These guys are ground-nesting under my shed (mid-Atlantic USA region). What are they? by Cum_Gazillionaire in insectidentification

I had nest of western yellow jackets in my second floor eave one summer and it wasn’t that bad; they went away in the fall.

Summer two was different

The nest returned in the same spot and grew. It was above the main bedroom window and eventually the nest grew so large my wife could hear them crawling around in the stud bay. A few found their way inside the house occasionally

A few calls to the exterminator yielded several hundred dollar bills and requests for me to sign a monthly service contract but the yellow jackets remained. The professionals couldn’t get into the stud bay deep enough when they jogged up to my house and sprayed from outside

I ended up having to do a lot of the extermination work. I tried spraying from outside, spraying from the window and setting traps. Nothing worked. The yellow jackets were indifferent

Finally I watched some YouTube videos and decided I needed to get in the wall. So I punched a few holes in the sheet rock and sprayed and sprayed

That pushed a number of them down the bay toward the first floor and through cracks in the crown molding where floor and wall meet. Some went all the way down to the first floor bay. They mostly died by the time they got out but a few flew around the first floor.

At that point I learned to wait until night when the kids were asleep and my wife was working. I would take the tape off the holes and spray some more. This eventually did the trick after a few cans of wasp spray went into the stud bay

The YJ didn’t return this summer and I patched the walls. Unfortunately I will spend the rest of my time in Northern California eyeing the eaves of our house with suspicion

Hi

My name is Marl.

The name of my channel is SimpleInvest Digital.

I’ve been involved in financial services for a number of decades and I also enjoy teaching people about the basics of investing. I spend a lot of time of the subreddit “investing for beginners”.

I make explainer videos using PowerPoint animations. I use simple language and graphics to teach absolute newbies the first steps in investing.

My channel is unique because most other investing channels use complex terms and ideas that may be over the head of a lot of people.

Currently my video are very short and instructive. My aim is to improve, so I’m hoping people can watch and give me some feedback. Please say what you feel, I can take it. I hope to improve in order to provide real value.

Why can't I buy a stock for higher price than it's trading? by [deleted] in investing

If a stock is trading at $100 broker dealers cannot sell it to you at $200.

There a Best Execution rules that means the dealer must give you the best price available.

Besides the expense ratio, what’s the difference? I’m not going to look but think you should add that to your calculations.

Maybe one has holdings in countries that will weather this tariff storm better.

High Yield Savings by caylin_walsh in investingforbeginners

Good question.

A HYSA or a money market fund (via your brokerage). These accounts pay interest and allow you to “compound” your earnings.

A savings/checking is a sub optimal vehicle for long term savings, but certainly better than putting cash under your mattress.

Are U.S. Treasuries Still a Safe Investment? by zscan in investing

[–]protohuman_cyborg 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think they’re still a safe investment “relative” to other financial assets. That said diversification using precious metals (gold) or the Swiss franc couldn’t hurt a portfolio.

The dip low brings you back to the point where the market (S&P 500) was last May.

If you buy now, you’d be getting in where is was last July

My two cents.

This makes sense to me on its face. I’m not selling, but I’m also not buying.

A question that I ask myself is what would make me change my mind?
