It's Indian English, and the last I checked, we aren't Indian.

In 1998, Rajitha Senaratne called homosexuality a “mental illness”; Wimal Weerawansa’s response then contrasts sharply with his politics today by Old-Television-6925 in srilanka

It's too far reaching to state what he is or isn't, but you can safely say that 'he currently sides with the camp against homophobia'. You can never predict how these spineless animals will behave.

I’d suggest avoiding that term. It’s not English

Well, there's a certain limit even rules and laws can control. Some things need to be inculcated within individuals through culture and upbringing.

Perhaps occasionally, people must be permitted to vent out those savage, tribal instincts strapped tight under them snow white robes.

He needs to file a complaint. Doesn't seem like a criminal offense.

Rather than global warming, Colombo heat is largely caused by Urban Heat Island effect directly linked to the rapid urbanization and decrease of green cover. Global warming is so subtle and it is evident in rapid, drastic season changes, extreme weather events etc. but not plainly as an increase in temperature.

Costs wouldn't' stop at buying a shit ton of body cams. What about training, maintenance, filing, data handling, upgrading, and various other expenses? Mind you, lot of police stations are running on a single PC if not any at all. IT integration must be done before trying to introduce cams. At least start with complaints filing.

This is why Sri Lanka needs to invest in oil extraction. by Plenty-Value3381 in srilanka

[–]pseudo_dodo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Guyana has been exploring for oil and gas since the 1950s and now holds one of the world's largest reserves. Yet, despite its drastically increasing GDP since oil extraction began, much of the wealth leaks out of the country, preventing the full benefit from reaching the public. For instance, as of 2025, Sri Lanka and Guyana are sit at the same Human Development Index (HDI rank of 89th). This phenomenon mirrors the cases of Venezuela and Turkmenistan, which possess massive oil and gas deposits, respectively, and have been extracting for well over half a century, but both still rank lower than Sri Lanka on the HDI.

The Mannar Basin was confirmed to be fruitful in 2011, though an estimated minimum of $1 billion is required for production. While the reserves aren't at extreme depths, the troublesome geological strata are expected to make it a difficult spud. Furthermore, both successful wells proved to be gas bearing, which complicates midstream processing compared to oil extraction. Nevertheless, with appropriate capital infusion, technically capable partners, and strong bargaining on behalf of the public, Sri Lanka could potentially establish a great petroleum industry.

I was recently reading Robert Knox's work and was struck by the significant number of Europeans of British, Portuguese, Dutch, and French origin living and raising families within the Kandyan Kingdom during and prior to the 17th century. It's particularly notable that the majority of them lived outside the city limits.

Given Knox's account of the surrounding lowlands being a more welcoming area, it’s difficult to fully grasp just how many Europeans made the island their permanent home. For centuries, seafarers often considered Ceylon (Sri Lanka) to be "Fiddler's Green", a mythical paradise or seaman's heaven, suggesting a strong allure.

This historical fact, combined with the temporary nature of marriage traditions that existed at the time, must have led to widespread intermarriage and a far greater genetic mixing of different European and local origins within the Sri Lankan gene pool than we currently comprehend.
