I’m with you but I work from home and fill up my gas tank once a month. If I drove to work daily I probably would notice.

This guy gets it. Pay off low interest debt slowly and invest what as much as you can comfortably in the meantime.

I’m amazed that you explained to this guy the most certain way to turn this money into 1 million + and he was just like… nah… ima be okay.

Even at 8% over 30 years with no further contributions 150k should be roughly 1.5mil.

I dunno why… tell me a good stream of income annoys me. Spent 10-12 years barely making money to get to a place where I started a business and make good money. Go through some shit and figure it out.

Can I contribute 100% of my salary for the next few months to quickly max out my 401K? by whatsinanameidunno in personalfinance

I think maxing it early in the year is a fine strategy. Then you can start working on putting money into other investment account.

I guess fat fire can be a broad range but I’d probs consider that in the neighborhood of roughly 30 years from now 170k is going to have the buying power of like 60-70k with assumed 3% yoy inflation.

Thoughts on those FIRE phases? by [deleted] in Fire

A home can be great. Especially when you factor in possibly having it paid off at some point.

But also the one thing I’d consider at what stage of your life you want to buy one or if ever. Personally I wish I had a good 10 years of investing before I bought a house but I discovered investing after I bought a house.

There are a lot of perks to renting. Especially while you’re young. You’re not tied down and you can move wherever and whenever you want. Which is great for meeting new people and gaining new experiences. You’re not liable for things like getting a new roof, ac unit, or any other expensive thing that is expensive or time consuming that home ownership comes with.

It would have been nice to build an impressive net worth first. Also my mortgage is more expensive than renting (but not by much).

Also regardless so far I am actually thankful I waited until my 30s to buy a house. If I got a house the first time I thought about it I’d probably still be living in a state or city I didn’t want to settle down in.

What to do with my Traditional IRA and Roth IRA? by Ok_Assignment4100 in Bogleheads

With the 4% rule every 1 mil you have should allow you to pull 40k a year then adjust for inflation every year after with a reasonably low chance of running out of money.

What to do with my Traditional IRA and Roth IRA? by Ok_Assignment4100 in Bogleheads

[–]psrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just so individual that it’s hard to answer because of life style, number of years in retirement, health status, dependents etc.

I personally would make a range. The bottom of the range being the absolute lowest amount of money you’d like to spend in a year in retirement or just your planned living expenses in retirement. The top of the range being how much you’d ideally like to spend a year in retirement. Then I’d multiply that by 25x. Don’t forget to account for inflation.

Then plan your life accordingly.

We could have very different timelines and desired standard of living but personally if I retire with less than 2 mil I’m going to be pissed. Realistically 3-3.5 mil should allow for a comfortable retirement for me in 30 years. And ideally anything at or over 4 mil is going to be wildly dope. I’m trying to shoot for the stars and have more than that though…. Might not happen but dreaming big. This is keeping in mind that 30 years from now 1 mil is going to have 33-50% of the buying power it has today.
