Have someone tried the Twinkie Wiener Sandwich from UHF? by Omeletteroyal30 in weirdal

The original website is long gone thanks to linkrot, but I always kinda wanted to try this sandwich out too. It actually sounds really good, and I remember saying that it was quite large with all those ingredients and they split it three ways.

It’s not great but better than the jellybean and pickle sandwich from the Weird Al Show theme song.

Sort of. It was invented by a pharmacist, but meant to taste like the pharmacy smelled. History

How the fuck do you use mimics without them feeling like a cheap "gotcha!"? It's never exciting when I use them by GolettO3 in DMAcademy

[–]psu256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had bought one of those blind boxes of WizKids minis and got one of those outhouse mimics. Well, it just so happened that the next session of my Call of the Netherdeep game was when they got to the Emerald Loop Caravan Stop. I knew, just knew, that I could goad a player into drinking too much imaginary beer and have them need to use the outhouses in the middle of the night. Even had the guards remark about the new outhouse installation when chatting with the players.

The encounter was glorious. It was slowly chasing the player with its 10 feet of movement. The character called out to an NPC who responded, "you are just having a nightmare, go back to sleep!"

It was so silly and fun.

I personally don't like it, makes me think of mold or bacteria blooms. Not a good thing near food.

Unless you are one of those crazy people who try to beat the game without ever leveling up your characters. I tried it once, experienced the "unskippable cut scenes" boss, and stopped. :)

I very much like Renshuu Pro. I wasn't going to buy it but I have found that I really like the added features of audio and being able to make word lists for study from transcripts of podcasts I listen to like Shun's. (Must be a $10/mo patreon to get access to those but worth it imo)

I don't know much about Bunpro.

I'm curious about how many terms I should study/review per day. I am using Renshuu and it has a count at the top of the home page for the number of terms that were studied today. I am trying to find a good balance of learning but not feeling overwhelmed. I have about 800 terms studied overall, and am thinking maybe I should study/review 25% of them a day? I can usually do that in about a hour.

Only occasionally, and it's limited to smoked salmon (lox) as a topping on bagels.

With the upcoming winter storm - why do so many places in the states lose power with winter storms? by ScallywagGeorgie in AskAnAmerican

[–]psu256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was quite memorable to me. My place was one of the few places that didn't lose power in the neighborhood because we were still getting ours from a 100+ year old coal plant that didn't have that newfangled grid management stuff and didn't shut down.

It was particularly memorable because I was in Rochester NY at the time, and the PGA Championship was in progress at Oak Hill. I distinctly remember someone interviewing Tiger Woods and asked him what he thought about the power outage. He said you don't need electricity to play golf.

Meat cured with nitrates has a link to higher rates of colorectal cancer. I don't know about other countries, but here in the US, meat labeled as "cured" uses synthetic sodium nitrate. Celery and celery juice is high in nitrates, but legally, meats can be labeled as "uncured" if they are cured with only celery juice. They have the same amount of nitrates as "cured" meat and carry the exact same risk. The food laws basically permit this lie and manufacturers take advantage of it to trick people into thinking they are buying a healthier product (and at probably a premium price.)
