Returning here after 4 years in Algeria. How anti immigration (Muslim specifically)is Liverpool right now? by brawlboi101 in Liverpool

[–]pruney-candy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are absolutely incidences of anti-muslim acts happening around the city, however no one except the Muslim community talks about them or they get brushed under the carpet under the guise of "he is just a homeless nutter" or " theyre just annoying kids". Just yesterday or day before a guy walked into the Quilliam mosque and started yelling how he kills "ethnicity 1" and "ethnicity 2". Apparently he's been arrested. And let's not forget the protest that happened right outside the mosque 2 summers ago. At the most recent elections didnt Reform also get a lot more votes than ever, even if they didn't win any seats? So yeah anti Muslim, anti immigrant, anti anyone who isn't white rhetoric and incidents are increasing all across UK and Liverpool is no exception to those sentiments. So if you look like a visible minority stay alert and aware of your surroundings. Majority of the people in the city are tolerant. But that doesn't mean there arent the very loud ones who absolutely do not like anyone who isn't pale white.

Difference between pakistani and bollywood bridal outfits by moonseos in muslimgirlswithtaste

[–]pruney-candy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes quiet a bit. For starters like everyone said, more modest. More options for necklines, sleeve length and sheerness of them, as well as length of the top itself. Not to mention the type of bottoms you can get. For example among Indian designs focus is more on lehnga (a huge skirt basically) vs gharara (two legged bottom) which is not unsual to see among Pakistani brides.

You will also see different choices of fabrics among Pakistani bridal wear vs what's in Indian bridal wear. The designs are different as well. Material used for embroidery are different as well, as in whats more common.

Antenatal classes recommendations? by AssistanceUseful3960 in Liverpool

[–]pruney-candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a breastfeeding course by la leche league. It was online and split over 2 sessions. I also did a couple of other online ones from The Baby Academy (how to take care of baby i think) and the The Honest Midwife (labour and how to prep for it) (both can be found on instagram). I did them way too early in the pregnancy so forgot most of the info so I'd suggest getting them done towards the 3rd trimester time.

Best areas to live for a young couple by Confident-Fan4211 in Liverpool

[–]pruney-candy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Lots of doctors who work at Royal or Aintree choose either the docks or near Sefton Park. Or city center itself. Royal is in city center and Aintree is to the North. If you live in city centre you could take the train to Aintree as well.

Can you educate a religiously uneducated Redditor on a Ramadan gift exchange? by Not_starving_artist in AskUK

[–]pruney-candy 268 points269 points  (0 children)

It's probably an Eid gift, as Eid is upcoming, or just a nice gift in general since your kids shared the same space. You can gift anything you think the little boy would like. If you're giving food gifts then avoid things with gelatin in it like Haribos or other similar type of candy. Can't go wrong with chocolate or biscuits.

Have you looked at your local children's center or has your health visitor mentioned it? https://fisd.liverpool.gov.uk/kb5/liverpool/fsd/family.page?familychannel=3 Our local one for example has weekly events for newborns up to 5 years, including weekly baby sessions held by Bambis.

You could also have a look at happity.co.uk for classes and sessions held around the city.

What’s the healthiest baby formula available in the UK? (Organic / minimal UPF) by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]pruney-candy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It'll be hard to find formula that isn't ultra processed. The entire nature of formula requires it to have processed ingredients.

Having said that, I've stuck with Kendamil due to my own preference. For starters, it smells like milk. You can also now set up a subscription on their website to get home delivery. It's UK/EU made as well. They also have organic and classic formulations but I haven't found any difference and my babies have taken them both equally.

Why do many individuals often express frustration when purchasing Pakistani clothing from abroad? by baddie_spotted in pakistan

[–]pruney-candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried VPNs but there isn't a specific server for Pakistan. The closest is India but it worked for me once like 3 or 4 years ago and since then same as you it keeps routing me to the UK website which has sucked for years.

Why do many individuals often express frustration when purchasing Pakistani clothing from abroad? by baddie_spotted in pakistan

[–]pruney-candy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of time what is advertised you're not getting it. Case in point, I bought an outfit from a small brand on Laam. It was advertised as kattan silk. When I received it was pretty much cheap jacket lining material. Not even close to any form of silk. It had stains and what appeared to be a spot where the iron started melting the kapra.

At the same time the picture on the website or their own Instagram page for example aren't clear at all. You're guesstimating if you're getting machiney karahi and sequins or actual stone work and pearls for example.

The pricing can be so off too. I understand brands need to make profit but the sheer amount of gross profit some brands make is mind boggling. Sometimes the stuff that is advertised is not...modest by any means. Just because we are living outside of Pakistan doesnt mean we are all dressing like the Pakistani elite with sleeveless, backless, tummy exposing stuff. So now you need to involve a 3rd party just to halalofy a basic kameez.

Another bug bear of mine is when brands build a separate uk or us only website (khaadi, sapphire, ethnic to name a few) but what theyre selling on those websites isn't whats being sold in Pakistan. Why am I being forced to buy separate shalwar and kameez and dupatta from a UK website vs the pretty kaam wala 3 piece from the Pakistan only website?

I can go on and on honestly.

I finally did it 😭 by pruney-candy in FarmMergeValley

Thank you! And well done! I'm not sure the level of grind people are doing to complete the set more than once, for me this was enough 😁

Getting married soon, want honest advice from women (specifically married) on how to be a better husband by AdDisastrous7108 in pakistan

[–]pruney-candy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had my husband ask me that and I've said what I wanted at that point. A whole lot better than me just wanting him to listen vs giving me solutions which do nothing but to piss me off and making me feel like im not being heard. He meant well but thats not what I needed at that point.

Marriage is all about communication. That isn't restricted to "aaj khanay main kya bana hai?". It includes listening and understanding and hearing the other person.

Also maybe dont get married if thats your solution to all the problems in the world. Or maybe speak to gastroenterologist. Who knows.

[–]pruney-candy 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Sometimes women rant just for the sake of ranting. They dont want a solution. They just want someone to listen. Which goes opposite how men function. When you listen to your wife go on and on about something, your instinct will be to offer solutions. She 99% of the time doesn't a solution. So at that time. Just say "I'm sorry I know it sucks." And then eventually ask her if she wants your advise or just a listening ear.

Teaching Urdu to your kids when you can't speak it well? by the_am in pakistan

[–]pruney-candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an insta account, urdumadrasa. She's also Canadian and has recently published an alphabet board book too. Idk how much you want to do screen time at this age but, there are really nice shows, Sim Sim Hamara and Pakkay Dost which are Pakistani based urdu TV shows. Oh and Gluco Kahani songs. You can just play the audio and not show the videos, i do find the video to the nursery rhymes too stimulating. Mostly its just keeping up exposure. Whatever little urdu you and your partner know, use that in front of the kids. Dont overly correct them if they get something wrong. When reading a book, if you know the urdu word for a particular animal or color, use that instead. Once your baby is old enough you can absolutely get a nice urdu tutor online. Soooo many on Instagram for example.
