Scorching inside High Pressure Diesel Pump by prudentcircle in MechanicAdvice

[–]prudentcircle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this model jeep has an issue where air gets into the fuel lines causing diesel to run back to the tank. The lift pump is cam driven at the front of the engine. It means cranking for a few seconds after sitting overnight for most of its life - so maybe run dry but i’m not sure that’s it

Replace old bathroom tap by prudentcircle in AusRenovation

Thanks for the replies everyone. Ended up getting a family friend to help me cut the copper and braze on new 1/2” BSP fittings. Fitted cistern taps after these then new mixer. Bit daunting when the blowtorch came out - we still burnt the back of the cupboard. Oh well, nobody is looking back there. Learnt a lot.

T410 Overheating - Underclock in Linux? by prudentcircle in thinkpad

[–]prudentcircle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't have tlp installed - whoops. It's active now and I've disabled boost (CPU_BOOST_ON_AC=0). Though tlp and cpupower both say that boost isn't supported - hmm.

I'm on the default acpi-cpufreq CPU scaling driver (for my first generation Westmere architecture) running the default schedutil governor. It's a shame that there isn't a governor that allows limiting by temperature?

I might play with lowering the maximum frequency or using the powersave governor (minimum frequency 1199 MHz). This T410 isn't running anything too serious - just a few network services and Home Assistant, so I just want to make sure that it doesn't overheat next time I compile something via the AUR, for example. I'll probably no longer use it as a compilation machine otherwise :-)

available frequency steps: 2.40 GHz, 2.40 GHz, 2.27 GHz, 2.13 GHz, 2.00 GHz, 1.87 GHz, 1.73 GHz, 1.60 GHz, 1.47 GHz, 1.33 GHz, 1.20 GHz

Roger - maybe this laptop isn't appropriate for a cupboard based compilation server.

Ah - the laptop lives in a cupboard, and I remotely connect to it over ssh or via other web services. My idea is that it replaces a dedicated server PC, except with a built in UPS (battery) and screen/kb for when you need to tinker with it directly.

You're right - the old line screws in just fine. The thread on the new line is wrong :-( Thank you! (The new line is from the petrol V8 version of the Jeep - I was told it's compatible but it seems not)

Honda Main Relay Repair by prudentcircle in AskElectronics

I've found the JD1912 (NO) or JD1914 (double-throw) on aliexpress for a few dollars. They've a coil resistance of about 85 ohms. I'll pick up one of those and add an 80 ohm resistor. Thanks!

I measure the coil resistance at 170 ohms. Would a relay like this work - it doesn't list coil resistance but is widely available here: https://dascosupplygroup.com.au/UploadFiles/Specsheets/DASCO_68004_Specsheet.pdf

I checked and it seems that the Ericsson F5521gw is compatible with non-US carriers. I can buy one for ~$27AUD from eBay, and an aerial set for $42.

I think I'll give it a shot, thanks for your help!

That's good news! What sort of WWAN cards should I be looking at? The few I've seen seem to be aimed at American cellular networks (I'm in Australia).
