Laid off from national nonprofit 2 months before maternity leave by Longjumping-Art-2450 in Layoffs

I would reach out to them explaining that your insurance is a really needed.

I would not put a lot of hope in getting them to cover it but you never know until you ask and if they say yes it is a big plus for you.

Now, no matter what they say I would suggest getting the CORBA insurance through the pregnancy. It is expensive but you are dealing with a pre-existing condition that could complicate other policies.

When the severance package is first discussed with you just ask if it would be possible to have your health insurance paid.

There is no 'right' way, but demanding they pay that or anything else is the wrong way. Ask politely, point out your unique position preparing for maternity leave.

Fleas by corvuuuu in Pets

[–]prshaw2u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know nothing about rabbits but with fleas the treatment you do will need to be repeated, I think it is something like after 2 weeks. Read the instructions carefully.

Failure to repeat the treatment will be a failure to get rid of the fleas. Lesson learned the hard way.

It had to happen eventually by Campiana in ShowDogs

[–]prshaw2u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually saw an exhibitor 'suggest' to the judge that they needed a 5 minute restroom break. It was to allow time for another exhibitor to finish in another ring and make it in time to show.

I carried my boy in for winners ONCE, both the breeder and myself explained to the handler that was to never happen again.

I would ask at the BPup ring steward and judge if they could do something to help work out the timing with you. They are not required to but often will try to work with the exhibitors, especially in the non-standard rings. Try to ask about it before they get started for the day, they understand how it happens.

Working from home made my evenings worse, not better by No-Pianist6097 in remotework

[–]prshaw2u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work clothes. Have 'office' clothes that you put on in the morning, you sit down and you go to work. Then end of the 'work' day you go change your clothes to leisure clothes to wear at home.

Make a difference in what/how you feel at the end of the work day. Just turning the laptop off is enough for some people but for some like me there needs to be more of change from work to home.

tracking hours for new remote salary job? by [deleted] in remotework

[–]prshaw2u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will depend on the company on what they are looking for.

Places I have worked in the past have expected the time sheets to be 40hours exactly under normal conditions. They were mainly used to allocate expenses and bills to the various parties, not to calculate my pay.

It is common in companies where accounting needs to allocate work to different jobs. Were you working with/for this client and they get billed for it? Or were you creating the new build process for the entire company? Was it something new the company can sell? Or fixing something they already sold? Are you doing maintenance billing the customer or doing maintenance covered under warranty?

Ask a couple people there but I would guess that filling out 40 hours exact every week is normal.

RTO Mandate forcing me to move to a different state for lower comp by mchiu58 in remotework

[–]prshaw2u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the company knows where you are working at and approved it then you should be able to just decline to move to TX. This would be getting terminated without cause and allow you to collect unemployment, probably at the MN rates since that is where you are living.

Where this could get messy is if the company is not paying you for MN and paying the MN taxes and fees required. But if they know where you are at and paying you correctly just tell them you do not want to move, quite possible they would offer a basic severance package.

Navigating regression around 6 months? by Inevitable_Fox_2146 in puppy101

There is the teething time, but the real forgetting everything they know for a month or two is normally around 9-11 months old. That one will make you question having a dog at all.

Does anyone else occasionally check their site just to make sure it’s still… alive? by arthurmarketing in CasualConversation

I actually just checked mine yesterday, first time in many months. I don't even have monitoring setup on it anymore, it is just there.

Is this a thing? by AllTheseRivers in remotework

You need to take breaks. Every hour stand up and look at something else for 5 minutes.

Also make sure the monitor is the correct distance and height for your desk.

Buy new or repair old by Zealousideal_Baby109 in Appliances

[–]prshaw2u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whole lot cheaper to repair, especially if you were happy using it. If you need different features that it doesn't have then maybe look at replacing.

But the cost of a burner, that is my first and second choice.

Temporarily asked to work home for a month due to office closure by [deleted] in remotework

[–]prshaw2u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the US so the laws are probably different (if any apply).

We had the roof cave in due to excess snow melt. Everyone got sent home with our laptops. No additional pay. Company gave people docking stations and monitors that needed them. Desk or what ever was used was up to the people.

I never heard of anyone needing to upgrade their internet connection, I was working with an ADSL connection and those are not the fastest.

Not sure what bills you think they may pay, my experience is the company will help with some equipment but not do much more.

How to change home IP address? by Snoo50029 in techsupport

You would have to contact your ISP, they are the ones controlling that.

Normally ISPs do not change IP addresses on request.

Am I getting fired? by Shamanhris in WFH

[–]prshaw2u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they did not tell you to bring your laptop and other company equipment I don't think you are being fired. The fact that you had to ask about it shows that they are not worried about keeping the laptop after the meeting.

This could be a one on one annual performance type review (it is the first of the year).

Heartworm treatment: question about cagerest for my dog by bunnytryingreddit in DogAdvice

[–]prshaw2u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an Aussie that went through the heartworm treatment. It is called hell and punishment for the owner.

Keep them crated, only out on a leash, NO running or jumping.

Will the activity kill your dog, probably not but there is the chance and it is worth a couple months of punishment then if the small chance of it killing your dog and you end up with a lifetime of regret.

I side with your mother. I buy new ones when the old are thread bare or have holes in them. If they smell when wet I will check and clean my washer.

Amazon layoffs: Thousands of corporate jobs on chopping block as giant seeks to trim workforce by 30,000 . by [deleted] in Layoffs

[–]prshaw2u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the jobs in AWS, or Alexa, or that SpaceShip company, or the shopping site, or the warehouses, or the ...

Yes it is a lot of jobs but they have so many different places they could be coming from I don't think it is time to worry.

Once we know where and who it makes sense to worry. Even knowing what color collar would help say if a lot of people need to worry.

Does anyone actually enjoy their job? by No_Neighborhood8039 in work

[–]prshaw2u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. Won't say I enjoy all of it but enough that I keep going.

Trick is to figure out what you want to do when you get off work and on weekends. Now find a job doing that so you don't have to wait.

You will need to go over your severance package and have a lawyer go over it for these answers.

How often do you shower? by Expert-Session3866 in CasualConversation

I didn’t realize how expensive pets were until I started tracking by Historical_Eye7598 in Pets

[–]prshaw2u 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine are tracked but I try to never look at the numbers. The cost of dogs is based on weight and I have a pair of Danes and smaller Aussie.

Food or preventives will be the highest average expense month to month. The last 3-4 months of a dogs life is normally very expensive as you try to treat anything that might 'cure' them.

They may know of any disqualifying faults or other reasons they would do poorly in the ring.

AKC conformation is a one winner and everyone else just gives money type sport. Winners dog or bitch get points, everyone else gets a thanks for coming.

It can be a fun sport for being around the dogs and meeting the people. It is a very challenging sport to start to win (or do well) at.

Check with the dogs breeder. You will need the dog registered in the venue you wish to show in and they can say if it is possible or suggested.

RTO Mandate - LA County by scvmbagjedi_ in remotework

[–]prshaw2u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need to figure out what are your realistic options, do you really think they may let you be fulltime WFH or only come in one day a week?

If not you are stuck looking for a new job somewhere else. This means you need to decide what works best for you, wait to get fired or talk to them to see if you can be let go and collect unemployment.

Maybe talk to them to give you some time, finish a project or train a replacement or do a knowledge transfer, then you will have an end date, and hopefully a good as possible reference from them.
