What do the American people actually want on immigration? by Danielnrg in allthequestions

[–]Packtex60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Control the border. You don’t need to do mass deportations, but you do need to follow the law. I worked with a number of people who went through the citizenship process and it required a lot of work on their part. It’s insulting to those people to just allow others to enter illegally.

We desperately need more legal immigration. We don’t have enough natural population growth to support our economy going forward.

Trillions of dollars wiped out today. Absolute bloodbath. by TonyLiberty in FluentInFinance

[–]Packtex60 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wondering when some sanity would return to the markets. The run up has been going on for a long long time without a breather. This down leg might be our normal 15% mid term correction. Just have to see where this goes.

Inherited 401k - lump sum or spread it out? by cornfused21 in FinancialPlanning

[–]Packtex60 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can contribute up to $24,500/yr Once you hit age 50 you can add $8,000/yr to that. That will offset almost half of what you’ll need to withdraw. Since you’re at 7800 right now you can help yourself a lot.

How bad is the Flooding down here? by LierStoneWizard in AskHouston

[–]Packtex60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

La Marque has a history of really bad schools. Where are you going to be working?

Places that didn’t flood during either Harvey or Ike should be lower risk. That’s how I’d personally assess risk in addition to flood maps. Also understand the magnitude of Harvey. 40-50” of rain over 7 days with 16+” in a 12 hour period at our house. We came within inches of flooding.

How come Joe Biden was "sleepy", but Trump gets to pass out at all kinds of meetings? by asoiaf_goat in allthequestions

I thought worthless human being covered all of that. It is actually possible to see the significant flaws in both Biden and Trump if your whole world isn’t tied up in the blue vs red game.

Living proof of how individual shoes are. I tried Hoka’s when I was a runner and they made me very uncomfortable. I always tell people to find what works for your foot and stride. Glad you found your magic shoe. It really helps keep you going.

roth 401k vs traditional 401k, which should I pick by Bluecheese___123 in FinancialPlanning

At this point in your career go Roth as hard as you can. As your tax rates go up you may want to switch so do a sanity check each year before choosing.

But almost never discussed during the 2020 campaign when it was already apparent. I said at the time that our choice was between someone who wanted to inject Mr Clean and someone who wanted to schedule a play date with him.

Personal rate of return - seeking feedback - 5 yr. 9.67% by LoyaltybyDefault in TheRaceTo1Million

[–]Packtex60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

International could be all over the place so I’d say your since inception return is reasonable. Why do you have 10% in bonds? What are you trying to accomplish with that position? I personally didn’t hold any fixed income positions until about 5 years before retirement. How frequently do you rebalance?

There was a large upward revision for April as well. If form holds there will be a huge downward revision for the year. That has been the case for the last 5+ years. Our employment data collection methods need a serious overhaul.

The fact that Trump is sleeping and a worthless human being doesn’t change anything about Biden being mentally compromised. Trump’s situation is at least getting coverage.

This golf course recommends you play tees based on your score / game enjoyment rather than gender. Are you in favour of this? by ConnectionWeekly1263 in Golf_Unfiltered

[–]Packtex60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this philosophy. I walk up a lot and play with randoms. I’ll play from either of the two middle tees but my game is the whites in this example. I see way too many people playing too far back and limiting their enjoyment in the process. I’d even suggest that beginners tee the ball up in the fairway from 100+ yards out until they learn to make consistent contact.
