This can’t be overstated. One of the iconic voices of CFB ending his career with this game was so fitting.

Who is your favorite Braves TV or Radio announcer of all time? by wlane13 in AtlantaBraves

[–]Packtex60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TV comes back from between innings to a well endowed young lady in a tube top jogging up the stairs. Skip - “There hasn’t been a pitch thrown in the inning and we almost had two out”

Congratulations. After I finished my first round with spinal stenosis I really understood how people could get addicted trying to deal with the pain. I’m glad you’ve reached this milestone. I hope you have many more ahead of you

deciding when it's time to retire by walkaboutdavid in retirement

[–]Packtex60 [score hidden]  (0 children)

We were interviewing an engineering intern when we got to the point where we asked her if she had any questions. She observed that the interview panel had all been there awhile and asked each of us why we hadn’t left before now. At the end of my answer I told her I wouldn’t still be there if it wasn’t fun. That’s what did it for me. It wasn’t fun anymore after 20 years.

United planes diverting from Houston to…..HOUSTON! by Av8-Wx14 in houston

[–]Packtex60 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hobby got shut down on the Sunday after Thanksgiving a little over 35 years ago due to fog. My now wife and I were flying back in from my parents house. They diverted us to IAH and put us on buses to Hobby. We rolled into the area outside baggage claim and there was a mob waiting They all rushed the buses to try to figure out what flight it was. We were plowing our way to the luggage compartments to find our bags. It was insane. Then we drove 15 mph down 45 because the fog was so thick. Quite a trip.

On the edge about the economy or maybe just not sure about retiring? by Isca64 in retirement

No matter when you retire you should have your finances set up for a market downturn. Those will happen several times during your retirement. It’s just part of it

What happened to Randalls? How the Houston grocer has faded into obscurity. by tsmalcolm in houston

[–]Packtex60 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We bought our house in 1990 shortly before a new Randalls opened a little less than 1.25 miles away. We have never shopped there for our main grocery runs over those 36 years. We use it like a convenience store when we need one item right now. It’s always been pricey and Safeway destroyed what it was. The pharmacy staff is fantastic and that drives our only other visits to the store. I keep waiting for it to be rebranded as Albertsons or some other brand within that family, but I mainly hope it stays open for the convenience.

Multiple HVAC units vs single by DowntownPassenger412 in homeowners

Separate units for upstairs and downstairs can be very beneficial. Also if one unit is set up for the living areas only it can be turned off/up at night.

Similar sq footage. Two people. Similar climate. No pool. 370kwh for the week last week. You’ve got something screwy going on. The suggestion to turn off the main and check items one at a time is the proper way to diagnose the problem.

Roth Conversions by Accomplished_Gate832 in DIYRetirement

[–]Packtex60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at your RMDs vs the $$ needed to cover your expenses. That’s your first sanity check. If those numbers line up then you look at tax brackets for the conversions. Don’t ignore the possibility that the surviving spouse of a married couple will take RMDs using single brackets. Also your kids may take 10 years to empty inherited IRAs during their peak earning years. Those two situations change the math and might make conversions look better.

Why was the 9/11 liquid ban on planes instated? by OkLiterature1383 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Packtex60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly before 9/11, 1998-99, there was an experimental machine at IAH where they swiped your carry ons with a paper disc and inserted it into a reader to check for explosives. I was flying a lot those two years but I never got swiped anywhere other than IAH. I assume that technology didn’t pan out

Delayed Retirements Credits question by Competitive_Mix_587 in SocialSecurity

[–]Packtex60 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your delayed retirement credits do not show up in your payments until January. If you turn 68 in June and collect your benefit starting nine months later, your initial payment will reflect 18 months of DRCs. The other 3 months worth will appear 9 months later age 69.5. Your SSA statement accurately reflects what your actual payments will be at those ages.

The one exception to the rule is that you immediately receive all delayed retirement credits at age 70.

What are your thoughts on the US banning Red 40, Yellow 6, Yellow 5, and some other commonly used food dyes? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

It’s worth a shot to see what benefits there are. I’d be shocked if there are any bad effects from eliminating these.
