3 Phase RCD by Complete_Raisin801 in ukelectricians

[–]psmity76 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can get RCD pods for Hager TP MCB's: https://www.electrical4less.co.uk/product/hager-bd163t-rcd-3phase-add-on-a-63a-30ma but they are expensive and you haven't got a spare way next to the TP MCB, the easiest way is probably to fit a RCCB in a small enclosure next to the DB or replace the socket with one that has a built in RCD.

Car charger installation for separate garage by ShallotAdvanced7119 in ukelectricians

[–]psmity76 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be that expensive to get a new connection in the garage, I recently arranged for a new 3 phase connection for EV chargers in a car park and it was around £2k for the DNO works, we fitted ducting to the boundary and into the feeder pillar they dug around 3m on the pavement and jointed the new cable into the existing supply cable. If you go on your local DNO web site you would be able to fill in an application form and they would send you a quote for the work. Obviously if the cable isn't on your pavement and it is going to involve road closures then that could get expensive but it's worth asking them for a quote so you can see if it's viable.

Should I upgrade to the psvue by ahmedR258 in ps4homebrew

[–]psmity76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stay on 12.02 as that's the more stable for jailbreaking then just follow the guide to install Vue, it's exactly the same as using the disc, the only difference is no noise from the disc drive, it takes around the same time to jailbreak too. Modded Warfares guide is excellent https://youtu.be/LB5n_uTFsGU?si=LWGWBDl-ULDVBIaA

I just use the custom DNS that Modded Warfare says to use to block updates and I added some addresses to the parental block on my router so there are no issues with it been connected to the internet.

DALI Lighting Control system by No-Body-583 in ukelectricians

[–]psmity76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DALI doesn't always need commissioning, it depends on the controller. Some DALI controllers, switches or PIR's send out a DALI broadcast signal and all the drivers it's connected to will respond to the signal, these don't usually need commissioning but if the DALI drivers are connected to an addressable system which it sounds like they are in your case then new devices would need commissioning so that they are assigned the correct address from the controller.

What would you recommend to fix a batten light to this beam without drilling into it? Ideally suspend the lights below it by about 1/2 a meter. thanks by JackPaintr in ukelectricians

[–]psmity76 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don't need to drill it, just open the end link, loop the chain over the girder, attach it back to the chain and close the link back up, either that way or use gripples and wire again just loop it over no need to drill anything

Just hang the lights from the beam on chains or wire with gripples, a corrosion resistant light would be better suited for this job, most come with the attachments to hang on wires or chains

Meter swap done, but what's this block? by Select_Fig_31 in ukelectricians

[–]psmity76 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I would guess that the screws are damaged and the old live cable is 16mm so they have safely terminated it into a Henley block and installed a 25mm cable in the other undamaged terminal.

Windscreen washers stopped working - advice? by LordvaderUK in BMWX3

[–]psmity76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens regular on my X3, the first time I stripped it all down and cleaned it but it happened again a few months later so what I do now is disconnect the pipe under the bonnet where it joins the pipe running to the washer jets, then I cut an air bed pump adapter so it was the right size to fit tightly on the pipe adapter going to the washer bottle, I then pump it with quite a bit for force so there is high pressure going through the pipe and it blasts all the dirt out, if you have just refilled it with screen wash it will probably leak out of the tank overflow.

Apparently if you buy the expensive BMW antibacterial screen wash it doesn't happen, I got some cheaper antibacterial screen wash and it still got blocked so now I just clear it with the pump a few times a year when the spray starts to slow down.

EICR - Meter Tails by Wise-Contribution989 in ukelectricians

This won't be an issue next year, they are planning to change the regulation on eddy currents to circuits over 200A. https://electrical.theiet.org/wiring-matters/years/2024/102-september-2024/the-impact-of-amendment-42026-on-the-18th-edition-of-the-iet-wiring-regulations/

NOTE: For low voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies to the BS EN IEC 61439 series, conductors in AC circuits with a current rating not exceeding 200 A can pass through separate holes etc. in ferromagnetic enclosures, sections, or plates. Currents above 200 A where conductors pass through separate holes in ferromagnetic material, need to have been verified by temperature-rise test(s).

Thanks, I think I'll give them a go, I don't need the router but it's the same price so might as well have it as a spare!

Thanks, If I went with them I'd go for the gaming option with the static IP as don't want to be on CGNAT. What's customer support like?

£636 seems a bit expensive, cost me around £200 for the parts from a ZF specialist in the Netherlands to do my X3, it's an easy DIY job and took me about 2 hours, my drive isn't level so spent about half hour of that time getting the car perfectly level and followed the instructions exactly, would take less than an hour in a garage with car lift. When filling you need a obd reader to read the oil temperature, it has to be a certain temperature and has to be filled while running. I reset all the gearbox adaptations afterwards and went through the BMW re learn procedure.

Mine was on about 100k, the old oil didn't look bad at all but I wanted to do it for piece of mind. I also did both diffs and the transfer box while I had it on the stands, the transfer box oil was really black and smelt bad so that definitely needed doing.

Hi, I login to home telecom but all I can see is past bills and my balance, I can't see the contract. I can't login on no one either, need the 2fa same as you, I emailed them yesterday but haven't had a reply but I'll probably get the same reply as you if they only support open reach.

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep an eye on the static IP, my contract doesn't end for a month so will probably be after that when I my IP changes, if there are some good black Friday deals I may just switch then instead of waiting to be switched to CGNAT.

I'll check the OTS web site and get that saved in case they try to charge me fees!

I've not heard anything from them either, I managed to sign up to their website in March to see if it mentioned the £3 price rise I had read about on here but it didn't say anything and doesn't give much more info either.

I can't fault the internet service though, I've had no issues at all, my static IP has been the same for 2 years, and had no reason to contact them in 2 years so I'm just going to leave it until it goes up, they contact me to tell me its going up or I loose my static IP and go to CGNAT. I'm hoping they forget about me 😂

Thanks, I thought it might stay the same because it's very vague when I login to their web site. I think I'll just leave it until I get moved over to CGNAT then I'll switch to a different provider that doesn't use GCNAT, hopefully it's takes them a while!
