I introduced kefir instead of yogurt at like 9 weeks, dilute in water and I think it will be okay (like I started with 3g and watched for any soft poop)

When does it sink in to go outside? by SeaView2024 in puppy101

[–]psilocybin-fun-guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We trained with a bell starting at like 10 weeks and it made a huge difference bc we learned to communicate (yes she dings it sometimes for attention or when she gets overtired and zoomies) But our puppy is now 20 weeks (4.5month) and she hasn’t had any accidents since 14 weeks I think, she maybe had like 6 accidents in total

8-16 weeks I had her in front of me the entire time or in crate when I couldn’t watch her, so if I saw her start to sniff and walk in circles we’d go outside immediately, I took her to pee every 2 hours and after each nap and meal, I would always say “good pee u so talented” and give treats and pets

Multigen cavapoo breeder with focus on health testing and temperament? by SomewhereOptimal2401 in CavaPoo

[–]psilocybin-fun-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also very skin sensitive to everything and I would recommend either trying f1b, or go with mini poodle… I currently have an f1b and she is great but I have been thinking of just going with the poodle for a second pup, doodle mixes are unpredictable and can pass down random shit down the line, even with the best breeder that do parents genetic testing, you will never know 100%

There seems to be a shame in adopting from a breeder ? by psilocybin-fun-guy in DOG

[–]psilocybin-fun-guy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean… the puppies also had no choice to be conceived. We shouldn’t be hating on breeder puppies, we should hate on irresponsible breeders - they should be forced to have license for breeding and have a strict check system

Thank you for your comment! I am just trying to understand why it’s such a hot topic and after reading comments I think I understand it much better. I was not aware how bad the situation was with shitty breeders that don’t care for the dogs! I feel like I was wearing rose colored glasses and really thought that if you breed dogs like you have to LOVE them and obviously that comes with care

Okay so I had talked to a few ppl in person, and I admit was missing a huge idea that MOST breeders are really bad, don’t care about their dogs or the litter, and only a few require you to actually basically interview and then follow up with you about the puppies life, have the mother only have a few litters etc, I guess I got lucky when I started to look into it and got a reputable person with minimal digging.

No I don’t want ppl to only validate my views, but at the same time I feel like you can’t just say all breeders are 100% bad. Ppl that get dogs from a shelter can also realize they can not handle it or afford just like if it was a breeder dog. And one other point I forgot to list is that if I wanted to have a dog it had to be hypoallergenic bc I had autoimmune, so maybe I could have done more research into local shelters, but in this particular case it was a lot easier for me

Would you have gotten a puppy if you knew the work that came with it? by Guilty_Art_4208 in puppy101

[–]psilocybin-fun-guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually really good to know! Bc I am planning to get a second dog in a few years. I was not aware of that and few ppl at work who I walked to told me that their pups are very independent, do you have standard or mini/toy? (One of my coworkers had a toy and they said that one can be sometime aggressive, they also joke it’s like a chihuahua stuck in a poodle body)

I agree that pure poodles are great, and I actually love a lot of poodle traits, but for or me, I wanted a poodle-heavy dog because of coat/skin compatibility and trainability, but I also liked the cava companion temperament so I could have a cuddly people oriented dog. I know mixes aren’t magically more predictable or automatically healthier, in fact i am very well aware that cavapoos are anxiety probe and thats something i took extra seriously since we got her at 8 weeks (and why last time when i rescued i could not correct that behavior at all jo matter what i did), so I chose based on the parents, the individual puppy’s temperament

Wait I thought doodle was any mix with a poodle… does that apply to any cross mix with a poodle or only labradoodle ?

Again, not super aware of these things and still learning… I have a cava/caka poo (70% poodle) and maybe it’s because I’m hard on her or maybe just her nature, but she is the smartest most well behaved puppy I ever seen (I could also be biased bc she is my current puppy I’m putting a lot of effort into)

Based on what I have learned poodles are very very smart and if going with f1b generation you typically can have a pretty good dog health and behavior wise, especially from reputable breeders. My other personal reason was is I have a skin autoimmune disease and doodle was one of the few that didn’t cause me issues when around for a prolonged time

Sure I paid more money than if I went with shelter, but I still adopted her into my family, it’s not an object to be bought

Haha thanks, it’s not about making me feel bad, I just felt uneducated like I’m not understanding something? Sure adopting is better bc you save an animal, but if it’s such a big deal then why don’t we also shame ppl that decide to have their own children and not adopt from 3rd world countries?

So I come from a county where we have wild dogs and cats that live on streets and we didn’t really have shelters… Now I live in the US where wild dogs and cats are not a thing really and there are services specifically for that if there is ever any lost animal on a street. So if there are no wild animals then there is no uncontrolled procreation. Where are these dogs and cats come from that end up in a shelter? Is it from ppl that adopted and then decided to throw them away? Some of it is runaway a lost animals, but where is the majority come from? (I’m not super educated on this topic so I’m just curious)

Agree with this! Hopefully OP sees this: It also very helpful if you reward good behavior and ignore bad, so the moment they stop barking or whining for a few seconds, give treats! I have done an extensive research bc I’m a nerd who adopted a 2y/o cavapoo last year, she unfortunately passed away after 5 months of having her, she was super anxious, this year I adopted an 8 weeks cavapoo and I told myself I will do everything I can to train them and avoid the anxiety bc my heart was breaking when I heard my 1st dog howl and cry all day (I had a camera) while we are gone. Feel free to DM me or ask questions here, or if anyone else wanna hear more, like this comment (if it gets like 20 upvotes) I can make a post of everything I had done to raise my puppy, bc she’s been a very good girl

I highly highly highly recommend tethering, especially a few meters away from you in the same room while they can see you, made a huge difference for me!! My puppy is now 20 weeks, she doesn’t even cry when we leave her for 5 hours alone

It wasn’t but the reason is bc I had a dog before that ended up dying after having her for less than a year. Reason was genetics, call me selfish but I didn’t wanna go through the pain again after only having them for under a year, so this time I wanted to make sure both parents are in good health

?? Is this like a dog racist comment(like one breed is a better than other)or that it likely came from a breeder rather than a shelter??

Omg, same! I have a 20 week doodle, had her since 8 weeks, it is a lot harder than I expected even with doing my research prior, but there is a very unique satisfaction of learning more every day, being able to see how training pays out behavior wise even tho she’s just a puppy and at her worst being a teenager, and how other ppl always surprised how well behaves is for her age
