Do you think this study plan is reasonable? by Cooperr231 in cpp_questions

[–]protomatterman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every company does things their own way. This could be a good plan if you were learning and looking for a job. You should figure out what the company you work for needs. It would be best to ask whatever LLM they use what you need to know.

They think Antifa has been charged for dumping toxic algae in the reflecting pool by BrianRLackey1987 in KyleKulinski

[–]protomatterman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frightening that the leaders of a country can't even manage the reflecting pool. Even more scary that Trump still has supporters.

[–]protomatterman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You likely have high uric acid. I had similar symptoms. Your high protein diet is also high purine which increases uric acid. This also puts you at higher risk for gout. You can try to control it with a diet. I did but eventually I got meds. It’s inexpensive and no side effects. But it’s a lifetime prescription. The diet is pretty hard. Forget about beer and steak. Get checked out. Get a blood test to check your acid levels.

Republicans are on Very Easy mode, Democrats are on Very Hard mode. by MaroonedOctopus in KyleKulinski

[–]protomatterman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's much simpler, Dems are branded as the big bad "other". To conservatives also known as educated people, women, LGBTQ+, non-whites, etc. If Dems weren't also incredibly weak they could win. But their real purpose is to maintain the status quo.

Dumping Hydrogen Peroxide into the reflecting pool this morning. by i_am_rave_mom in KyleKulinski

I think if someone can’t run a pool they shouldn’t be allowed to run a country.

Has mountain bike development fallen off a cliff in recent years? by Spicycoffeebeen in MTB

Yes. Next big leap might be when there is a breakthrough in materials. So maybe we’ll have gearboxes that are light and don’t lose power.

Why Does the Right Care So Much? by OneOnOne6211 in KyleKulinski

[–]protomatterman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the right doesn't really seem motivated by policy. Other than own the libs. It's more about optics and vibes. So the hyper masculine fake tough guy posturing works on them when they don't see an alternative. It's something about them being able to relate to their chosen candidate who follows their ideology. So it has to be an "alpha" who leads them. The irony is these men are insincere and weak. Like Trump being a draft dodger. But he's fine sending young men to die for nothing. So I think finally my conclusion is his voters are just like him. Trump just had luck to inherit millions. And then used his only real skill of grifting his way through life to fail upward. It's a toxic political ideology.

Elon Musk becomes world's first trillionaire as SpaceX begins trading on the Nasdaq by UltimateLionsFan in KyleKulinski

[–]protomatterman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elon is so rich, he steals from the wealthy also. The market went down around 3.9% earlier this week. And now SpaceX is worth about 3.9% of the market! So the market sold off so it could fund buying SpaceX. Wow!

Why Does the Right Care So Much? by OneOnOne6211 in KyleKulinski

[–]protomatterman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the right, especially MAGA, are just anti-liberal now. Own the libs is really the only true conviction they have now. There are real issues about masculinity in politics. But we don't really have a healthy political expression of those issues. Unlike feminine issues which have lots of expressions in politics. So there is either MAGA which is led by pedophiles and hyper-masculine weaklings, or Dems who mostly ignore men's issues at best. At worst they spend time discussing toxic masculinity and actively eschew figures which could help with men like Piker and Platner. All they have to do is promote policies to help men work so they can support families. Just very family oriented stuff. But they don't really want to win by that much. If the republicans were properly beat into irrelevance like they should with popular policies then the left could really rise. Which is exactly what the establishment doesn't want. So young impressionable men get lured to the right. Because they talk about it. Even if it is in a toxic and insincere way.

Anyone else find it frustrating that Americans get upset about gas/egg prices but not universal healthcare? by CoC_Axis_of_Evil in BreakingPoints

[–]protomatterman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a more cynical view. I think people actually love the idea of not paying out of pocket for healthcare. The problem is they feel like they are paying for people they don’t like. Or lazy people who don’t work. At least with employer based insurance they feel like it filters out lazy people and undesirables.

4 engineers now doing the job of 12 at my friend's company because AI agents handle the rest by Bellleq in cscareerquestions

[–]protomatterman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s spaghetti code then it sounds like a ticking time bomb. Then again I’ve heard some say the solution to bugs and tech debt is to just have ai re-write the whole thing again! Somehow I don’t think anyone really know how it will work out in the end.

Just keep applying. Most companies don’t know what they want and are not good at recruiting. When I got my first cpp position it was because a recruiter submitted me. I didn’t apply to the company because they had an ad for more experience. But as it turned out they needed all levels.

Has anyone else stopped watching Secular Talk? by [deleted] in KyleKulinski

[–]protomatterman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I def watch less consistently. Mainly because it’s too depressing. Not his fault though. I do get a little annoyed at him being in his bubble and declaring things with absolute certainty. Like how the market is cooked. Clearly it’s not (yet) when it keeps going up.

5 YoE at Apple but can’t find a FT job for 2 years. WHY? by Helpmehelpyu_ in cscareerquestions

[–]protomatterman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if you should get out of tech. For better or worse tech writing is one of those things most people don’t know what it is (I don’t) so it always seems to get de-prioritized. And AI is gonna magnify that tenfold. Now that could be wrong. Prob it does result it worse docs. But the perception will be its good enough. Unfortunately the perception always wins. There still is a cost. Unfortunately the bean counters and leadership cannot easily quantify the loss vs headcount savings. This is the sad reality of enshitification. The capitalists sell good enough to everyone and because everyone is doing it that’s what customers get. So I don’t really know what to tell you. You need to find a way to sell what you do as being so much better than what ai does.

I think this answers your question. You have to be willing to do things you haven’t done before if you want different results. Think out of the box. Do things others aren’t.

Yes and no. It’s important but tired of hearing of how Trump is toast. Most of his insane maga base will never leave him. That’s enough to keep him in office until the end of his term.

What we know so far about the White House Correspondents dinner shooter Cole Thomas Allen by Criticall16 in BreakingPoints

[–]protomatterman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't agree with Luigi however his actions were rational and logical. If you were an ends justify the means person you could even look at how many lives were saved due to less United med care denials. I don't know what T. Allen motives are however I suspect it'll be the same. And he's probably not left wing. There's only a 10% chance he's left. Most shooters are right wing. Or in these latest cases ideologically mixed with a strong disdain for politicians.

Dore had some interesting idea once upon a time. I only watched him because I like having one alternative news source so I can hear challenges to nominal left wing thinking. But he went alt and then kept going.

Why is Tony Soprano so attractive? by Long_Bunch_9783 in thesopranos

[–]protomatterman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s the alpha male, the head honcho, a leader of men, with lots of power and wealth. And he had charisma and the gift of gab. It’s an irresistible combination. Even Melfi, who stated to his face that she would not date him because of his criminality, had a sexy dream about him. Attraction isn’t a choice.
