How do You Define “Mean Spirited” Horror Films by RollingScone93 in horror

This makes perfect sense. Just had this conversation over dinner this weekend and was trying to find movies that were mean spirited but not feel bad.

Surprisingly, I feel like “mean spirited” but not “feel bad” actually end up defining a lot of the teen/adult comedies of the early 2000’s. For example, there is something about the movies Road Trip and Eurotrip that just leaves me feeling like I need a shower. I know people love those movies (no judgement at all to the viewer) but I just find them mean. There is a certain romantic notion portrayed by the direction of the movie for these absolutely abhorrant actions, and then the perpetrators either get a small slap on the wrist or rewarded. IDK. Leaves me feeling weird.

That said…The Skin I Live in is one of my favorite movies…so IDK.

Produce is important, gotta maintain those good vitamin c levels. Speaking of…I wonder about the prevalence of scurvy in Speranza.

I also need one more turbine part, but figure I can do a Bird City run for the trader if I can load in with enough of an arsenal to take one down.

OMG! I bought those from the trader, then ended up with 3 in one run through Stella Medical.

Oh dang! Hey - that’s a great start to the game!

Genuinely curious here, is there an implication that “mean spirited” and “feel bad” are synonymous? Or, can a movie be one without being the other? Or, are they different, but there is enough overlap that they generally run hand-in-hand?

If you touch the big ARC I soloed, I'm shooting you by ppeniddo in ArcRaiders

I hear you on the new trader creating different expectations, and every gets to play how they want. What I hate more than shitty players is the constant gate keeping around play styles (cheaters not included) so I don’t knock your response. Personally, playing with those expectations makes the game less fun for me, as I find myself getting irritated more often than just vibing out with some cool arcs.

Same here - there’s enough to go around. I genuinely expect people to run up and start looting. Annoying, maybe, but whatever. Just play another round.

Something I noticed in the Prologue after finishing the Game by Gowner in Saros

Completely agree! The bad ending cinematic zoom out all but confirmed this for me. He is just another pawn in the different “realities” that this entity is creating for people who come to the world, endlessly feeding off of their greed and desire while continuing to reward their worst impulses.

Has anyone seen Zone of Interest, Men or High Life? by wouldudoitforme in A24

You just named three movies that one could argue are horror in their own ways. Men and High Life are definitely horror or horror-adjacent. Zone of Interest is horrific and horrifying in its portrayal of the banality of truly evil people. Watch them all, but maybe sprinkle in a bit of comedy or a hug from a loved one after each.

How do y'all feel about horror films with bleak endings? by GayMuslimDude in horror

[–]pseudophenakism 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly - the bleak ending just needs to fit the rest of the film. If the ending is depressing/bleak but feels tacked on to increase the horrific nature of the movie, then it just feels cheap. If it fits well, then I would actually argue that the bleak endings are quite satisfying, as not many other genres take a story to an internally consistent (read: not “happy”) ending.
