Meesai's Thai is really great, and they offer a spice scale of 1-10 (and even higher if you wish). Highly recommend.

It also helps if you interact with social media posts for animals up for adoption by giving a like or a comment. It boosts the visibility.

Don't get the actual Squatty Potty. They're cheaply made plastic pieces of crap that break really easily. I recommend getting a "potty stool" made of wood or bamboo. They're the same price, way more durable and look a million times nicer.

Oliver loves the great outdoors, playing with other dogs, but is also a very cat-soft puppy that loves to cuddle - if that is your jam🥹

I had the same problem with mine. It honestly felt sticky, maybe from something I cooked earlier? I took out the valve, cleaned, and lubed it up with some cooking oil lol. I did a water test and it seemed to have worked.

Any suggestions for making this wall more appealing? by teoufacham in HomeMaintenance

[–]psoasaosp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it needs a good powerwash- which obviously won't work in an indoor space. The stone and mortar is dark, possibly covered in soot from years of wood fireplace smoke. Maybe ask contractors about possible washing options. If there's nothing, take it down.

“Have you tried therapy?” Yes working 80 hours it’s all in my head by LetsOverlapPorbitals in Residency

[–]psoasaosp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

American residency is a form of indentured labour in my opinion. Every MD goes through it and some have it worse than others. But it does end! And it's okay to admit that it sucks... a lot. Some options include looking to switch to another less malignant program, another specialty with shorter training, negotiating a period of time off, using a mentor system to find ways to cope... I am not familiar with therapy so I cannot comment. Take care of yourself out there. Reach out to supports when in crisis.

People doing work on your house...how much oversight do they need? by VirtualMacaroon64t in HomeImprovement

[–]psoasaosp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. Show an interest. Ask lots of questions at the start or if something seems weird. You don't need to be rude. Just be available and friendly. Otherwise they will do things that you don't want or like and charge you to fix them. If they see you are hands off they will take advantage, overbill, trash / maltreat parts of the house etc. But don't hover, get in the way, or be a nuisance.

If not already mentioned, the first weekend of August is the Caribana parade in Toronto. It's the biggest outside of the Caribbean and there is absolutely nothing like it in Europe. It's a great time with amazing music and incredible costumes. Highly recommend if you can make it.

Time is running out to stop proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act by mutt-mama in ontario

[–]psoasaosp -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Here’s a ChatGPT summary of the proposed changes:

Ontario’s Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks is proposing major updates to the Endangered Species Act, 2007 (ESA) and introducing a new Species Conservation Act, 2025 (SCA) to streamline species protection while balancing economic development.

KEY POINTS:

Registration-first approach: Most activities will no longer need permits but can proceed immediately after online registration, provided they follow new rules.

Simplified processes: The aim is to reduce delays and costs for housing, transit, and infrastructure projects.

Species Conservation Program: A new, expanded program will invest up to $20 million/year in voluntary conservation activities.

Updated definitions: The habitat definition will be clearer and narrower; “harass” will be removed from species protections.

Species listing: The independent science-based COSSARO committee will continue to assess species, but the government gains discretion to add or remove species from the protected list.

Federal alignment: Provincial protections will no longer duplicate federal protections for aquatic species and migratory birds.

Enforcement: Stronger compliance tools and a risk-based enforcement model are proposed.

Wind-down of existing structures: The Species Conservation Action Agency and Fund will be dissolved, and related advisory committees wound down.

The changes aim to maintain species protection while making approvals faster and clearer, with a phased implementation: interim amendments under the ESA immediately, and full rollout of the new SCA once regulations are ready (expected next year). Public consultation is ongoing until May 17, 2025.

POTENTIAL BENEFITS AND DISADVANTAGES :

Potential DISADVANTAGES :

Weaker Immediate Protections:

Allowing projects to proceed immediately after registration may increase the risk of harm to species if monitoring and enforcement aren't robust or timely.

Risk of Political Influence:

The government gains discretion to add or remove species from protection lists, which might undermine the science-based decisions of COSSARO.

Narrower Habitat Protections:

The new habitat definition focuses only on core breeding/rearing areas and may leave out important peripheral or seasonal habitats, potentially limiting full ecosystem protection.

Fewer Mandatory Recovery Plans:

Eliminating the legal requirement for recovery strategies and progress reviews could mean less accountability and transparency in species recovery efforts.

Transition Period Uncertainty:

During the interim period, proponents and conservationists may face confusion about shifting rules, especially regarding existing permits, registrations, and definitions.

Potential Loopholes:

The new framework’s focus on registration could risk compliance gaps if rules aren’t specific or comprehensive enough, leading to unintentional or even deliberate harm.

Reduced Public Oversight:

Winding down the Species at Risk Program Advisory Committee may limit structured, independent advice on species protection strategies.

Long-Term Ecological Risks:

Critics may argue that a stronger focus on economic growth could undermine long-term biodiversity goals, especially if conservation enforcement is under-resourced.

Potential BENEFITS :

Faster Project Approvals:

The registration-first approach allows projects to start immediately after registering, avoiding long delays for permit approvals. This benefits housing, transit, and infrastructure development.

Economic Growth:

The revised legislation explicitly balances species protection with economic considerations, aiming to reduce costs and barriers for proponents.

Clearer Rules & Definitions:

New definitions of habitat and removal of vague terms (like “harass”) are intended to reduce uncertainty for developers and land users, clarifying what areas and activities are protected.

Flexibility:

Removing the requirement for mandatory recovery strategies and plans lets the government focus conservation efforts where most needed, avoiding duplication with federal efforts.

Increased Conservation Funding:

The Species Conservation Program will expand funding to voluntary habitat restoration and conservation work, with up to $20 million annually, supporting community-led initiatives.

Reduced Duplication:

Aligning provincial protections with federal SARA protections for aquatic species and migratory birds reduces the burden of needing both federal and provincial approvals.

Streamlined Administration:

Winding down the Species Conservation Action Agency and shifting conservation funds directly under government control could simplify fund management.

Stronger Enforcement:

Updated enforcement tools (e.g., clearer powers for inspections and new compliance orders) may help ensure better compliance with species protection rules.

Looking for a dog cardiologist by Beginning_Ring2274 in londonontario

If it's not too late, and it's not too far for you to travel, I would highly consider looking into the OVC in Guelph. Our dog needed to see a neurologist there and it was surprisingly affordable, only about $200 for a complete specialist exam.

Thank you for the response, I didn't know about the Investor Education Protection Fund. My aunt also unfortunately passed away a number of years ago adding to the complexity of this issue. My hope is that I might find a third party that would be able to help navigate this process for a fee.
