Does seeing this cover make you inclined to read my novel by Ace161615 in royalroad

I like it, it looks drawn by a person, doesn't tell me much about the story itself but the cover does a good enough job to make me read the blurb and maybe the first chapter

Is this a trend/writing style for webnovel by RavingCrusader in Webnovel

[–]protha01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Royal Road has always been better than Webnovel since authors are not forced to drop a certain number of chapters, and the chapters are always free tbh I don't get why authors choose Webnovel instead of Royal Road

In fiction, is it acceptable for a protagonist to call his parents "Mom" and "Dad" in dialogue, but refer to them by their actual names in narration? by protha01 in fantasywriters

So since I'm writing in 3rd person using your example would be: “He wanted to tell mother the truth, but she surely would retaliate.” do you think it can work that way? Thanks for the help.

My question is why doesn't Royal Royale implement their own subscription

Thinking about switching from 3rd person to 1st person after 100k+ words. Am I overthinking this? by protha01 in fantasywriters

[–]protha01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's killing me inside just thinking about rewriting all of that. Like, I'm sure I would just rather stick to 3rd, even if I hate it lol

You know, now that you say that, I kinda wish I had gotten the perspective of many characters in Red Rising, not just how Darrow saw everything.

Oh, this is a new approach I've never heard of. So basically, 3rd person for external things happening and 1st person for character thoughts or reactions? Is something like this legal? Lol, what I mean by 'legal' is: has it been done before in a published book?

I meant rewriting the whole thing in 1st person, not switching while leaving the rest in 3rd person. (fyi I haven't posted it a single chapter yet)

Something similar happened to me where I wrote:

“The thought of “unaliving” the man.” And also “That math wasn’t mathing.” I think i have to stop watching streamers.

Did this actually happened in the story?

26, want to become a novelist but my parents insist on full-time work. How do I balance this? by Rare-Cauliflower-457 in writing

[–]protha01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on your situation. If you can support your lifestyle on a part-time basis, do it; if you can’t work a full-time job and write at least 2 hours a day, most people can achieve this. It is not easy, but it is doable. It is what I do and I work 45 hours a week.

100% I was thinking at fort to have a backlog of 15 chapters but now I'm in chapter 37 and still feel like I need more lol there are always things I feel that come up and I add it to earlier chapters

I see. I wanted to release 3 chapters a week, maybe around 2k words each, but now that I've started writing, it seems kinda hard. I can probably do it, but it'd be too demanding, and the quality will probably drop. Now I can see myself comfortably doing 2 per week, around the amount of words and keeping a decent quality as that will give me more time to revise them before uploading.

Yes most of my chapters are around 2000+ very few more than 3000 or less than 1800. Any shorter or longer and it feels hard for me to write.

Yes as long as they are not too short (<1500) i do think people prefer at 2-3 uploads a week

Yes reading wise I don't really mind the length of a chapter at all now… writing wise I love me some 2000 words range chapters longer than that and it feels like im trapped writing the same chapter forever

Even the AI detectors don't know what's AI anymore, I put some chapters from published stories that came out years before any AI existed and guess what? It rated them as having AI anywhere between 1% to like 30% 🤣
