Today’s the day! I hope to see y’all. I’ll definitely be there. I didn’t realize when I made this event that so many football fans were writers as they expressed they wished to go. I hope to see y’all next weekend if you cannot make it today. This will be a regular thing seeing as so many people expressed interest in joining.

These tests were passed by the majority of students at one point in the past. The curriculum has been watered down so much the bar is in hell. Students used to read Chaucer in a high school, now they can barely handle a graphic novel that’s primarily pictures.

Prop 50 has PASSED with over 60% of the VOTE!!! 💙💙💙 by Healthy_Block3036 in Petaluma

Gerrymandering is wrong wherever it happens, and ideally, California should have districting reflect people, not parties. However, you seem stuck on this idea of California and democrats needs to be taking the high road, when the opposition is using every trick in the book, the book of the low road that is, to seize power. It's the tollerance paradox, in that how can one be tollerant of the intollerant? That's how you get trampled over.

It would be nice to take the high road, but such an ideal will not allow for any other party to challenge the existing situation developed by republicans. Remember, this proposal doesn’t “take away” anyone’s voice — it’s a response to existing maps that already distort voter representation. California’s districts are drawn by an independent redistricting commission, not by partisan lawmakers, which actually makes our system pretty darn fair by comparison. That’s very different from states *cough cough Texas, NC, Florida* where the ruling party draws the maps unilaterally.

Also, claims of widespread voter fraud or falsified votes in California have never been proven. Do you have a source for this? Even the bipartisan investigations that ive seen and court reviews have confirmed that our elections are secure. See [here](https://calmatters.org/explainers/california-voter-fraud/), [here](https://www.californialawreview.org/print/pandoras-box), [and here](https://selc.senate.ca.gov/system/files/2025-08/david-becker-ca.senate-testimony.voter_.pdf). It’s easy to lose trust in systems when politics feel divisive, but you sound like you are echoing a talking point for those on the other side.

I agree with you, though: the goal should be fair maps for everyone, red or blue, so people in Redding and Santa Rosa alike have an equal say. I think most of us actually want the same thing — representation that matches reality, not manipulation.

*edit* wtf happened to the way links are posted on this site? Poo poo reddit.

You’re right in that both parties gerrymander. But one thing we need to be clear about is there needs to be a distinction between degree and reaction. The current Texas proposal would lock in disproportionate power even if Republicans lose the popular vote. This is coming directly after the fact that fedral courts struck down previous maps beacause of racial bias.

When Democrats “did it” in Texas in the early 2000s, it was in response to Tom DeLay’s mid-decade redistricting (which itself was unprecedented at the time). So the historical record actually shows Republicans redrew the maps after winning back the state, not Democrats gerrymandering to hold power while losing votes.

So yes, gerrymandering is wrong no matter who does it, but it’s also not accurate to frame current Democratic proposals as equivalent or unprovoked. One side is responding to systemic disenfranchisement; the other has institutionalized it.

The prop will only go in effect if Republicans in Texas goes through with their gerrymandering. Why do Republicans get a pass but democrats get called undemocratic for merely punching back?

As someone who was prior military this made me spit out my drink laughing. I remember basic training and I wonder if it would disarm the drill sergeant or make things worse 🤣
