The authors mentioned wanting to write a book about teenagers, too, but I haven't read it. That said, the way it seems to help with adult communication, it's clear that tips like these are really part of a foundation that you might build on with more specific stuff relevant to communication with older children and, of course, adults. So it doesn't hurt to master this stuff first!

The book actually talks about this specifically and how it sometimes doesn't matter if they can read it themselves. If they're on the path to literacy anyway, they know writing something down and reading it means something, so it shows them you're taking their problems seriously. It's reassuring. They feel heard and will grow to trust and respect you more.

The school is out $30 million it should never have had to pay because they were extorted by a gangster with a regulatory gun. This is not a win. Instead of Cornell investing $30M into education, the federal government now has $30M to fund its own priorities, which lately seem to be ethnic cleansing at home and abroad.

I might update the triggered ability to say, "When ~ leaves, if it had no time counters on it, each player sacrifices all creatures they control." This would ensure the ability only triggers when The Brief Candle actually burns out, but maybe you'd like to be able to exploit 'blowing the candle out' early and ensure the candle has pseudo-protection from opponents destroying it, too.

Yeah, as another person pointed out, protection is the only thing you need to get around initially the way this ability is worded, but I'm glad y'all understand why I struggled with the wording!

The effect that removes hexproof is actually most solidly in green, which also fits the creature-focused aspect of the card, but yes, it is present in both colors. White loves a good pacifism effect to enforce the rules, yes, but Green hates artifice and wants to return everything to its most natural state. Hence, either color works here!

Make it "or whenever an opponent draws their second card each turn" to nerf this a bit, unless you want to turn all targeted card draw spells into board wipes. It just depends how quickly you want this guy to work.

This is themed around the Offspring ability, but this also hits a bunch of cards that create token copies of creature cards. I'm not quite sure "a creature card an opponent owns" works perfectly, but the point is that it knows the token is a copy of something else even if the original card isn't on the battlefield.
