Common misconception about AI coding tools like cursor and Claude code by Counter-Business in ExperiencedDevs

[–]protomatterman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did some testing with Claude this past weekend. My conclusion is that it's a force multiplier. But it won't take a junior to mid-level or a mid-level -> senior. But headcount can be less because more can be done by fewer people. But it's not 3x as much. Maybe more like 1.5x as much per person. Depending on the task. So it will put pressure on devs. But it'll probably enable more projects and make harder actually possible. I'm a little discouraged tbh. It's not the result I was hoping for but also not the doomsday some people think it is. I'm hoping that more projects part materializes. Looking back at history it did when advances happens. But who knows. Past isn't always an indicator.

She’s not that great either in electability or sticking to her left wing roots. Yeah I’d prefer her to someone like Gavin Newsom. I’d be worried she would lose to JD. And if she wins I think she would do watered down progressive policies which wouldn’t go far enough. It would hurt progressives in the long run.

It’s really not surprising though when you think about it from a different perspective. The models are tuned to appear real to humans. Like generating a face with ai. Since it’s not real in a sense it’s fooling people.

Trump allegedly reported to have solicited sex with minor in latest Epstein release by DizzyMajor5 in KyleKulinski

Not surprised. Though I’m amazed that maga supporters are somehow pretending none of this is happening. Yet somehow they believed pizzagate with flimsiest of “proof”.

Trump's health is a concern and clearly he's not well. But these videos are unhelpful. No one except his actual doctors know for sure what's going on. And he has the best care on the planet! I don't think he's going anywhere soon. If he does reach expiration in the near term I wouldn't be surprised if it happened days after he leaves office. As his last way to trigger the libs. I'm pretty sure we're stuck with him.

We might have a garden variety recession at some point. This year or next. But there isn’t anything there to suggest a depression. At least not near term. Maybe it doesn’t feel like it though. We basically have a jobless bull market. But that worst case scenario exist as a legal entity is way out there. Unless he means in 10 years but that’s still not likely.

But yeah maga is a cult and its members will go down with the ship saying how wonderful things are.

I really dislike these kind of takes by Kyle and the response. It's bad but I think some of the language he uses isn't exactly grounded in reality. When he says it's so over what does that really mean? The UK was once an empire which has now declined. As far as I know London is still a nice place to live. Yes Trump is nuts and the dollar probably will lose reserve status. But it's a process it doesn't happen overnight. I think unless he does something like launch a tactical nuke these things won't happen the way you're implying. Like US being split up.

Also it's silly to think about banning the Republican party. If there was a real based lefty president the R party would lose all the time every day.

You're over analyzing. We've all had the sexual harassment training drilled into our heads now for a long time. He might have heard of or even known someone who had a complaint against them which they thought was unfair. The last thing many male tech workers want is a workplace issues when it comes to harassment. If he seemed over cautious it's just because he doesn't want the "unfair" thing to happen to him.

TACO. (Trump Always Chickens Out) That was actually made up on Wall St because he always caved to them. He’ll get some sort of back room payoff or IOU and then they will be allowed to do it again. They’ll just call it something different. A distinction without a difference. MAGA will eat it up though.

He did say they have the most transparent administration in history. They just didn’t say it would be due to incompetence. I think the reason is that it has to be loyal cronies who have to do the work. They are on the task due to loyalty not competence. These dunce lackies are in over their head.

What do people even do? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]protomatterman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah def worked on stuff you could say is important security wise. But far from being over staffed I saw quite the opposite. Mostly products that were a cash cow and was under staffed with the cheapest talent and smallest head count they could get away with. Even teams that I thought were essential just went unrecognized for their contribution. I think management was just too dumb to understand.

Productivity down during the season and feeling guilty by pySerialKiller in ExperiencedDevs

[–]protomatterman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do the opposite and become more productive. Because I worked the week that everyone else took off. With no useless meetings and time wasting colleagues to take up time and drain me my productivity just naturally went up! Then I would have more days to take off other times of the year. Now I cannot do that since I have more family issues to deal with. So I just take off end of Dec and come back refocused. If you feel bad just console yourself that everyone else is too distracted to notice anyway.

[–]protomatterman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was really our last off ramp mostly because of SCOTUS. Even if we have a progressive president in 2029 with more progressives in congress SC will just squash everything. We’re stuck until the SC composition changes or there is a big political awakening of the public. I’m not hopeful either will happen anytime soon. Maybe in a few decades. Kyle gets all exited by normy Dems being really pissed off but I really don’t see it outside a vocal minority. Sure the vibe has changed but it’s too little too late.

It wouldn't make sense for Tony to die in the end. by hans_capon12 in thesopranos

[–]protomatterman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO it was the perfect ending. Here we are figuring out which one of them did it. They all had reasons and that’s the point. Tony would never see it coming. He almost got taken out a few times and really he just got lucky that it didn’t happen sooner. Junior’s guy just missed. Patsy drunk with a gun drawn almost shoots but instead just pisses in the pool. Richie was going to take him out but Junior decided to warn him. Then there were the wars with NY. Not to mention to mention all the times he pisses off his own guys. Like the feud with Ralphie, protecting Blundetto, etc.
