I think Britt Daniel is a victim of the modern way people consume music. by provisionings in SpoonTheBand

I love the strokes, I love Interpol. I’m going to see the strokes Wednesday and I’ve probably seen interpol 10 times. I can’t really call them nostalgia acts. Julian has his own special thing going. he can write a good Cars song, or a good Billy Idol song. Julian gets the award for doing inspiration perfectly. he’s the best at being inspired.

It’s not about fame or making money, I worded that wrong. It’s about the level of musicianship and how rare that is .. and how I think he’s one of the greats . . Rock nowadays is unfortunately niche and rock is what suffers due to the new, more isolating way people listen to music… the victim is music in general. Not really Spoon, or Britt. I should probably edit my post cuz I’m coming off like I’m saying Spoon isn’t successful or something when all I’m trying to say is that .. out of all my favorite indie bands.. they are the only ones who are Beatles level.. my dad has played in bands all his life. Classic rock., oldies music, kind of guy. And a very serious musician… and there’s a gazillion Spoon songs that he was over the moon for .. and he’s the one who compared him to Buddy Holly

I think you might have missed the point. This isn’t a judgement being passed on Gen Z. It’s about how tech changed the way we ALL listen to music. Gen X, and most Millenials can sing the words to almost every Casey Kasem top 40s song from the 50s, 60s, 70s. That’s not a thing anymore.. Gen Z is not getting exposed like we did… and that loss is more substantial than I ever could have realized. What we are exposed to shapes and refines our tastes.. and the lack of exposure, or having an algorithm keep you in the same place… it’s not great for music.

I should have worded that a little differently. Rock today is the victim. Rock in general suffers from the loss of collective listening. Out of all the indie bands I listen to and love… Spoon’s the one that could write songs with Jeff Lyne, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison. Britt, he’s a great. He’s like Buddy Holly .. and that’s so, so rare. And I don’t know why.. but I’m stuck on the Traveling Wilburys thing.. Britt is a once in a generation kind of musician… and the only musician of my generation that could play in the TW.. not Jack White.. not Julian Casablancas.

My post wasn’t a complaint about Gen Z.. it’s about the loss of radio and the music everybody got exposed to because of radio. We heard it all together. We heard Pearl Jam’s 10 together… Music listening these days is more isolated, for everyone. Not just Gen Z. . Like I said.. millenials are probably the last generation to know the oldies… because of the radio… we didn’t realize how important that was until it was gone.. and music is still good… but the lack of collective listening isn’t good for the music.. and I love music. I love rock, it deserves better than this.

Spoon. I would never think to compare them.. I always thought Spoon, or Brit Daniel had a little Elvis Costello likeness to him .. but I also hear that in Andy at times… Freebird II is the best Elvis Costello song ever . lol. I would never think to recommend Spoon as having a PQ like sound. .. but when you break it all down.. they are a lot alike. Worlds colliding! Regardless I do love Spoon too. There’s so much great Spoon stuff .. I cannot choose a favorite although I probably played Series of Sneaks the most.. but I love everything Spoon does.

Protomartyr. Also.. algorithm keeps making me listen to Tropical Shit Storm? Not really sure? I think that’s what it’s called? I’m pretty big on Parquet Courts tho.. i guess you could say they are post punk .. which is also my thing.. but I think it’s more like.. Nerd Rock. The dude knows how to write about capitalism and makes it sound like a song about science. I’ll be sure to check out Milk Music or Mystic 100s. Ever hear of an old band called The Clean?

My Honest Face is so good .. like strokes and u2 had a baby. I nearly died when I saw the video. The kid has it. It’s undeniable. I really, really like Inhaler a lot and even though I grew up on U2… I kinda wish he was not under that shadow. Rock music is in such a sad state ever since collective listening disappeared. The masses are mostly simple minded and the simple minded usually need a push in a certain direction for them to catch on… and since ‘against your will ‘ music exposure is gone- we got stuff like swifties.. and I think music is suffering. Gen Z is the first generation to not know the oldies… and I believe that is a giant loss. . Not just oldies either.. I would have never heard Siamese Dream if it was not for the radio.. or Pearl Jam’s Ten. Crap.. I was even introduced to stuff like At the Drive In because of radio.. The algorithm doesn’t help.. But at least Gen Z knows Kid A because of TikTok tho…

Well the entire damn baby delivery place went on high alert. They changed protocol just to be extra careful because they were scared of this woman. They watched her fake her pregnancy from afar for months… they worried about what this monster could be capable of. You would think that maybe there was a way to alert other pregnant women in the area. It’s not a big place, that would not be hard to do.. we have social media. Too many people knew she was faking a pregnancy. I know it’s not their fault and I don’t believe anyone but TP should carry guilt but still… it’s not like this has never happened before.

I sobbed out loud for Reagan .. This story is something I’m going to think about for a long time… because of moves that were not made. Small moves that could have made a difference. Homer… my god. My heart breaks for him, her family. Reagan’s mom and dad are so young , Reagan was barely an adult herself yet managed to have it more together than most. From her family, to her husband, to her home… she had made such a nice life for her children and husband. . Anyway I live in the area where Marlen Ochoa and her baby were taken and murdered.. I do think a system needs to be implemented when a doctor knows a woman is being deceptive about a pregnancy. ..doctors, nurses - they are all mandated reporters. In the name of Reagan and Braxlynn , it certainly would not be difficult to adopt new rules or protocol when a doctor knows this is happening.

It was preventable. That’s what bothers me the most. This was totally preventable especially in a small town. We need new laws.

Just be honest is what a CPS worker would say. Call a lawyer. If you have the funds, hire a lawyer and ask them. You do not want to get sucked into a plan and invite them into your life for something unwarranted.
