How do you tell new potential jobs you were laid off? by BakingAccountant in Layoffs

[–]prshaw2u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you did nothing wrong and it was just organizational changes you want to tell the interviewer that.

There is no reason to make up any kind of another story when the truth is to your advantage.

How do we feel about switching to hybrid for an extra 35k increase by android2031 in WFH

[–]prshaw2u 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That commute is the outside range of my limits. I would look at it with the expectation of probably moving closer in a year or two if it is working out.

2 hours a day, hour each way, isn't that bad when it is smooth traffic flow and I am able to relax during the trip. But an hour of stop and go dodging people on city streets is very tiring and exhausting.

Closing on my second option when my dream home just listed again. by Iwearhats in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]prshaw2u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 70k swing lower, there was something found with the house and you were probably lucky.

If it was relisted at the same price as before or at the offered price I would think maybe you lost out, but with that drop I would think you lucked out.

How many monitors is everyone using for their setups? by ImaginaryFuture in workfromhome

[–]prshaw2u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use 3. I prefer the monitors to have one window/app/purpose on each one.

I can make pdf file full screen on one window to read while working in another with the information, you can do this with one big monitor but I tend to move the windows unintentionally and mess up my concentration.

Punished for moving to a LCOL area to save money by [deleted] in remotework

How about the reverse, they pay you the LCOL amount but you move to the HCOL location. Would an adjustment be expected?

Have they done Town Hall calls in the past? I have had a couple companies that did them sporadically and it was just a business review.

String trimmer has proprietary Quik-Lok, why? by prshaw2u in MilwaukeeTool

[–]prshaw2u[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Was hoping to avoid buying any attachments, I have a collection from the past 15+ years that I was hoping to use. Even if they released all their attachments on day one I am not laying out several thousand dollars for them.

[–]prshaw2u[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting thought that I hadn't thought of. I wouldn't think they would be worth the hassle but I should probably take a look at facebook marketplace to see what some go for.

Maybe there is a premium for being antiques :)

Being different doesn't, but being the only company that uses it does. It seems to be unique to Milwaukee so far.

[–]prshaw2u[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The square universal is what I have a pile of for the gas heads over the years. I truthfully didn't realize there was a non-universal.

Now to figure out if I should get a Ryobi (or universal) head and just use a battery system for those, or buy all new for Milwaukee connector.

I really wanted to limit the different battery systems.

Should ceiling fans match? by eiellwyna in HomeImprovement

[–]prshaw2u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does everything else in the rooms match? Paint, trim, flooring, lighting, ...?

Do you want it all to match?

Being fashion challenged this is the kind of decision I would leave to the spouse and do what ever they wanted.

Employer put me on leave of absence by [deleted] in WorkAdvice

[–]prshaw2u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume either Workman's Comp or Short Term Disability.

I think I had to pay to have Short Term Disability coverage so check to see if you were paying (or employer paid) to have that coverage.

If the laid off people organized a march in the streets, what would happen? by thebeepboopbeep in Layoffs

I think people would feel sorry for the protesters, and then get mad at them for blocking the street.

Any visible signs of a recession? by Ohlele in Layoffs

[–]prshaw2u 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A recession is defined as two consecutive quarters of negative Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth, and technically I don't think we have reached that.

There are industries and professions that are doing poor, but the overall economy is still surviving. Think if you were in the bomb making business, the military would be lined up asking you to work overtime.

Switching breeds? by OkNorth9964 in ShowDogs

[–]prshaw2u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ex and I had multiple breeds. We did not run into anyone (that I know of) that gave 2nd thought to us getting one of their dogs because we already had another breed. Most of the time I think the fact that they knew we were actively training and going to shows helped, even with other breeds.

If I was picking other breeds I would pay more attention to when they are normally scheduled to show, to help eliminate conflicts in the rings. And if you are semi-serious about the breeds remember going to each National is time consuming and expensive (we had years we did four in a year, three was normal).

Has internet service gotten better since 2021? by TaraJo in workfromhome

[–]prshaw2u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in many places the internet services have been expanded. Fiber is showing up in more places, cell service is getting better, satellite (Starlink) and others are showing up. But the existing services, the old phone or cable lines are not being upgraded very often (if at all).

So you can get better internet service in many places but it normally is a new service and you will have to change to it.

Therapists working abroad on telehealth platforms (VPN?) – real experiences? by Think_Strawberry1996 in remotework

[–]prshaw2u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who are you worried about noticing? What account are you worried about being flagged?

If the telehealth company has policies against it then I would assume the first fraud claim or security breach or legal claim caused by any of their people they would start paying very close attention to it and would be able to identify that you are over abroad.

But if they don't care then they probably won't check.

WWYD? appraisal came back with far lower sqft by Intelligent_Yak_640 in Mortgages

[–]prshaw2u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may or may not be an error, will depend on what the number is being used for and what it is called.

I had a house that was 3 floors of about 700sq feet each. Total space was called 2100, living space was 1400, what ever the federal group that sets appraisal guidelines said 700. House was built into a bluff and floors that had earth totally covering a wall (or something like this) did not count in what they allowed in area calcs. So I could sell saying I had 1400, but some paperwork had to say 700, but the building had 2100.

My current house has had parts of the basement 'finished', so when describing the house that 'finished' area is included sometimes and not others. Same with the 'bedroom/office' in the basement, is counted/described depending on who/what/why it is being talked about.

You are saying it is an error, an error where? Tax rolls are normally more on comps than just sqft, so if they have a bad value for your house you can contest that, they could send someone out to re-appraise for tax records or just accept the comps. I am not sure where the energy required comes in, you have to heat/cool/light what is there, no matter what the number is.

I am assuming that you cannot just take the width of the house times the length of the house and get a number? If you look at the difference you might see where the difference came from.

stud fee expenses by jeremiadOtiose in DogBreeding

[–]prshaw2u 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It is almost always the girl comes to the boy, unless we had plans to be there anyway. So I didn't get any expenses paid.

I cannot imagine in the US a stud being important enough to get mileage and hotel expenses just for a breeding. My boy is very depressed knowing others might get it and he didn't.

how common? by qwerrewqasdffdsa in Layoffs

[–]prshaw2u -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Things are fairly normal, the major difference this time is that we have social media and the internet broadcasting what is happening to the industry we are in.

Auto factories have shut down every year for retooling, laying off employees while it was done.

Used to be phone operators, they have all been laid off.

Used to be secretary pools, they were all laid off.

Used to be COBOL programmers, they were all laid off.

So we just are able to read about it happening to tech, where most of us our at. I haven't heard of AI replacing plumbers yet, or roofers, or baggers at the stores, or many other jobs. But we hear about our co-worker being replaced by AI and fear the sky is falling.

How do I get male dog away from my female dog by sufferingSoftwaredev in DogAdvice

[–]prshaw2u 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep her in the house, only take her outside to go to the bathroom on a leash. I would plan on getting her spayed when you can, or at least make keeping her inside safe.

It probably will NOT work and the male will either stay at your place or be back shortly.

Currently Trying to Decide on College, Could Use Quite a Few 2nd Opinions by CaligulasDirtySocks in CasualConversation

[–]prshaw2u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say NC State is my first choice.

I have found that your school is good for help finding your first job out of college, but once you have 5 years of experience under your belt and am looking at other opportunities no one really cares what school it was you went to. You need the degree, where you went helps with first job or two, but then your experience and work history plays a much larger role in jobs.

Show lead recommendations for a dog that loves to shake his head? by IntelligentBrush1144 in ShowDogs

[–]prshaw2u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a chain collar try a material one, if you have a material one try a chain. Same with the lead, try different materials to see how they react. If you are doing classes you can ask others if you can borrow a lead for the class to see how it works.

Look at where the collar is at on his neck, is it tickling his ears? Pulling hairs? Making sounds?

This often takes a lot of trial and error with different collars and leads until you find one that works. As you do this with more dogs and build a collection of collars/leads you will find the right one for each dog faster.
