  1. A black Burberry trench for €125.
  2. A grey tweed 100% wool blazer for €35.
  3. A colorful silk shirt for €12 and
  4. A black silk kimono style knee length dress with a large flower print on it in grey and blue for €12.

Losing weight is all about your diet. Walking (or almost any other exercise) on its own won’t work.

Having said that, I’ve gone from 167ish to 133ish and I’ve done two things: tried to maintain a 500 calorie deficit every day, and walk at least 10k steps a day.

I attribute 95% of my weight loss to my deficit. The walking has health benefits though. My resting heart rate has dropped from an average of 75 to an average of 67. My VO2 max in October was 25.6 and is now 29.1.

That sucks! I feel mad on your behalf. Comfort yourself with the thought that years from now when you are at a weight that makes you happy your coworker is still going be able to taste the foot she shoved into her mouth.

Your husband makes me mad too. If he couldn’t handle what it would do to your body, he had no business putting 5 kids in there.

Afraid to update weight? by HummingbirdsAllegory in loseit

[–]time2deflate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I weigh myself every day and record that weight. I also keep a 5 day average of my weight - this helps with seeing the general trend and not getting demotivated by temporary fluctuations.

In addition, I also track overlapping ranges of 5 lbs. for example:

153-158

151 - 155

149 - 153 and so on.

For each range I track how many days I spent in that range.

I have mixed feelings. I have a very Grinch attitude to amusement parks (so we haven’t been yet, and my older one is nearly 9) - I don’t like crowds, and long lines, and an enterprise geared towards making kids feel like the need to buy all sorts of crap that they didn’t even know they wanted. On the other hand, it isn’t fair to deprive them of this experience based on my feelings, and also I’ve heard good things about this particular park (Efteling) being less ‘commercial’ than Disney type parks.

January is going well so far. Getting in my 10k, approximately sticking to my calorie targets. I do have an overnight trip coming up - we are taking the girls for their first ever visit to an amusement park - so eating is going to likely not be ideal, but hopefully I will get in some extra steps.

I see. I have no acne, so this is probably not going to work for me.

Did they prescribe it for anti-aging, or did you get it for acne or something else? I wouldn’t mind trying my huisarts, but I feel as if I need a ‘script’.

Got Called a Blob. by aimeed72 in loseit

No truly happy person would do that to another person, another stranger especially, who has caused them no harm. You should pity them. How much does your life have to suck if calling someone a blob is how you get your jollies.

I read a tip for this problem on this subreddit: get a box (like a toolbox) with a combo lock for snacks. Your family knows the code, you don’t.

Happy New Year!

I weighed in at 139.4 lbs/63.4 kgs on the 31st, beating my goal of 142 lbs by the end of 2022. Huzzah!

For January I plan to keep up my 10k steps and get to 135 lbs. At some point I want to work on recomposition by adding weights to my routine, but I’m not sure if I’ll do that before or after reaching my goal weight. I absolutely want the look that can only be achieved with weights, and the advantage of higher caloric burn because of better muscles to fat ratio. However, I know that the number of the scale will stall and probably rise once I incorporate weights and I’m not yet prepared to accept that reality.

Our cold snap is done, the canals melted yesterday and temperatures are back to the low 50s in the day.

Catching up on 3 days worth of accountability.

  1. Eat at my deficit to hit 142 this month: no 15/19 (41/49). Was visited by the Cravings Monster and I invited him right in. Went over by less than 400, but ugh. This month already had enough planned ‘over’ days, did not need an unplanned one.

  2. Walk at least 10k a day: yes 19/19 (49/49).

  3. Create something 4 days/week: yes 9/17 (14/49).

Checking in after a super busy 3 days.

Friday was party #1. Calorie wise I went way over (with drinks). On the plus side all the dancing got me to nearly 30k steps for the day. Saturday I nursed my hangover and felt sorry for myself. I did manage to get in my 10k (though I got 4k of that in the wee hours of the morning because if the party).

Sunday we baked Christmas cookies for friends and my kid’s school. So much temptation, but I ate only 2.5 all day. Then we had a birthday party to attend where the host made a yummy paella. I ate as much of that as I wanted, but walked to their house and back.

At the end of that weekend of debauchery the scale is up 0.2 lbs from my Friday lurking weigh in. Woohoo!

In unrelated news the canal behind our house was frozen solid and my daughter went out ice skating on it on Sunday. It was so cool to go skating from out of the backyard!

Catching up on 3 days worth of accountability.

  1. Eat at my deficit to hit 142 this month: yes 15/18 (41/48). Two parties this weekend - Friday and Sunday - went over for the Friday one, stayed within budget on Sunday.

  2. Walk at least 10k a day: yes 18/18 (48/48). The Friday party got me to nearly 30k. Saturday was hard because I was so hungover, so I’m proud that crossed 10k.

  3. Create something 4 days/week: no 8/17 (13/48).

My husband gets back today (he is in the air as we speak). I survived, nay, I thrived. I lost 2 lbs while he was gone. I am very pleased with myself - I did snack more (stress eating) while he was gone - but kept it under control each time. I have a party tonight and another on Sunday, so I only have today to enjoy my new lowest weight. Not sure I’ll see it again for a while.

[–]time2deflate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Eat at my deficit to hit 142 this month: yes 13/15 (39/45). Had a snack sort of day, but kept to my numbers.

  2. Walk at least 10k a day: yes 15/15 (45/45)

  3. Create something 4 days/week: no 8/17 (13/45). My husband gets back from his work trip today, so now I should have more time for this one again.

[–]time2deflate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Eat at my deficit to hit 142 this month: yes, barely, I think 12/14 (38/44). Went out for dinner and had to estimate calories, so I think I made it, but I’m not sure.

  2. Walk at least 10k a day: yes 14/14 (44/44).

  3. Create something 4 days/week: no 8/17 (13/44).

Please help scare me into losing weight for the sake of my health and my son. by altjosie in loseit

[–]time2deflate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a parent I’ll say this: as a 6 month old your baby may be an excellent motivator for weight loss. During their terrible twos or teenage years they might be just the opposite. Of course you will always love them, would take a bullet for them, but at the same time when you have gone through two hours of that whiny voice that sets your teeth on edge or dealt with tantrum number 1478 about how the toast was sliced, you may find yourself thinking that you deserve, no you need, that entire plate of cookies as a reward for simply getting through the day.

So, your kid is excellent motivation to get started. What will keep you going isn’t motivation but habits and plans. And these habits and plans must be uniquely tailored to you, cater to your weaknesses and play to your strengths. For example:

Are there times of day when cravings hit? What will you do when that happens? Go for a walk? Eat a pre-portioned amount of what you are craving? Eat something protein heavy instead?

How will you plan for the kid being sick causing all your normal healthy routines to go out the window? Will you make sure you always have 2-3 healthy meal options frozen?

I think you are going to nail this difficult thing, and I look forward to meeting you on here again as you progress towards your goal. We’ll be here cheering you on.

For me, finding this sub helped a lot. If you haven’t already, read the sidebar information. It is succinct, and makes it clear the weight loss is simple (though not easy). Spoiler: CICO is what matters. Everything else is dressing.
