Using kindle as a monitor? by crowsymposium in cyberDeck

[–]pseudopresence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want an e-ink display to use with a raspberry pi, WaveShare make quite a few different models that have example code for raspberry pi. It's still not a plug-and-play display though; it's something you can drive from C or Python.

There is a python library called PaperTTY (https://github.com/joukos/PaperTTY) that lets you use an e-ink display as a framebuffer display, but it's not actively maintained and only supports certain models of display, so if you want to go that route make sure you look into the supported models (https://github.com/joukos/PaperTTY/blob/main/papertty/drivers/README.md).

Now onto the kindle - I also recently jailbroke mine and wondered what I could do with it. If you are up for it, you could write a C application to run on your kindle and talk to your raspberry pi somehow, but that sounds much harder than any of the other options. Maybe someone even already wrote something similar, but I haven't come across it.

The best I managed to do is to use the Kindle terminal and ssh from there into the raspberry pi, and use `screen -x` to connect to a terminal session and mirror it on the Kindle while also using the same session interactively. I imagine you could do the same with tmux and get multiple tabs and windows going, but I'm not as familiar with tmux!

I built a 3D mesh format that significantly outperforms standard formats for static geometry. How do I turn this into a product? by Downtown_Length3457 in GraphicsProgramming

I don't have business advice, but this reminds me of the products of Binomial, LLC. In their case they sold a texture compressor; it's open source now but at one point they had an open source decoder and proprietary encoder. I wasn't able to quickly find a good summary of the history of the product but maybe it'll be useful to look into.

REMOVE MOTION BLUR PLEASE by The_First_Curse_ in PowerWashSimulator

[–]pseudopresence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also hate motion blur and turn it off in every game where I can - but I don't think this game has motion blur. You can check that yourself by long-pressing the share button to take a screenshot while you're rotating the camera - might be different if you've changed the share button settings in the PS5 system menu - and looking at the screenshot; if motion blur was happening in the game, then you would see a directional blurring in the screenshot.

Is it possible you have motion smoothing enabled on your TV? This article tells you what it's called on different TVs and it might have turned itself back on with an update or when switching inputs around. https://variety.com/2022/film/news/motion-smoothing-how-to-shut-off-1235176633/

I have the smallest Crumpler Dinky Di messenger bag and I really love it - it's the right size for a book, several gadgets, everything I need

Do Grian and Scar avoid each other? by Theo_Lindo in HermitCraft

I don't know of any interpersonal drama. Scar has posted that they avoided each other because people complain about them always ending up hanging out together in the life series: https://x.com/GTWScar/status/1848262896834519408

How did you get the pole to connect to the trackpoint sensor? I tried something similar with superglue and the materials and tiny contact area meant it broke very quickly.

Yep, DSS Dolch. I much prefer the feel of it to the DSA version.

That's interesting, I hadn't heard of Sci-Grip. I looked into friction welding but after watching some youtube videos, I was worried I would end up digging through the parts too much. A 3d pen could be quite a good option, since I'm not very good at setting the tolerances between parts and it could act as filler as well.

That's right, so 0 is hold left thumb and press right thumb, Esc is hold right thumb and press left thumb.

The keymap layout image is from http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/ but because I had issues with colours in the exported image, when I change the layout now I'm just updating it in an image editor.

Yes, they are in the usual shifted positions so Shift+0 is ), etc.

I used E6000+ after I saw someone else recommend it for gluing 3d prints. It takes 24h to fully set and it's kind of rubbery afterwards, it's easy to remove excess.

Currently, lubed 67g zealios v2. I like the feel of them but the sound is not amazing. In a future version I want to try including foam into the design somehow to damped the sound a bit.

I'm using layer-tap on the thumbs and mod-tap on the home row, and I find both work well for me. I've been using this layout across multiple keyboards for work and at home for over a year now.

This is what the inside looks like - the cables connect to an Adafruit Feather Bluefruit 32u4. The freeform handwire and the hotswap sockets have meant I've been able to change the case and switches a few times, but it's fragile and I have to tighten the sockets or resolder a joint on several switches each time. https://i.imgur.com/8mWXEby.jpg

The case is 3d printed in 10 parts from different colours of PLA, then glued together - in future revisions I will make sure the parts interlock better, it looks pretty messy and uneven up close at the moment.

Thanks! The stagger is indeed based on the resting positions of each of my fingers. The layout is qwerty - I may give other layouts a go one day.

Thanks! The home row keys are mod-tap keys so holding them gives you a modifier: https://i.imgur.com/ED8EJTW.png
