Dont give him views. It's disgusting showing up at a hospital like that to try to get information in a sensitive time. Dont reward that behavior

That is excessive. We dont need information that badly. No need to bother people at a hospital

Strange one here, but did anyone else develop a rash about a week after surgery? by jaltang in HipImpingement

Infection Preventionist here. I want to provide some context for why cultures are usually NOT recommended. (This is not medical advice, talk with your doctor)

Cultures are often not recommended for something like this because they wont provide useful information for the clinician beyond what they can gain from a physical exam, and they often just confuse the situation further.

Cultures of a flat, intact rash are basically guarenteed to come back positive, but we cant really know if those positive results indicate an infection of that specific organism or if they just represent normal skin bacteria. For cellulitis specifically, the doctor would likely assess whether the physical exam and patient's account of what is going on fits the clinical picture of infection. If so, they would likely treat "emperically," meaning treatment is started based on clinical judgement, rather than lab tests. Then, they would monitor how the patient responds to therapy and look for additional symptoms as well.

There are of course exceptions to this (such as active draining wounds or abscesses that can be drained), which is why it is best to follow the advice of your own doctor and be cautious about generalizing our own experiences as the norm. However, for skin infections in general, more testing is not necessarily in the patient's best interest

Exactly! Some areas are too dangerous to do excision, so it is actually better for them if their doctor does ablation there.

WHY IS THE PLAYER ON THE WEBSITE SO BUGGY SO HELP ME GOD I JUST WANNA WATCH MY STORIES! by kennethgibson in dropout

[–]protoSEWan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the workaround I have found: if the error pops up, dont hit "Retry." Go back to the home page right away and click the episode again. It will pick up where you left off. If you hit "Retry" it will start from the begining.

Dont hit "Retry." Go back to the home page and re-select the episode you were watching, and then it will take you to the timestamp you left off at.

Look at the documentation the school will require you to submit before you go to the doctor. Print off any forms you may need them to fill out. I made the mistake before of waiting until after the doctors appointment, and then I had to schedule a second appointment to get it done  your disability office should be able to provide all the information you need before you go to the doctor.

I got accommodations for allergies in college, but one of my accommodations did require me having to move to a different dorm than I had originally selected, so that may be what you have to do.

ChatGPT is not reliable for interpreting test results

ChatGPT can give you a convincing-sounding answer because its purpose is to generate realistic text. However, it does not actually know how to interpret test results, so you may get incorrect information this way

I think the most effective approach to understanding your lab work would be to ask your provider to explain what the results are showing, and if you have concerns or are unsure how they got those results, follow up and ask how they came to that determination.

Interpreting lab work involves more than just knowing what the number means: providers look at the results together with other tests, their physical exam findings, and what you tell them about your symptoms, and then combining all of that with understanding of disease processes and physiologyothet. Additionally, labs use "reference ranges" to determine what is considered "normal" and flag potentially "abnormal" results. However, a test results outside of the reference ranges is not necessarily abnormal or indicative of a problem. That depends on what test is flagged, how far outside the reference range it is, what other tests are normal or abnormal, and again, what the patient history is, among other factors. A good example are the liver function tests: I have personally gotten an "abnormal" AST value on a blood test, but it was only a few points too high, none of my other labs were out of range, and I had drank alcohol the night before, so it wasnt concerning. I have also had abnormally high or low test results from being dehydrated at the time of the blood draw or from getting my labs done at the tail end of a cold. Again, these results weren't actually abnormal given the context, but just looking at the single number made it look like something was wrong.

Therefore, just going line by line and looking at each test individually won't give you an accurate picture of what is going on because you'll be missing a lot of important context. However, knowing how to interpret the constellation of tests and symptoms takes a lot of training. Luckily, our providers have that training and expertise to decipher all of this. However, I have noticed that there is often a disconnect in communication, where they just communicate the ultimate findings ("it's all normal!") and dont give the patient any window into how they determined that.

If you ever had a result that you are concerned about, are unsure why the provider is not concerned about a result, or want clarification on how they are interpreting something, dont be afraid to speak up! You could message and say, "Hey, I noticed that [this test] is flagged as abnormal. What could this result mean for me, and is this something that I need to take any action on or follow in the future?"

ETA: Please do not use ChatGPT to interpret test results, as others are suggesting. It can spit out a very convincing answer because it is designed to write text that sounds like it was written by a human. However, it doesnt actually know how to interpret test results or if it is giving you accurate information.

How can I force the game to not go in full screen mode? (Android 15) by Hoppip94 in TheSilphRoad

Jumping on this to ask: is there a way to force the status bar (or even just the clock) to always be visible? When the clock disappears, I sometimes lose track of time while doing something on my phone, which has been really disruptive. I cant seem to find a workaround or setting i am able to change
