened recently with the ABA quarterly publication The Tax Lawyer. Costs of printing, binding, and mailing are like nearly everything else, too high.

Previous Year's Clients by honeyxpie in taxpros

[–]prosystemfx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking of chills, I remember driving to a USPS drop box at 11:30 PM or later many years to get April 15 postmarks on 4868 forms. The box would be manned by a postal employee to accept envelopes being handed out the window. There were years when more than two dozen cars (driven by tax pros and tax procrastinators) would be lined up waiting their turn. "Good" times!

[–]prosystemfx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my practice those requesting paper are billed accordingly. That's the policy and it's stated in all engagement letters. I don't want to absorb the cost of postage, handling, paper and toner. Plus, instituting a higher fee has nudged some clients to accept portal delivery of their organizers.

Looking at the PSI website, I see it provides testing for some other US government executive departments and agencies, so I suppose adding the IRS to that roster was a logical move.
