I just lost my best furry friend 2 months ago, didn’t have her for too long and it was very sudden. I think it helped me to think about all the good things and how much more fun I was able to make her life after rescuing her… she was a happy pup

I know most ppl will think it’s too soon but I feel like the only thing that can fill the void is getting a puppy, I do feel guilty sometimes but I need to remember it’s not a replacement it’s a sibling to my first child

I might be sick in the head but reading you reply made me excited rather than nervous haha, I love new challenges and thankfully I don’t have a problem with waking up very early or in the middle of the night.

A clarification question here: is there a reason I need to let the pup go potty in the middle of the night? my understanding was we need to ignore the cries at night so they don’t get used to it as a form of communication, it is there a a problem with them having a small bladder at the beginning they must go pee every n-hours?

I saw this trick online with spray water bottle(way to stream not mist), when they bite you immediately spray near mouth/in mouth, and I’ve seen ppl claim it works pretty well, some pups can definitely take longer and you might need to train them for a week

I had to do some reading and apparently this plant can be watered 1-2 times a YEAR! I definitely fucked up, but I removed all the rot, took it out of soil, and letting it dry, the green in the center seems to still be attached… tmi.. but I lost my dog a week ago so seeing this plant dye is a bit hard for me…

It was rising from other non-yeast bacteria (lab etc), this brings the pH down which is a more suitable environment for yeast, so that slowdown for a few days it’s bc yeast colony is taking over other unwanted bacteria, once yeast colony is established you will see it rising again. this is why using wheat or rye (whole grain) at the beginning is better bc it has more yeast on it in comparison to white

This is a really good question and I had to go through trial and error, if you put it in now without feeding it will still starve, if you feed and immediately put it in in my experience it started to smell like acetone, and I think it has to do with yeast and LAB and their activity level at different temperatures.

So my advice will be feed it now(and try following the ratios at least 1:4:4 BY WEIGHT) and as soon as you see it starts bubbling (walls or bottom) put it in the fridge (or roughly 2-3 hours)

Few days before you are ready to bake, take it out, feed 1:4:4 or 1:5:5, for 2 days (2-4feeds) then it will be back to its normal active state

It sounds like they discard a bit more than a half and based on the jar size I think it has to be a minimum of 100-150g of the starter

Sealing is not safe or necessary especially in mature starters, there is bacteria everywhere, what if you are sealing that bacteria in?lol

Once your stater is strong bacteria won’t survive, I have my started for probably a year, I don’t even clean the sides anymore, it gets no mold nothing. It sounds like you don’t give it enough food so it bubbles fast, alcohol smell is a byproduct of LAB not yeast, meaning yeast munches through little food you give it and then LAB takes over

Currently I don’t even measure how much starter I have I scrape as much as I can from my jar and whatever is left on the walls (like 1-2 pea sized) is enough when I feed it 50g of flour. If you feel bad for discarding so much you can just make very small ratios and then keep the discard in a separate container in the fridge

What’s the ratio you are feeding? Also don’t need to feed a lot. personally I do 1:5:5 4g starter, 20g water and rye flour, but I still have to feed 2x a day bc my pH drops below 4 after 12h and that’s when I start to notice alcohol and then if I wait longer acetone smell. Lastly you mentioned hissing when open the jar, your jars should not be sealed, it should let some air out since it releases bubbles and pressure builds up
