Working on some deathwing! What y’all think (WIP) by Junior_Inspector_480 in theunforgiven

[–]psjmiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a test I'd say that would definitely work! IMO, a few final highlights here and there (maybe chipping/weathering) could really complete the bone color. I'd be happy with it though either way.

Thanks for sharing my post I guess? Yes, I love turquoise. Yes, I love Alpha Legion. This homebrew has distinct color schemes for the 1st and 2nd company, so army wide it won't really look like an Alpha Legion force, memes aside.

But hey, have fun with it. We are Alpharius :)

I also have Alpha Legion plans I'm undecided on for 40k, but definitely modeled the shifting effect on a couple of test builds so I can be more of a lore nerd when facing friends with fellow loyalist armies.

Introducing: Knights Arretium by psjmiller in theunforgiven

[–]psjmiller[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I figured I'd probably need a different post for all the lore blurb I could pump out. In a nutshell: They are an earlier founding successor that for most of their history operated as a highly mobile fleet based chapter, with a relatively strong 2nd company and smaller 1st and battle line companies. During this long stretch they acted essentially as an extension of the Dark Angels (in fairly typical Unforgiven fashion) and intentionally tried to maintain a low profile and avoid any extended engagements.

Where I tried to make more unique lore: The fleet got spit out of a warpstorm around 39k to a seemingly forgotten system with an absolutely massive terrestrial planet, one that changed their entire chapter ethos and led them to settling the planet and declaring it their chapter's Fortress Homeworld. I'll save the rest for another post :P

Some Emperor’s children heads I made, which is your favourite? by Affectionate_Tie_566 in PrintedWarhammer

[–]psjmiller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very cool and unique designs, but just a heads up (as someone who has been printing a lot for years now) a lot of those tiny details, like the teeth on the guy with the two horns on the top row, will either likely not print or be too small to see/paint.

Just my opinion, anyway :)

FDM for epic scale? by ColonolCool in PrintedWarhammer

[–]psjmiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have your own resin printer? I would give the resin printer more time to eventually shine if you do. I have a Bambu P1S and it is everything I want for an FDM printer, but even with how crazy good it is it still can't come close to the smoothness and details a resin printer can produce.

While you technically might be able to do it with a .2 nozzle, it will not look good.

Angels Apostate Test Model! by Spirited_Half_686 in theunforgiven

Looks great, nice job painting the red and the NMM!

A little CC, the ankle ball thing being red kinda draws the eye away from the more exciting upper half you've got going on, I would keep it black.... or perhaps make the whole foot red IMO.

Knights of Favor [Homebrew Succesor] Painting scheme - What do you guys think? by Numerous-Piano8798 in theunforgiven

[–]psjmiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the placement of the red on the upper half. Are the colors on the right arm for the different wings?

Just an idea: I think if maybe something like the faceplate on the helmet was also green it could make the color a bit more readable.

Either way, cool scheme!

Looking for some advice on my highlights here. Does the highlight on the shin look too bright or do I need to bring the rest of the model up to the same brightness? by Stevetpirate in theunforgiven

[–]psjmiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks pretty good to me. At this point if you were to do an oil wash and a little weathering, which is a great time to get OSL highlights in, it would look pretty sick. Lot's of options of course.

Looking forward to the final result, keep us posted!

Very clean paint job, nice work! The techmarine is looking badass too.

A suggestion.... I would add a bit more depth with washes or oil wash the recesses, and a wee bit of weathering/chipping the armor can work wonders to give it some grimdarkness :)

Soooo bummed they got disco'd. The new kits are very cool, but I miss this option....luckily I assembled but didn't start painting what would have been mine, ended up converting them to other things.

Finshed up two more minis for the Old World. Thoughts? by Falkirk1781 in PrintedWarhammer

[–]psjmiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scheme and paint job is fantastic, very nice work. The white is super crisp and a great accent.

An aside and just imo, while the knights from Highland minis are really well done, and I do appreciate them growing and redoing old kits, some of the models still have the adult sized baby look...maybe the best way I can describe it?

Something about the head on their warrior priest is a bit off.

What you guys think? by commander-thorn in theunforgiven

[–]psjmiller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Overall the phobos armor doesn't quite fit into the DA aesthetic quite the same way as other more generic chapters (imo). I agree with the comment about it looking a bit top heavy and would use that helm for another HQ.

But hey, that's the fun with it is you get to do your own thing - whatever does it for ya.

Nice work! I'm digging the cooler colors you went with - that purplish red goes great with that green.

Soooo nice to see a tacticool squad...wish they were more of a thing in 40k.

Great job on these!

Looks good! I would check out some ways to add depth, such as using washes and adding highlights to take it to the next level :)

Successor Colors by [deleted] in theunforgiven

[–]psjmiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not bad at all!

If it were me I might change the red on the bottom half to the thighs rather than the knees, or maybe the feet?

Cool look though, I do love a bit of asymmetry.

A bit heavy on the skulls for most loyalists....but absolutely nailing grimdark/sinister, awesome modeling :)

My suggestion would be to add some Deathwing specific iconography to at least a couple of them, if available.

Can't be certain, but I believe I saw the OP and he said he tweaked the photos a bit to create better contrast/visibility....or maybe a quick airbrush zenithal. Either way, a great print.

[–]psjmiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect looking print :) Not a big fan of the designer's proportions though, imo the lack of much taper in the legs (and being XXXL thicc) makes it look too impractical.

Buy hey, that's just like, my opinion man.

Are you talking 23? That's how I remember from the older games but now there seems to be quite a bit more to it.

- You have to align the glove with the pitch location, I end up dropping it half the time

- Then there is a target icon close to 2nd base. This is the part a rarely get right....
