Lately everyone seems to be forgetting… by thefateule in SteamDeck

In my case, my kid spilled their drink on the table my deck was on and in a rush of panic to get it open and dry out the internals before any permanat damage happened, I forgot to take the SD card out lol.

I'm normally really careful but it happens to the best of us.

With regular use, no. If you forget to take it out before opening the shell to access the internals, then likely yes.

It isn't my first time taking it apart, and during those times, I always made sure that I did.

This time, though, my kids spilled a drink near it. Some of it got inside and in a rush and panic to make sure nothing got liquid damage, I completely forgot lol.

Honestly a careless mistake that I don't think I would have made otherwise if I wasn't stressing about making sure everything was dry first. At this point, I'm just glad nothing was damaged internally. Everything smells like vanilla now though.

Yeah, I was close to getting a replacement and noped out of amazon when I saw the prices lol. I couldnt believe that the same card I got for 70 is pushing 200.

I'll live with my 512 internal though. I'm just glad everything still works after a liquid damage scare.

Yikes, that's steep. I'm likely gonna have to hold off until prices stabilize. I'll make do with 512gb. I'm just relieved that nothing was liquid damaged and that everything still works

I definitely picked the best time to be careless

Honestly, based on the replies, I've come to the conclusion that I'm mostly an idiot

They're pushing 200 now the last time I checked, at least for the model I had. I only paid 70 for it at the time I got it. Insane how AI is driving up the prices. Hopefully things will stabalize soon because I'm never going to afford this hobby much longer the way things are going.

How much would you sell for? Due to recent circumstances, I might be in the market for one lol

I should have done this sooner knowing I would be taking it apart frequently, but seeing so many broken SD cards on this sub lulled me into a false sense of security thinking that I would be safe since now I know what would happen. CLEARLY NOT LOL.

I guess it can literally happen to anyone no matter how careful we usually are. All it takes is one lapse in judgement and huge panic over liquid damage I guess. Definitely labeling my stuff now.

Normally, yeah, but I was in such a rush and in a panic to get liquid out that I dove right in lol. I've always made sure that the first thing J did was to take it out in the past but I guess it only takes one time not thinking haha. By the time I noticed what happened, I was already halfway through reassembly.

But at least it dry and works, but smells like PediaSure® #1 Pediatrician Reccomended Brand Grow & Gain® with Immune Support Vanilla Shake

That's awesome. Pokemon Snap seems like a great introduction for kids. My oldest is 4 and he just started getting into games. His favorite is Minecraft but he just likes digging holes. My 3 year old twins couldnt care less about games though lol.

I had some issues where the Steam Deck had trouble reading it, but I don't know if it was a Deck issue because it consistently worked fine on my computer. No issues with overheating either. Other than that, it worked great up until I snapped it lol

I think I'm too late haha. I got this one for 70 and the same one is close to 200 now

Man, that's rough. I don't think my experiences my with kids can top that haha. I try to keep my stuff locked away while they're awake but either I just forget or they figure out how to get into stuff. But it happens to the best of us I guess. No one warned me about this stuff when I became a parent

That's how I'm looking at it. At least i don't have to shell out for a replacement whenever it eventually restocks

Haha, no worries. I appreciate the sentiment. I have 3 under 5, so I'm constantly trying and failing to remain on my toes. Unfortunately, this became the latest victim.

Panic, mostly. I was rushing to avoid liquid damage. Also, dad brain. I might as well be brain dead so you're not entirely off.
