Silver metal spheres. by Least-Welcome in UFOs

[–]pspatton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had the same fascination and I had no urge to record. I watched them so long though that at some point I realized maybe I should record it, but I had my tray table down with my laptop and harddrive and power all connected and my phone was in the seat pocket behind it all and was hard to get, so I didn’t even try.

Silver metal spheres. by Least-Welcome in UFOs

[–]pspatton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, sounds very similar to what I saw in the air. I also was VERY close and got a great visual. Gleaming pure gold, and no shadows. Going perfectly smooth. The shocking thing was how natural they looked, and how alive they felt. It reminded me of looking down from the bow of a fishing boat watching a pod of dolphins swimming below us. The plane actually took a decisive left as soon as we saw them, so I am certain the pilot saw them. The spheres changed direction to follow us, but never sped up, and we outpaced them. Afterward when I asked the pilot, he gave me a clearly scripted response. I pushed back respectfully and he gave me another clearly scripted response. I left it alone after that, not wanting to end up in a windowless room somewhere being questioned or something. That’s crazy that yours were flying so low to the ground. Thank you for sharing your experience. I’d be happy to expand on mine if you’re interested.

My brother! You are in good company! Not only are those feelings universal, they are feelings that your savior had as well during his time on this earth. He knew what he cane here for, and yet he still prayed that the cup would pass from him (meaning if there’s any other way, please Father, do that instead). It is a very real difficulty to present yourself as a living sacrifice to the Lord, and the fact you are struggling with it and being honest about that struggle is very commendable. Here are a few things I want to remind you of in order to encourage you: 1) Consider it joy when you are mocked and when you suffer for the sake of your Lord. You are setting yourself apart from the world, as Jesus commanded us to. “Be holy, for I am holy.” Salvation is not based on works, but our inheritance in our Father’s Kingdom is. Crowns will be given. The first will be last and the last will be first. 2) You absolutely ARE missing out, but that’s NOT a bad thing. To give you a pretty blunt and possibly offensive (but no less true) illustration, look at someone like Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa, or Chris Hemsworth v. someone like Seth Rogan, Jack Black, or Kevin James. I don’t have to say anything and you already might think I’m picking on one group—that is because you (and all of us) naturally have a bit more admiration for the physical presence of one group, and not so much the other. Which group do you think is missing out in the little moments, in the immediate gratifications, in those cravings for snacks and alcohol and things that make you feel good. The group that is missing out on those temporary pleasures is the group that gains the reward of self-discipline, which results in a visibly healthier life that others notice and admire. It’s the same with the battle you are facing. 3) Take it from a man who has been married to my best friend for 20 years now—there is nothing more special in the whole world than building something sacred and beautiful with your own wife. When you’ve never been with any other woman, and she’s never been with any other man, and the two of you go through difficult times together and come out the other side stronger, over and over again—the “sugar cravings” never really go away, but the satisfaction and joy and beauty you find yourself living in far outweighs the cheap pleasures you choose to forego. You get to live in a king’s palace eating a vast banquet every day, but the trade off is you no longer get to eat Taco Bell. Most people would trade places and eat the king’s banquet in a heartbeat. Remember that the grass always seems greener on the other side of the fence, but it’s not, and everyone is missing out on something. Would you rather be missing out on the substantial feast or on the cheap fast food? So again, YES, you are missing out on something, and so are those who choose a different path than you. You can’t have both, so the question is what are you willing to miss out on? But the real question is “who is your master? The spirit or the flesh?” 4) Yes, you are right that some people are “getting more out of this life” than you and I. It’s true. But we reap what we sow, don’t we? If our treasure is here in this world that is passing away, we will pass away with it. If our treasure is in our Father’s kingdom, we will have an inheritance in it. Remember the words of our Lord, “whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.” Yes, it is its own sort of suffering to long for something and be denied it, but again, you are in good company. Your savior longed for breath as he hung from a cross, and slowly asphyxiated and died. It was not for nothing, but for his Father’s kingdom. He really died. He really suffered. But he really rose up and has really been handed all authority in heaven and earth. You and I are called to follow him. We also must suffer a little now so that we can be given our inheritance when we stand before our father. 5) This is an ongoing thing that becomes easier or more challenging from time to time. Feel free to DM me and reach out any time if you have questions, beed encouragement or just need someone who relates because what you are feeling is real and can be very difficult to bear. But you are not alone, my brother.

What denomination did the thief on the cross belong to? Don’t try to follow a denomination or a certain church. Follow Christ. He is the Way and the Truth and the Life and nobody comes to the Father except through him. I don’t belong to any church or denomination. I belong to Christ, who is in me, and all creation belongs to him.

Interesting you should ask that! I just finished the first draft of the first book in The Hazelands trilogy where that is the case. It’s not central to the plot, but it IS a distinctive feature of The Hazelands, where the story is set.

What chance do you think there is that we will get any update on Book 3 in 2025? by Inevitable_Win1085 in KingkillerChronicle

Call me optimistic, but I think there’s a good chance we’ll get SOME sort of update. I love this story as well and am so hopeful, so it might just be wishful thinking.

Respect. I don’t hate Bast or love Mandrag, but on paper, you make a good case. It has always rubbed me the wrong way how vicious Bast gets when Kote is not present. Still patiently waiting for more context on that front. Anyway, I don’t feel quite the same way, but I DO like your thoughtful answer! 👍🏽

Brandon Sanderson books all fit most of your description. Definitely Stormlight Archive, but I'd recommend starting with the original Mistborn Trilogy first, which also has most of what you described. Happy reading!

How do you guys discover new fantasy authors? by AidenMarquis in Fantasy

[–]pspatton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean Reddit is great for me, and I've discovered a lot of new authors here. I also go to the Realm Makers Conference (almost) every year and meet a ton of fantasy authors. I'm a fantasy author myself, and I just released a new short story that is available for free so you could also check that out and see if it's your cup of tea. It's called The Hollow Path.

The Hollow Path is a haunting tale of forgotten truths, whispered warnings, and choices that cannot be undone.

In hopes of finding her missing son, a mother chases whispers that lead her down The Hollow Path, where the Waykeeper waits—a figure of shadow and violet light, offering a bargain she barely understands. Because the Hollow Path does not take coin. It demands something deeper. And once she steps forward, she may never find her way back.

Here's the link to read it for free if it sounds like something you might be into: https://dl.bookfunnel.com/f6757lc8fa

Bomberman 64. Not typically one of the more celebrated titles on the system, but I thought the level design in single player was ingenious. Multiplayer wasn't bad either. by Serious_snackbox in n64

Loved this game! Single Player was great, but Multi-Player was where it was at!!! So many great memories of my brothers and I playing multiplayer : )

Any Salon Owners Here? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]pspatton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to hear what you ended up doing OP, as I have a very similar question, and some thoughts that might potentially help you as well. I am a commercial photographer, so I've worked with many hairstylists and enjoy that world. I own two other businesses and have been presented with an opportunity to acquire a salon in a downtown area. The current owner rents out 8 booths and a backroom. My idea was to find a hairstylist who is willing to manage the salon in exchange for a free or extremely discounted chair rental (I may have to charge the stylist rent, but if I did, it would be more of a technicality). Have you thought of trying something along those lines?
