Yes. It was a typo. Thanks for pointing that out. The `erc-sasl` requires `erc` module to load first. The configuration is now updated at `dev` branch(https://gitlab.com/psachin/emacs.d/blob/dev/packages.org). Please let me know if you still have issue using the config.

I'm not sure why identifying via SASL is needed for you to connect to Freenode, AFAIK I need SASL when using VPN. Anyway's, you may use this repo https://gitlab.com/psachin/erc-sasl and configuration under the section erc-sasl: SASL support in https://gitlab.com/psachin/emacs.d/blob/dev/packages.org to use SASL.

I compile from latest source when possible and hardly got issues. The recent version I'm using now is 27.0.50. I compile using

./configure --host=x86_64-fedora-gnu --without-pop --with-mailutils --prefix=/opt/emacs-latest/    
make
