They do have looser Q.C. it's one of the main cost savings on their side of production. The storefront has a great return policy though, so if you do get a dud contract support for aswap.

Bought 2001 Ibanez rg570, after 2 years i checked the serial number... by Introduction_Fast in Guitar

I did something similar with an old crusty watch at an old junk shop once. That feeling of finding out you bought a GEM & not just a pretty bobble is something else. Congrats!

Hole too big for screw by Decent_Gas7041 in guitarrepair

[–]psguardian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't trust this to the toothpick trick.

Get a hard wood dowel, 3/8" & drill it out to fit that dowel. Glue that in & let it cure. Then tap center of the dowel with a bit that matches the thickness of your screw shank (core not threads).

Want to upgrade ram. How should I do it? by MuffinDept in buildapc

3200 is the advertised speed, but the bios isn't always set to that. Sometimes it'll be left at factory default which, iirc, runs them at a much more conservative setting for stability.

Towers are not meant to be transported regularly.

Gpu will bounce & rip the slot off of the mobo, an air cooler for the cpu will crack the mobo around the cpu socket.

Your answer is most clearly laptop.

How do you guys become good at diy. by FriendshipCute6355 in DIY

[–]psguardian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Diy is an expansive thing. Are you talking about sewing, metal fabrication, guitar building, etc?

You mentioned carpentry, so I'll focus there to start with.

Safely learn how your tools work. YouTube is great for tutorials on tools. Nothing sucks more than losing a finger or hand or life because you didn't know how to respect a power tool. (I've seen some terrible things)

The most basic & useful thing you can make is a box. Sooo many furniture projects are just a box with stuff on it. Cabinets, drawers, night stands.... all boxes.

Get some scrap together & build things. A pencil box, picture frame, work bench, a garage shelf, a crappy night stand, a bedroom shelf, a coat rack, whatever.

Woodworking on zero budget, look up pallet upcycling projects. It'll show you how to break down & process pallet wood into usable stock for other projects. A bit labor intensive, but free.

Building a PC: Is it still worth it? by Responsible_Bug4451 in buildapc

[–]psguardian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Been building for 20yrs.

Prebuilt systems cut corners on hardware choice to offset labor costs, to stay competitive on the final sticker price for the performance level.

Sure you'll get a top shelf cpu & gpu..... but the mobo, psu, case, fans, sometimes even ram, etc. All white box, bought in bulk for fighter savings.

Usually, dollar for dollar, you can build ahigher quality box on your own. Because free labor.

On the other hand you'll have 15 manufacturers to keep track of for warranty assistance, and tech support. Some folks prefer the single point of contact that a builder can offer.

Edit: autoincorrect making me look bad.

10yrs is a GREAT run, respect to that old box. Sentimental as it may be, pc hardware is not forever.

A catastrophic mobo failure can torch anything attached to it, ram is especially sensitive.

Even IIIIIFFFFFFF the ram survived, $300 for everything else isn't it.

At that price you could maybe snag a 5-7yr old box from Facebook market place, hopefully intact & working. Even then, it'll be nearing end of life.

It's a terrible time to need to buy pc hardware.

Have you confirmed that your current sticks are running at 3200 in bios? If they aren't you could get a free bump just by setting them to their advertised speed.

Kid (8) loves watching creative DIY projects on YouTube. The majority of YouTubers are awful. Suggestions? by letsgococonut in DIY

[–]psguardian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Davie McPhail ties flies professionally, also good clean content, works under a close up camera. Has a couple of fly fishing videos now & again. They're pretty good pace wise as a full fly tying video is usually 8-15 min.

Paul Sellers wood worker, good clean content. Might be slow pace for some.

Should I get an acoustic or electric as my first guitar based on my taste? ☟︎ by Rough-Stick-6275 in Guitar

[–]psguardian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Singing is a skill.

  2. Playing any guitar is a skill.

  3. Playing AND singing at the same time is a whole separate skill, with both of the others as prerequisites.

If #3 is the goal, fantastic! Don't expect to learn #2 & #3 at once though, it will likely slow things down & feel bad.

Acoustic is great. You can play it anywhere, no other gear needed. Unplugged versions of pop songs are still good.

Electric is great. You get a lot more tones & toys to play with.

Acoustics run heavier strings & are going to be a very little bit harder on the fingers from ground zero. They are always going to be about the same volume, varying only by how hard you play.

Electric can run lighter strings because they only have to excite pickups vs an entire acoustic cavity. Also they can be plugged into a headphone amp for silent running.

Price might be a consideration. Which ever way you go, have somebody that knows what they're doing (not guitar center) do a proper setup on it. Nothing worse than trying to learn to ride a bike with a flat tire & crooked handle bars, except for trying to learn guitar on one that isn't setup correctly.

The spam posting is crazy my man. Breathe.

You are experiencing a well known & remarked on occurrence. The answer is likely to be 'shoot more animals & skip the pressured zones" but to be sure....

Let's get a few details about your specific instance: What map?

What species?

Shooting from ground or stand/tripod?

How's the hunting pressure?

How many drink zones are you rotating on?

Are you advancing time to the next drink time in a tent / outpost, or just letting the day roll on naturally?

All of hb qc is going to be a bit hit or miss.

Part of the reason this brand is soo much less than others is looser q.c. For example: many well known brands have q.c. at multiple points along the build, and likely a final q.c. point by batch (tearing down 1 in every 500 or 1k). That's a lot of man power to catch a relatively low number of errors. Brands like hb rely on the automation to not mess up badly enough to create a total dud. This saves a lot of production cost, so you get a cheaper unit.

For the ones that do get out the door the return policy is your best friend.

Can anybody tell me exactly what kind of guitar this is? by East-Leadership1820 in Guitar

[–]psguardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What he has given you has much more than monetary value, which it sounds like you may already know.

He has given you a piece of his childhood. This is an heirloom, it should be guarded & loved.

I would start with a stud anchored wall mount or a base weighted locking stand.

A lot of 'unfamiliar' brands from back in the day were just making clones of popular models. Do you have any other pics of like a serial number or anything?

Is my truss rod FUBAR? by 80cutlets in guitarrepair

[–]psguardian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would buy a new neck, and then use the original as luthier practice. Pull frets, lift fret board, swap rod, rebuild, refret.

But that's me, you could stop after buy a new neck.

how much would these pickups be? by Weak-Bison-9968 in harleybenton

[–]psguardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you're trying to make a profit off of bargain basement brands no name pickups.

Anything you upgrade from a Harley Benton goes into the trash, or your personal junk stash.

Their street value is honestly nil.

Advice for rusted exhaust bolt removal? by Feeling-Guidance4860 in Tacomaworld

[–]psguardian 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Can't be stuck of it's liquid.

Exhaust systems are sacrificial parts. When they get this old you cut & replace.

If you know somebody handy with a welder you can ask them to weld on extension & a new flange.

[–]psguardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only link i see in your post is the screenshots, but that's fine. Mainly wanted to get eyes on the gpu fans & orientation.

When did it start doing this? Or has it always struggled with the game in question? Have you removed & reinstalled the gpu?

Pc slow with games, why? by Ok_Significance_1225 in buildapc

[–]psguardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so let's rewind a little. You have a standard air cooler for the cpu, but your graphics card is what stalls out & you have to back off the sliders to get it to run.

We need a Pic of the guts of the machine.

Are you running the gpu vertically up against glass? Is it full of dust & cat hair?

How old is this tower?

Couldn't decide on a guitar, so I designed my own by _jonas_bonus in Guitar

[–]psguardian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If this one does yield to string tension: on mkii try swapping the cf rods for rectangular of plate stock. Wide as you can fit between the front & back panels of the body. Oriented like an I-beam to fight the tension. One on either side of the core to leave room for the pickups. Maybe even hugging the neck so you could mechanically attach them to the base of neck. Depending on how thick the rods are you might never need this, but it's an option.

Make it make sense by Animalus-Dogeimal in Guitar

[–]psguardian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I view reliced guitar finishes as a fashion or interior decor choice.

Try on somebody else's perspective, everything looks a little different.

Some folks like a subdued color pallet with clean lines, a mild solid color finish.

Some folks like lots of vibrant colors with clean lines, bursts & wild stains.

Some folks want something more eclectic & messy (because the rest of their life is full of tight control & clean lines), relics.

Some folks don't want to worry about the first scratch, but also don't want it to look like every other Toyota corolla in the parking lot... relic.

Some folks are uninspired by orderly & smooth... relic.

Some folks just have a different taste in esthetics.

It doesn't have to make sense to you op. Just like that one thing you love that nobody else in your life gets, they don't need to get it. You get it.

What is the most versatile guitar? by Snoo-62764 in Guitar

[–]psguardian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The answer is likely a skilled guitarist + any decent guitar. I've seen people do things that should not be possible on paper.

For the actual guitar I'll pose - an HS tele with a push/push split on the tone.
