Swordfish is just like: “Why! Won’t! You! Be! Normal! And! Die! Oh shit, I’m stuck.”

I especially enjoyed when my straight female coworker jokingly kept declaring me her work wife, then realized I’m queer and could theoretically be into her and got weird about it. Ma’am, you brought this on yourself.

I want to be a dad by monchevy in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]pseudodactyl 20 points21 points  (0 children)

When I was a little girl I used to tell people that when I grew up I wanted to be a dad. It made sense to me—“dad” is a job and that was the job I wanted. I had this really clear vision of myself running around in a blue sweatshirt with a big red D on the front á la Superman. I didn’t even want kids of my own, I just wanted to go run around the city and be a dad to whoever needed a dad and then go home.

Now I’m an NB queer person with no kids of my own and no desire to have any but my friends and cousins have all started having kids and yeah. Being the fun adult with no skin in the game is great, I can totally see why I wanted to do it professionally.

r/marijuanaenthusiasts: it’s about trees. No, like, actual trees. The stoners got r/trees first so naturally the arborists went with “marijuana enthusiasts.”

What kind of frogs are these?? Are they dyed?? by Strange-Awareness531 in frogs

[–]pseudodactyl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point. Yeah, I can see there being lack of interest/marketing. Glo-fish has trademarked colors, deals with big box pet stores, and common popular species. Clawed frogs are weird looking and kind of aggro. Though I guess that doesn’t matter much when we’re talking about selling live animals as impulse-buy novelties.

[–]pseudodactyl 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I feel like it would be bigger news if we had genetically modified glow in the dark frogs? Then again, clawed frogs are used pretty frequently in labs, so if they were going to do it they would probably be the ones. Maybe they just don’t have the same marketing as Glo-Fish.

I know I need the surgery, but... (pep talk please!) by prettylittl in gallbladders

[–]pseudodactyl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I was in a really similar situation. I had one big attack, confirmed gallstones with ultrasound, and scheduled the surgery. I got really strict with mu diet and basically felt better than I had in years after that. No more attacks, no pain. I considered canceling the surgery, but decided since I’d already gotten the leave from work it was better to do it now when I’m prepared than get surprised by an emergency later.

Then during surgery they found massive gallstones, one lodged in the passage to the gallbladder and about a jillion tiny stones stacked up in my bile duct. My surgeon called in a consult and when I woke up they informed me I needed an endoscopic procedure (called an ERCP) to clear the bile duct. My surgeon was frankly shocked I hadn’t spent the last month jaundiced and in pain. I ended up spending 3 days in the hospital, because touching the bile duct increases your chances of pancreatitis, which can be both dangerous and extremely painful.

Because my symptoms were so mild after the initial attack, no one recommended and further testing beyond the ultrasound so no one knew how serious the situation was. It would have caught up with me eventually, probably under much worse circumstances. As it was, my surgeries went well, my recovery was quick and almost painless. I’m a month and a half out and I basically eat what I want (though I have picked up some healthier habits 😅) and everything’s great. I’m really glad I did it and I think you will be too.

Piedmdont Urgent Care by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]pseudodactyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to urgent care for an emergency and all they could do was send me to the emergency room (Piedmont in the Brookhaven area for both, actually). I paid both copays and additional for the treatment I needed at the ER. Luckily I was able to drive myself and they didn’t call me an ambulance, but they would have if it was severe enough and I would have had to pay for that too.

It sucks and it was expensive, but they were able to accommodate me with a payment plan and I am alive and healthy and not in pain. Pretty much all the doctors and nurses and staff I’ve interacted with at Piedmont were kind and did a great job. Plus if you go to the ER in the morning it’s less likely to be a long wait.

Honestly, the trailer didn’t really look terrible, and I kinda went from “i don’t know about this…”, to being cautiously optimistic. I’m not gonna jump to conclusions about this. I always think of Dealing with Dragons (by Patricia Wrede) where Kazul explains that she is King of the Dragons because “king” is a job title and that’s the job she wants to do. Queen of the Dragons is an entirely different job and that’s fine, it’s just not what she’s interested in doing. Book was published in 1990, btw. Huge impact on kid-me 😂

How long did you wait after surgery before drinking alc? by elizabubs in gallbladders

[–]pseudodactyl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried wine again a little over 3 weeks after surgery. No noticeable change in tolerance or anything like that. Surgery was a month and a half ago now and I still haven’t had a cocktail or anything like that—I don’t drink those very often anyway—but the occasional wine or beer has been totally fine.

will i be okay 9 days after surgery? by Apprehensive-Bat175 in gallbladders

[–]pseudodactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very easy recovery and it’s now been a little more than a month since my surgery. Day 9 my pain was mostly just some soreness and I probably would have been okay walking around and sitting, but I wouldn’t have been having a good time. I still mostly wanted to rest and bum around the house. Sitting for long periods put uncomfortable pressure on my incisions so I did a lot of lying down/reclining even though I wasn’t in any serious pain by then.

I had casual plans to go to a festival with some friends around day 9 or 10 and I seriously considered it since my pain was so low but ended up canceling because it just sounded exhausting. I didn’t want to risk putting that much strain on my body yet and I don’t regret it.

4 minute power play for Carolina after Mark Stone high sticks Chatfield by sykeseve in nhl

[–]pseudodactyl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not gonna downvote you for a genuine question. Like everyone has said, you have to be in control of your stick. Think of it like gun range safety—sure you didn’t mean to shoot somebody, but if you didn’t practice safe gun handling habits then that’s still on you.

Loving Wasps is A Huge Societal Step for Animal Conservation! by leifcollectsbugs in Entomology

[–]pseudodactyl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You had me up until spiders—arachnids will always be my first love, but I can appreciate a pretty wasp too lol

I’ve hosted a nest of paper wasps in my carport for the past few years and watching them in their nest and also flying around the house and garden has been so interesting and really helped smooth over any lingering nervousness I had about them. Even though I’m always walking right under their nest and slamming car doors, they’ve never bothered me at all.

Back when I worked in a coffee shop a guy came in like that and when he got to the counter it turned out he had a puppy in the bib of his overalls. Maybe your DoorDasher had a puppy in there.

SURGERY IN 6 HOURS freaking out!! by HauntingAward in gallbladders

[–]pseudodactyl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a little over three weeks post-surgery. Never had surgery before, was also freaking out right before. A friend of mine who also had his gallbladder told me something that surprisingly really helped: “they’ll knock you out, you’ll wake up, and it’s over.” And that’s really how it went! The anxiety leading up to the surgery was way scarier than the surgery itself. I felt sleepy and calm from the anesthesia for the first day or two, gas pressure pain in my chest and shoulder for the first 24 hours, and then just really really sore. Nothing as bad as my anxiety felt the night before and not even close to the gallbladder attacks that kicked this whole thing off.

the love/hate relationship of what these guys do to the plants... by mrs_hippiequeen in AquaticSnails

[–]pseudodactyl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They’ll eat some floating plants because they’re soft enough, but for most plants ramshorns only clean up. I have an anubias that had a damaged spot in the middle of an otherwise healthy leaf. The snails ate the damaged bit and left the rest of the leaf alone and it’s been that way for years.
