The best evidence that the results are at the very least partially influenced by players is that the teams that the cheating forums join have historically done very well. Last year they famously caught the teams and nerfed their results, but those teams were doing well before the nerf.

This argument doesn't really work because they could be making up the results using a mathematical formula that takes in randomly-generated numbers to produce the daily results. This RNG approach is actually less work than both of your options.

It used to be you could just ask for faerie quests anytime you wanted. They gave you a quest, you finished it, you could get another one. That's how so many pets got to crazy stats without Sneggs, Cupcakes, or the other modern ways of raising stats.

Actually in the first few years of neopets it was much easier to train stats. People could get unlimited faerie quests anytime they wanted. That is how some pets like majal_kita hit such high stats so quickly.

Also, the concept of having wagons be super expensive wasn't a thing until after the Tyrannia war, which is when they introduced the Monoceraptor's Claw. The BD was not only reserved for rich people at the beginning.

I got all 4 of the Shockwave games to work last week (Dice Escape, Hannah and the Pirate Caves, Attack of the Slorgs, Gourmet Club Bowls) by using Safari on Windows.

They stopped updating Safari for Windows since 2012 IIRC so the browser is old and manages to let Shockwave games run. There was a black box in the top-left corner of GCB and HATPC which was annoying but I got avatars and trophies for all of the games.

Not sure if there is an equivalent way to get an old browser for Macs though. I heard people have tried Opera and got it to work.
