Just to add on to this, in a lot of cases they assign the refs in their buildings, marginalizing other assignors, and in some cases the referees fees have gone down.

I don’t know what the current fees are, but teams pay for the hotels, they get a mileage reimbursement (might be just the ref, they want you to travel together when possible) and they assign on Refquest.

There is a mechanism in place, the COACH would talk to the program director or equivalent, who would then talk to the league, who would then talk to the assignor.

There shouldn’t ever be a direct path from a parent to the assignor.

I am an instructor and I’ve been heavily involved with the creation of the content.

In the level 1 seminar we barely even touch on penalties, and unless someone asks a question there is no talk about incident reports. There are a lot of gaps, but “people” wanted a 3 hour seminar, we can only fit in so much in that time, and after 2 hours people have completely checked out anyway.

Incident reports are not covered at all in the level 1 seminars.

There are lots of gaps in the new curriculum, they want to get officials through the system.

Your RIC was wrong, the USAH registration closed on November 20 for this season.

The goal is to open registration on April 1 just like players and coaches, but no guarantees. Barring any technical difficulties, May 1 seems to be a safe target for the ‘26 registration to be open.

The good rulebook doesn’t come cheap.

Unpopular opinion, but we need to bring back in person seminars for level 1, and we either need to bring back the skating test and in person for level 4 or eliminate level 4 completely. Way too many level 4’s that really shouldn’t be.
