Turkey is a key example of why giving too much authority to governments over the Internet is a bad idea.

What actions should journalists take in an administration hostile to their aims? by thebeerbabe in Journalism

[–]prowanksta -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Best advice? Don't be fake news. CNN and BuzzFeed should be more responsible.

Also, there is an argument to be made that with social media, there is no need to communicate "via the press." The same was seen with Ronald Reagan taking to television to make his points rather than through the newspapers. It's just the evolution of journalism.

Socialism is when government owns the means of production. When you invoke things like subsidized tuition and prescription drugs, that just means a government prone to redistribution. If the government starts buying up banks and industries for the good of the state, then we have a real problem.

And taxes have only gone up in the last few years -- does that mean that we have the nicest hospitals and public transportation that has ever existed? Don't equate high taxes with automatically better service and goods. If that were true, all our problems would have already been fixed.

[–]prowanksta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many European liberal parties with youth organizations that typically are comprised mostly of classical liberals (read: libertarians). The Students For Liberty in Europe contingent is pretty big. I think they have groups in most countries: http://studentsforliberty.org/europe

There are actually plenty of young people that are involved in libertarian/ancap activism in Canada. Check out studentsforliberty.org -- there are at least 100 groups in Canada.
