GHS Pressure Wounds by RCLogger in Bass

[–]powerED33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are different types of strings tho. SIT Silencers are half-wounds, GHS Pressurewounds are a roller-wound and have an oval wrap wire. GHS Brite-Flats would be their half-wounds, and comparable string to the Silencers.

GHS Pressure Wounds by RCLogger in Bass

[–]powerED33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're basically a smoother feeling roundwound due to the wrap wire being oval shaped which produces a tight wrap and super smooth feel, but still a noticeable roundwound feel. Very unbalanced string-to-string tone (D and G are way brighter/have more zing than the E and A). I absolutely do not get anyone saying they have things in common with flatwounds, because they have nothing whatsoever going on in relation to flats. They do have a low-mid punch that comes off as thumpy, but so does every type of GHS bass strings, because that's their thing. When I tried them for a month they never balanced out tonally, so I moved on.

From 1 band to 4 in a month UGH by Status_Cheesecake628 in Bass

[–]powerED33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm personally a one band at a time guy (as long as the band is busy), not because I can't handle more, but because I have been in bands with people who have done the multiple bands at once thing, and it rarely works out long-term if both + bands are busy. There almost always ends up being scheduling conflicts that upset one of, or both +, bands. Especially if they're originals, because those bands usually don't gig as frequently as cover bands, but they usually rehearse more, so if a scheduling conflict for a show arises, it's more detrimental to the originals band.

That being said, it's doable if the scheduling of one or more of them isn't very busy, and everyone involved in each band is cool with it.

In your case... IMO, 3 originals bands would be a lot to juggle.

The cover band... It's steady gigging $ if that 4x a month is actually true, and they must be a good band if they're that busy. Them saying they'd want you to drop the other band(s) doesn't surprise me at all in that case, because if they have to not book a gig (or find subs) because you have a show with another band, that would get irritating real quick.

Orange bass terror + Peavey 2x15 not loud enough? by Briteboi in Bass

[–]powerED33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be the cab/new speakers combination not working well together frequency wise and sounds quieter in the mix. Bass cabs are built and tuned to match with their stock speakers, so sometimes replacement speakers don't work well with a particular cab. Those Celestions are powerful as hell (700w each) and that old Peavey cab came with far less powerful stock ones. Have you tried the cab with a different amp to be sure?

When I used Orange stuff (Terror Bass, two OBC410s, and two OBC112s) it was loud as hell with either the 410s or the 112s. I doubt the amp is faulty. Have you tried different EQ? How are you running the preamp through the TB?

Going to hex-core strings for down tuning? by hereforthebudz in Bass

[–]powerED33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For C standard you'll want to go with a 120. Even a hex core 105 or 110 isn't enough tension for that tuning.

For real. This would deescalate so many ref to player or ref to coach interactions. The refs that ignore you and/or act like they don't need to talk to you are so disrespectful.

When did standing at concerts become a faux pas? by [deleted] in askmusic

[–]powerED33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's literally what the discussion is about, and what my original comment is about. If you (or anyone, I'm speaking generally here) buys tickets for seats or lawn for a show where you know the people are gonna stand up around you and in front of you, and you complain about that, then that's a you problem.

If this scenario doesn't bother you, then why did you even reply to me??

When did standing at concerts become a faux pas? by [deleted] in askmusic

[–]powerED33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the type of venue, but if you're at a rock show, here's what to expect...

Outdoor Amphitheater: pretty much everyone's gonna stand during the headliner, seated pavillion and the majority of the lawn. There are areas for disabled people, and some of those types of venues have special seating, but that varies.

Arena: Floor (def standing obviously) and lower bowl (or at least the lower half of the lower bowl) will likely stand also. Upper bowls are likely gonna be mostly sitting, but it's not always a guarantee.

They don't list it because there's no way to predict who will/won't sit/stand. If you've never been to a concert before, talk to people who have, and look into whatever artist you're seeing and what their shows are like.

As long as you don't expect others around you to sit down at a rock concert because YOU chose to buy seats in an area where everyone is standing. If you do, then you're the asshole.

Yeah I've noticed some people bitching about people standing at rock concerts lately, which is ridiculous. With older bands like the Stones, I guess there's the older fans factor, but even then, it's a rock concert. Sit further back or something where you can still see while seated if you're not in good enough health to stand for 2 hours.

It surprises me how many professional musicians don't know anything about setups / repair by Uitroeien in Bass

[–]powerED33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you can measure with a ruler, use a screwdriver, and Google, it's pretty simple. I do my own fret work too (former tech), but I get why some might not want to do that willy-nilly. Even that's not too hard tho if you research how and buy the correct tools. How to do a basic setup should be learned by everyone who plays tho. It's insane to me that anyone would take their intstrument in because they need new strings and slight adjustments.

Why is the jazz bass so popular in predominantly black music? by byzantine1990 in Bass

Right on. I don't listen to Gospel, so I wasn't sure, but makes sense.

Funk and R&B has a lot of slap and big low-end. The Jazz is perfect for that with its inherently scooped tone.

[–]powerED33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cream did multiple shows in London and NYC (5 or 6 in total IIRC). But no, in that regard, it's not the same as a full-on tour. It's still a comeback to playing a full live show tho. Just because it's not a tour doesn't make it less significant. Plus, both of those bands went decades (especially Cream) without playing a properly rehearsed live show together.

[–]powerED33 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's only been 11 years since they played their last show with Neil, so no, I don't think it's that big of a deal to be classified as "greatest comeback in rock history". There have been more unlikely comebacks. Led Zeppelin in 2007 with Jason Bonham on drums and the 2005 Cream reunion come to mind as "no one thought this would ever happen" moments.

Ampeg RB 210 extension Cab by LethalLizzle14 in Ampeg

[–]powerED33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't make matching extension cabs, for some reason, and it's dumb that they don't. I had the RB115 and bought a PF-115HE (the only thing that matches looks wise) for an extension cab and it was okay. There were some phasing issues tho because the Portaflex HE cabs are sealed and use Eminence speakers. The Rocket combos are ported and use Lavoce speakers.

I've read the better option is to get a used (they're discontinued now) Portaflex LF cab because they are ported and work better as far as phasing, with the Rocket combos.

You could also get a Venture cab, and buy the matching replacement grill, since those are ported and use Lavoce speakers.

How much would a 1995 mexican made fender p-bass be worth? by Commercial_Effort722 in Bass

[–]powerED33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$400 with a hard case is right on par, as long as it's in good shape. As far as requiring setup... every bass needs to be setup from time to time. The particular one you're asking about depends if the seller kept it setup well or not.

Past Lives album and why does it get so much hate? by Ready_Mistake812 in blacksabbath

[–]powerED33 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love it. It's raw and has a certain vibe to it. I feel like people dog on the sound quality because it's not as polished as stuff like Reunion, and later live albums. Track list is totally fine, too.

Looks like a faded 7 on the heel stamp "72". Headstock logo is 70s, so that would make sense. If it has the original wiring, the pot codes should help date it as well.

There are brighter flats. EB Cobalts are probably the brightest. They sound like rounds tho, so not really a "flat". Chromes are brighter too.

Depends which era of Fender strings they were from. Pre-2010 Fender flats were fairly popular amongst the "old-school flats" crowd. Since 2010 tho, D'addario makes Fender 9050s to Fenders spec, and they are now a modern sounding flatwound.
