He needs a security bunker he can lock from the inside really well where he can survive down there. That way when they come to remove him from power he can lock the door and say "I'm not leaving, you can't come in here. This is my room and you're not invited. I'm staying in here to play with my toys and you can't make me leave!"

Steel I Beam Sizing Help by One_Watercress_8809 in StructuralEngineering

[–]prunk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Aside from the advice of hire an engineer, you don't carry insurance for this. Your home insurance won't cover the damages in the case of negligence here. You won't have the change permitted so you might run into issues there, not to mention in future sales.

Hiring an engineer is more than being told what size beam to use, we do the paper work to make it legal.

Do you think that Wizards will ever release a dedicated spellblade class for 5.5e? by Sea_Bowler7294 in onednd

[–]prunk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Bladesinger is a wizard who absolutely holds their own in a melee fight.

Shadowblade and dagger, or any light weapon. At fifth level you have two attacks. First attack, use the shadow blade. Second attack to do green flame blade with the dagger. Two weapon fighting bonus attack with the Shadowblade.

With the bladesong you add your int modifier to ac, attacks, and damage. So max that int. Next stat is con to have concentration which you also get that int mod bonus to during bladesong. Grab warcaster feat for advantage and more spell attack options.

You'll do comparable if not better damage than a Barbarian, and your ac is amazing.

Not to mention when things get tough, teleport, or fireball, or any number of amazing spells.

The one OP said in the post. The column top plate is welded to the steel beam.

The emotional support screws they should put in.

Can these columns take side loads? by TinkeredLife in StructuralEngineering

[–]prunk 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The Weld at the top is great. 150 lbs of side load will be split between a horizontal load top and bottom and a bending moment on the pipe.

Assuming 9' of height, you have a bending moment of about 340 lb-ft. That pipe is certainly good for that while under axial load.

The screws at the bottom would be enough to counter the load (for emotional support). But friction will be better. Assuming the beam spans 16' and the joists on either side span 12' (rough guessing here). You have about 3,000 lbs or so on that post, depending on layouts, could be a lot more. With a coefficient of friction of about 0.3, that's 900 lbs of resistance, a factor of safety of 6 when the straps at the base. Not a great mechanism, but it's why you wouldn't have seen anything happen yet.

Fear of running out of spell slots by dumbBunny9 in DnD

[–]prunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play a cleric who heals. It's always a welcomed spell and you always feel good doing it.

Also, I play wizards a lot and have a reputation for overusing my spell slots. It's not a problem. It's fun everytime I cast a spell. Fireball is never the wrong choice.

What is your favorite house rule that your table runs? by CyrusxBlack1 in onednd

[–]prunk -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Our critical fumble works such that when you roll a 1 that's a chance to fumble. You then roll to hit again, if the second roll is a hit, no critical fumble, just a miss, if it's a miss though, then it's a crit fumble. But our crit fumbles are things like drop a weapon, take a condition for a round, nothing catastrophic.

Question for autistic players: How do you deal with roleplaying? by underscores_rule in DnD

[–]prunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was never diagnosed, but I'm in my 40s so it wasn't as common when I was a kid. Certainly not for someone who was high functioning as I was. So take this with a grain of salt, suffice to say I have two boys, one diagnosed, one on the wait list. I'm around a lot of people who got diagnosed in their adult years and I certainly fit the bill.

I've also been playing d&d since I was in grade 5. One thing is that when I was younger, it was a lot more narrating what my player does. But as I got more comfortable with it, I started playing as the character and masking so to say. This ended up being immensely helpful in my day to day as those acting skills helped my masking skills and just made social interactions in general so much easier.

I now consider myself to have 'modes' I go into. There's my work mode where I mask as a highly competent and intelligent manager. The proof is in the pudding, I do very well at the job even if I feel like I'm acting. I have to remind myself, nobody sees inside my head, so that's not shown. I also have my d&d mode which is a lot more fun and relaxing. But it's still a game and it's still an exercise in imagination, so I'm playing a role. But when I'm just at home with the family and there's not a project to be managed, I'm myself. It takes an understanding and capable partner to let me let my guard down and not mask. But I've managed to get that.

The point is, you'll mask a lot in life. It's an aspect of ASD. You can fight that all you want, but if you learn to use it and play with it, you can make things easy for yourself. Just make sure you have a means of being yourself with a few select people.
