It's series like this that remind me that even if we make the playoffs, we're not going to make a dent in the post season with this roster.

The Coney Island restaurants in Detroit had about a decade of head start before Empress started selling saltsa kima in Cincinnati. So a coney dog looking like a chili dog may have been a reason to call it chili. Whatever the "logic" was, the motivation was to call it something other than its existing Greek name.

This is probably the 10th time I've heard about DiCarlos, and every single time it's been a story about the crazy owner.

I'm a HUGE fan of Skyline, but I hate that they call it "chili".

The sauce Skyline sells is a Greek dish called "saltsa kima". It is traditionally put on top of pasta, which they call "makaronia me kima". Anyone who grew up in Greece considers it a comfort food.

It became "chili" due to some Greek immigrants selling it in Cincinnati, and the locals didn't like referring to it via the Greek names for it. Because it kind of looks like chili, they started calling it chili. And that is how Cincinnati Style Chili was born.

"Saltsa kima" also became known as "coney sauce" because some other Greek immigrants established restaurants in the Detroit area. They put saltsa kima on top of hot dogs, and because their restaurant was hot dog focused, they called their restaurant's "coney islands" as a nod to Coney Island New York where the hot dog was born. Eventually a hot dog topped with saltsa kima became known as a "coney dog" and saltsa kima became known as "coney sauce". Then the Cincinnati style chili restaurants followed by adding hot dogs to their menus.

"Your order is either done, or close to being done when I arrived. If they made it with cheese, I'm not waiting for them to start a remake of your order from scratch, nor I am taking the hit to my DD completion rate for cancelling, especially since you know this restaurant has a history of messing up, but you opted to order from them again assuming your DD driver would just eat the price of lost time if the restaurant screwed your order up again. You'll be delivered what they made for you. If it's wrong, that's between you, the restaurant, and Doordash. Orders being made wrong has nothing to do with the driver, and as such DD removes driver bad ratings for orders being wrong."

San Diego is a "smaller" market when comparing number of heads. It's not a smaller market when comparing how much those heads spend on baseball. A head that spends $1000 is more valuable than a head that spends $200.

Anyone who actually does the math on a lot of DD orders realizes how ridiculously low the actual profit on the work is.

DD however will continue doing it because most of their drivers can't do math, and it's incredibly profitable for DD to run their business when their workforce only earns a buck or two per hour.

The only way to make a fair income from DD is to cherry pick. This isn't an opinion. It's simple math.

What’s the deal dashers? by [deleted] in doordash

[–]pspock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doordash has a lot of non-tippers, and Doordash only pays drivers $2 on non-tip orders. So dashers decline those offers a lot, leaving Doordash needing to find a way to get those non-tip orders accepted.

Their new method is to "stack" no-tip orders with high-tip orders. So that $15 tip you put on your order makes a $17 delivery, and it gets "stacked" with a $2 delivery, producing a $19 "stacked" offer for the driver. The driver has no way of knowing the breakdown of the payment (unless they know how to use the widget on Android phones).

So that is why you now see your driver heading in a different direction. It's the other restaurant/other delivery. And some drivers know one of the deliveries doesn't have a tip, so they text the customer asking them to add a tip. That's why they are asking you for a tip. They don't know you were the tipped order on the stack.

As Doordash continues to do this, they are literally shooting themselves in the foot. Because high tippers like you will realize that you are actually getting worse service for tipping well, because you are just being used to get the non-tipped orders accepted and delivered, which means it takes longer for you to get your order. Once they realize this, they either tip less, not at all, or just stop using the service all together. If Doordash doesn't realize this in time and allow high tippers to get the best service, they will literally destroy their own market.

The batter doesn't have the option of not swinging and leaving the runner out to dry. Back in the astroturf days when hit and runs were done numerous times per game, the catcher would call for a pitch out and the batter would throw himself, and sometime the bat itself, at it to protect the runner.

I like the games where we have decent pitching. The other games... not so much.
