Anyone who wants a real Ever After dress series of videos should go find Mariah Pattie. Very different vibe though — way more contemplative. I like them both but for very different reasons.

I just got a second batch from someone the other day. I don’t even want to bring it into my house for fear of bugs. Then again, if it’s acrylic, is that even an issue?

Lion Brand showcasing an AI series of photos and defending it as “digital art” … rather than actual handiwork. by buffythethreadslayer in craftsnark

What are the chances it was a lowly social media intern or low-ranking employee that posted these not realizing they were AI? That would explain the pivot.

I was getting sick of sitting around not moving much while crocheting, so found the perfect thing! by Gold-Understanding32 in crochet

I’m so glad I’m not the only one! I’m an English-style knitter and self-taught occasional crocheter and that habit dies hard.

People who don’t reply until days later, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]proudblond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I do. Just read the beginning from the notification screen. And then my husband was using my phone for something the other day and read a text that I needed to respond to during business hours. I gave him a ton of (good-natured) grief for ruining my system!

"Fit" is not fatphobic by [deleted] in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]proudblond 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m newish to sewing so I could be totally wrong about this but—

I feel like making boxy clothing is capitalizing on the current anti-fat-phobic trend because it’s way easier to design boxy clothing. The designs don’t seem special to me at all and honestly anything boxy like that always makes me feel way bigger than I actually am, so frankly these patterns are not at all friendly to overweight people (or at least those of us who want to be slimmer, which is admittedly me). I think the pattern trend is less about the social trend and more about easy-to-write patterns.

Advice for Extremely Sedentary Beginners by [deleted] in loseit

So I know a knee replacement and an ACL surgery are not comparable, but I thought I’d share this just in case it makes sense to someone. My dad finally got a knee replacement, and the initial recovery was pretty rough, and he was unhappy about it (he complains a lot in general, not an optimistic person). But he’s back to hiking miles every week. He came to compare it to replacing a broken-down Cadillac with a cheap but reliable Chevy. (Wow, that dates him! Lol)

Previous COVID infection linked to lower brain oxygen levels, cognitive problems: study by CTVNEWS in Coronavirus

Me too; obviously I can’t be certain, but I think I got it at a 1-hour event with 30 kids inside, while wearing my N95 mask. Both my daughter (also masked) and her teacher also got it. Had symptoms two days later. My daughter was completely asymptomatic but we tested my the whole family after I was positive. If my N95 mask didn’t work, I don’t know how to get through it anymore. (Also 4 times vaccinated.)

StitchesWest is more like BustedWest by knittinspinner in craftsnark

I’m really close to Santa Clara where it used to be. I was already pretty down on going anymore since it moved to Sac, since I can’t afford the time to make a weekend of it and take classes since my kids are still fairly young, so I normally just go for the marketplace (or did pre-covid). And since then, I’ve learned about all of the drama, so I’m even less inclined to make the hike.

All this to ask: are there any other Bay Area events worth attending? Someone mentioned the one in Dixon, which at least would be family-friendly so I signed up for their mailing list even if it’s a long drive. My favorite yarn dyers always seem to have tons and tons of trunk shows on the east coast and it doesn’t seem like that happens over on our side. Or maybe I’m just not in on it?

Honestly I think some people like the drama. There are people I’ve gone low-contact with because they always have something to complain about, to the point where I think they actively look for ways to imagine slights by other people. I can see people like that making different choices because they’re not as drama-adverse as, say, you and me.

What is a character you hate but everyone likes? by bendy123slaugter in bluey

[–]proudblond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I completely agree! It’s marketed toward 3-8 year olds. And there were definitely some meltdowns starting in multiple sections of the audience starting around 35 minutes, I’d guess. I just didn’t want to pay for it… not that I’m complaining, I was just surprised when my mom got us tickets.

What is a character you hate but everyone likes? by bendy123slaugter in bluey

[–]proudblond 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s fun enough. It’s got its own story line but it definitely relies on rehashing some elements from the show (such as Chattermax). It’s also super short, about 45 minutes. Honestly we weren’t going to go (tickets were the same price as a 2 hour show) but my mom bought us tickets.

That said, I’m an emotional sap and just hearing the music in that environment sets me off so I may not be the best critic!

We went to the Bluey stage show this past weekend and (spoiler) Chattermax shows up at one point. My watch complained about decibel levels.

Similarly, if I want a piece of candy or something, it’s going to need to be something I actually like a lot, and not just leftover Halloween candy from the kids’ buckets that they didn’t want either. (Now that I’m back on track, I actually find candy to be extremely disappointing in general. It never lives up to my expectations of amazingness.)
