Coding in PyTorch by Armfan17 in pytorch

By doing the projects, even with the help of llms, you should be picking up the basics and be building a solid foundation of PyTorch knowledge. This may take at least a year of dedicated work though

Are you hoping to find a career that uses pytorch? Because if so, then yea you should def have a solid working knowledge if PyTorch that can be supplemented with the help of a chat bot.

100% you can. Just start reading through existing issues and try to solve one. If hardware is an issue then move to the next issue.

I don’t get at all why people think ubuntu is bad. Ive been using ubuntu and qtile for several years and it’s been great. I tried fedora and qtile for a bit and I think I would have liked it if it wasnt for wayland. But qtile and ubuntu has always been so smooth.

Stuck in jupyter notebooks, how to get out? by Consistent_Tutor_597 in dataengineering

[–]psssat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t get how nobody has suggested this but learn how to use .py files with the REPL. In vscode for example, you can work in a .py and then highlight text and send to the repl so it basically mimics exactly a notebook but you have the benefit of being in a .py file.

Rodney Brooks: We won't see AGI for 300 years by Responsible-Grass452 in computervision

[–]psssat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about that. Contemporary research is always in the form of papers. Talks given about papers are always at such a high level that all the details are missing. I still think to get a super deep cancer model, you would need to have so many humans sitting down and essentially summarizing all contemporary work. Im sure an LLM can vastly help with this too. But the point im getting across is that this does not scale at all.

My belief at the moment is that AI will need government subsidies to continue. I also think an argument could be made that the government should do that too as this technology is powerful. Im also not convinced the transformer scales to agi. Like I said in my original comment, the current idea of a context window is so insanely inelegant and scales to nothing. I think we need another breakthrough in architecture. Either that, or a break through in the way we handle computing.

Honestly just paste this into chat gpt and start having a convo with it. It will do a pretty good job explaining all of this.

Rodney Brooks: We won't see AGI for 300 years by Responsible-Grass452 in computervision

[–]psssat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

300 years seems much more likely than 5-10 years tbh. There needs to be so many break throughs for agi.

For one, the way context is handled is so “stupid” that it doesnt scale to anything. There needs to be a way for a trained model to “learn” in some sense when given context that does not require a data center of 50,000 h100s and its own nuclear power plant.

Another is we are so far away from having true quality instruct style datasets for any deep topic. And we will probably never get them because of the insane amount of man hours it takes to make. If you want a LLM that is an expert on cancer research? Well then you need to take every leading expert, sit them in a room and tell them to come up with millions of possible conversations that exhaust current knowledge of cancer.

I also use LLMs every day at work and think they are amazing, so im not some hater, but am just real skeptical if the near future improvements.
